Afternoon people! Global warming doesn't seem to be affecting the UK at the minute... ![]()
This week has really seen an eventful start to the New Year! Last Saturday my sister had her baby which has really changed things up seeing as she still lives at home. She headed off to the hospital about 3am which woke me up. I was then woken up twice more before half 8 - my sister has no idea how hard my morning was as getting back to sleep is impossible.
I do love to tease her often as well. I had a stomach ache the other day and told her she'd never have felt pain like it! Haha. He's quite a big boy at 8lbs and has enough hair to gel it into something stylish. I'm really not a baby person and I find it very hard to get excited about it. Give me a couple of years when he'll have grown up a bit and isn't so dependent and I'll be much happier. So far I've not been woken up by him yet but I'm told once he grows up a bit he'll get a lot louder so if he could just skip a couple of years I'd be happy all round! ![]()
The snow this week has really played havoc with the whole of the UK - reaching 45cm where my friend's girlfriend lives. It's also hitting lows of -21 degrees Celsius in places which is a tad chilly! Where I work has had literally no snow and the sun is shining as I write this. When I left home this morning it was throwing it down with snow but after the first 10-15 minutes of driving, we were back to the normal speed limit and the roads were clear. Knowing my luck it'll snow over the weekend when I'm not working! College was on yesterday which must be one of the few still open in the UK but we still didn't do anything. The lesson in the morning was supposed to be outdoors but that was called off, one of the teachers couldn't get it so that was another two lessons to cross off, and then when we were at lunch I saw a Twitter post from one of the others in my group saying we'd been sent home so we didn't learn anything!
In gaming, after a few days off from Modern Warfare 2, I felt so out of practice after a solid week on it! The first time I went back to it I thought that I wasn't enjoying it as much as before now that my buzz for it wasn't there a break from it. I ended up going back on it yesterday and did really well so that was all I needed! I really want to play a new game though so as I was on level 48 I thought I'll hit level 50 and stop there. I hit level 50 but don't actually think I'll stop! I'm starting to get much better at it now but I think that my early poor efforts have ruined my chances of ever having decent stats. There's a lot of challenges I still have to complete although most of them I probably won't bother with. I'd like to get all of the perk challenges complete and after this weekend, should have half of them fully finished off. Weapon wise, I'm not on the M16 which is far more accurate and has a high damage count so I'm seeing things pick up on the kill front!
As for TV, I've watched:
Brothers & Sisters 'A Bone to Pick'. I don't really like how it's just being so depressing this season. Nothing fun is happening and it's all based around Kitty's illness which I guess they need to focus on but the main plus point for the show was that there are so many great characters which all got their own stories.
Better Off Ted 'It's Nothing Business, It's Just Personal' and 'The Great Repression'. I can't believe they're just rushing the show despite the fact it's far better than a lot of other comedies on TV. Things as simple as the red coat trick to get them all working harder, and then when they were talking about humans replacing robots, just showed how brilliantly simple it can and they've managed to avoid having any annoying characters as well! It's better than new shows Accidentally On Purpose and Modern Family so there's no reason why it should be cancelled.
The Secret Life of the American Teenager 'You Don't Know What You've Got'. I'd forgotten just how completely complicated the lives of people on this show are! It's had some good and bad phases throughout it's run but it seems to be back on a high after the winter break. It was funny, interesting, and always dramatic.
Legend of the Seeker 'Season 2 episodes 1-6'. I had concerns after the main bad guy was killed off at the end of season one, that season two would lack focus but that's definitely not the case. If anything it's got better than last season and with a new female cast member, there's even more to love about this season!
Hustle 'Season One'. Now that I'm beginning to run out of new US shows to watch that won't be cancelled, but don't have a 100+ episodes to catch up on, I'm turning to UK shows that have done well. Being editor for Hustle made it easy to pick it as the first to watch. I've had all the episodes for a while now but have never got round to watching them. It's a shame I didn't start it earlier as the new series began this week and it would've been nice to watch it as it airs. With only six episodes per season, the first season seemed to be over before it started. I don't think it's quite as good as Leverage but it's not far off. It's weird but getting used to British accents in a show is hard even for me as all my shows generally come from the US, and even people like Tim Roth don't sound typically British.
Modern Family 'Season 1 episodes 1-10'. Whilst I haven't quite found it as truly awesome as everyone seems to be making out, it's a solid addition to the comedy line up for this season. I hate the way it's shot in with the home video look but as it's actually quite funny I can deal with that.
