Late to the Party (Again)

Once again I'm "late to the party". Story of my life folks! I imagine I'll be making that blog title again when the inevitable PS3 purchase arrives.

I finally decided to take the jump into the HD realm and purchased a 32" Vizio LCD HDTV about a week and a half ago.

setup

To house this new piece of hardware I had to get a new piece of furniture. Which was fine with me, seeing how bulky the old entertainment center was--I much prefer the subtley of the current setup.

Notable mentions in the above picture include my mammoth center channel from a couple seasons back. I was planning to work on building a stand to raise the TV up a bit the weekend I got it, but my father kindly and sneakily manufactured me a wooden platform while I was at work to ease the view a bit.

Also the HD-DVD player that I got for $40 at Fry's. I've always wanted a LaserDisc player, so now I have the next-gen equivalent of one. Also, the movies are all -$10 here so I might stock up on a few. Right now I really only have a few Kubrick films and some other essentials.

Aaaand I don't have the PS2s hooked up right now because I'm not sure if I want them sitting on top of the unit. I haven't decided on that yet either.

Since I stacked a lot of my games on top of my old setup, I had to get some new storage as well.

games!

I was able to fit most of the "current" stuff on these twins but am lacking PSP, GBA and movie storage still. Along with all the older stuff. I imagine that will have to come later down the line, but for now this works out nicely. I decided to go alphabetically. I've never organized anything really before, so it's nice to know where everything is.

I went on hermit mode the other week to dial in the TV and think I've got all my settings worked out for the most part. I love it. Love love love. I am currently in the process of playing Lost Odyssey (which I also absolutely love) before I head back through my 360 collection to replay all of it.

Now to bask in the soft glow of High Definition with my buddy Kaim and his pals...

P.S. I actually dusted for the first time in about 14 years because I have everything so exposed now. I'm nervous that I won't be able to keep it up -- but I have to, this junk depends on me!

Man I have three HD DVD things, if you wanted one, you could have just asked, and would have gotten one for free I found one at Gamestop for 20 dollars, one at bestbuy for 25 dollars, and one at a yard sale in Colorado for 12 dollars

freaking awesome I say. HD-DVD players the most awesome way to get a blue laser diode for all your wacked out trippy blue laser needs. I really need to get one before they all disappear.

Beautiful, you should never have another huge mess in your room again, EVER!

And lemme take one of the Lunars off your hands.

Lost Odyssey is a derivative game. I just can't see how people can get into it.

Welcome to the "I have all 3 system" club.

So I'm guessing you only play the Wii60 now? Unless you play other consoles elsewhere.

That setup is pretty sweet anyway, I feel some jealousy coming along, haa....

very neat and orderly.

Nice set-up is right. Every time I walk into Best Buy, I stare at the PS3. I want it. I need it. But I can't afford it.... The purchase is also inevitable for me, but I gotta get like, a job first.

Don't feel so bad, I was also "late to the party" and I've only had my new HDTV for a little over a month. You've certainly 1uped me in the sound department. All I'm using is my TVs speakers. Mainly because I live in an apartment and if I have a huge 5.1 surround sound setup the neighbors b*tch at me about the noise. I used to have one but it died out (some crappy manufacturer) and I had people knocking on the walls when I'd watch Lord of the Rings.

Anyway, welcome to HD! lol I've watched a few Blu-rays on my setup (which look AMAZING) and I've found that the PS3 looks much better then the 360 since my launch system doesn't have an HDMI port like the PS3 does (shame on Microsoft!)

I alphabetize ALL my stuff, always. I'm anal about it too. I see you have the Arc the Lad collection on PS1 and is that Lunar and Lunar 2? I used to have all those but sold them several years ago when I needed the money. I regret the decision now and I rarely get rid of games anymore.

Well have fun with that TV, I'm going to try and catch up on all the E3 coverage. I've only had time to watch the three press conferences. Damn you work!! I seriously should have taken this whole week off. I think I'm taking TGS week off for sure.

wow...that's a pretty big collection

Dan - Heh, I don't make it a habit of asking people if they have spare HD-DVD players.

NirdBerd - Right now it's mostly the 360 since I have a bunch of stuff I've played in standard that I want to revisit in HD. I have both my PS2s on standby currently, ready to be hooked up at a moments notice though. I'm currently looking for an alternate setup for the older stuff though.

Derek - I got my sound system before HDTVs were so common (also when they were ultra expensive). I'm thankful that I've at least got to experience that aspect thus far at least -- but that is one advantage of living in a house, definitely.

Bummer about those Lunars, but alphabetical is the way to go for me now. It's so nice.

Don't tell anyone but we've been watching the feed while we work this week. Our production has not been good.

Oh my.

I watched the pressers at work, but I've just had too much work to do the last couple days to really pay attention to the live show. I have the stream going at home though. I plan to go over a ton of coverage this weekend and check out all the stuff I've missed. I am keeping up on all the podcasts though (GiantBomb, Cheapassgamer, 1UP, etc.). I'll try and do an E3 impressions blog too, but lately I've felt there is no need to blog anymore. I feel like no one gives a sh*t, especially after only getting a few responses from people on my last couple posts.

I love your game setup. I still need to get an HDTV myself, but the price is (obviously) way too steep for someone without a job such as myself.
