Elton John's music has had a great impact on my life. I was 15 when the sequel to this album 'Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy' came out. At that time Elton John's albums were greeted with a tingle down the back from 'Don't Shoot' to 'Yellow Brick Road', 'Caribou' and to 'Captain Fantastic'. Over the years the anticipation of a new album was met by disappointment. Of course every album has its gems, but no album quite matched the impact of the earlier classics. There have been more recent false dawns, with 'Sleeping With The Past','Songs From the West Coast' and 'Peachtree Road'. Each good in their own way, but never matched the classics. With this new album the tingle is back. It is the best Elton John album I have heard since the 70's. The Bridge of course first grabs your attention, but soon you are taken in by the craft of song and lyric of the other tracks. Postcards from Richard Nixon, Wouldn't Have It Any Other Way, Tinderbox, And The House Fell Down, I Must Have Lost It In The Wind, and The Captain And The Kid, all have got my interst from a few listening. This album brings back my childhood. Its an excellent excellent album. Well done EJ!