Bones 'Season One'. Only one season in and we're pretty much agreed in our house that's it's quickly become one of our favourite shows. There are a few more boring episodes than I'd normally expect from a show like this but there's a lot to love. There's a great cast who work well together, the obvious love story that will never (seemingly) happen and interesting cases based around an interesting subject.
Good - Better Off Ted 'It's Nothing Business, It's Just Personal' and 'The Great Repression', The Secret Life of the American Teenager 'You Don't Know What You've Got'.
Indifferent - Family Guy 'Big Man on Hippocampus', Scrubs 'Our White Coats'.
Bad - Brothers & Sisters 'A Bone to Pick'.
My album for the day is One Life Stand by Hot Chip.
My shuffle song for the day is 'Stop and Stare' by OneRepublic.
My thing to ponder for today is: Why do we say something is out of whack? What is a whack?
Well on Friday night the 6th series of Peep Show ended. It seems to have been a really short 6weeks although I think that shows that I enjoyed it a lot! It ended with Sophie in labour so now I'm on tenterhooks for the next series when Mark will be a Dad. Lots of comic potential there!
But now I'm left without very much to watch! Can anyone reccomend me something?
well... a lot has changed since the last time I posted.
I'm now no longer going to do forensics, yes i do still find it hugely interesting, but i love working in care SO much...
so...
I'm starting Learning Disability Nurse training in 2 weeks! OMG it's all happened so quickly, I hadn't even applied 2 months ago and now I'm starting in less than a fortnight!
I've handed in my notice at work and everything, I'm staying on for bank shifts, as there are ALWAYS shifts needing covered, and with all the training I've done that's so specific to the unit i work in, it'd be silly not to, but it's all be a bit of a whirlwind this past month!
I am so excited, I'm really happy about this decision - I'm going to be going to Glasgow Caledonian... it's the only Uni this side of scotland that offers the learning disabilities branch, it's fortunate that although it is a good 1.5hrs on the bus to get there, it is just ONE bus, and thankfully a lot of the L/D placements are quite close to me, and not all up in Glasgow!
??? Why? Oh, I can picture him quite well as the educated professorish guy (already had one role like that), and his stature is big enough to intimidate, cause in combination with his ambivalent character this will def. be the reason his team will fear him at some point...yes, they're headed there! He is a good enough actor to make a rage believable.
Although nowadays it's quite common for a movie star to do television, Fishburne is too big a name and he will also persue other projects besides CSI very soon I believe. This can't be a satisfying solution TPTB are looking for
I simply can't reconcile myself to that possible choice either.
Bummer, David Morse would remind one too much of Grissom - not only in appearance but in character also - and is therefore out of the picture ![]()
I'd rather have someone not that very famous, who will be up for surprises and grows with that role.
But all this discussion is null and void anyway - we aren't allowed to choose, only the ratings will tell if PTB made the right decision (even by shooing away the old audience and attracting new viewers)
Keep watching or drop it like a hot potato is surely based on how the show captivated you. You like the genre or you like the combination of characters.
So it's either the blue or the red pill
Nooooooo!!!!!!

I believe it's time for another blog thingie ![]()
On Monday I got a call from my recruitment agent and she had the greatest news ever
2 weeks ago I applied for a position at RegTel (a telecommunications regulator in Ireland), went for 2 interviews which were successful enough I guess
so yeah, got the job so I'm all happy now. Starting on Monday woohoohooo! The hours are 9am-5pm with an hour for lunch, the money's excellent too, 28 500 euro (approx $45 000) per annum which is pretty good for somebody just starting off
Wimbledon
The tournament of the year started on Monday so I can't peel my eyes off the TV
Ernests Gulbis is my guy and what a guy he is!!!
*le sigh* I'm in love.
Yesterday Ernests beat American John Isner 7-5 7-5 6-7(3-7) 7-6(8-6) in the first round and tomorrow he is facing the No.2 seeded Rafael Nadal. To be honest I though Isner and Gulbis were going to kill each other with their serves. These 2 players are very alike, amazing and extremely powerful serve, one ace after another... So now I'm really looking forward to tomorrow's match against Nadal.
Go, Ernie!!!
Somebody wipe the drool off my face...

A tremendous story --- sharp & vastly entertaining, oftern poetic, never sentinmental. No sermonizing, no cuteness, no verbosity, but lots of action, humor and empathy.
