GTAIV and MGS4

Wow... I can't believe the ps3 is the only console to have two games rated 10 by Gamespot. No other console has ever recieved that honor, and leads me to wonder if maybe its just easier to get a 10 now or if games really are just getting better.

At any rate, I've never been a fan of the GTA series; I always found them to be pretty boring and they recycle their gameplay so its not as if the experience is new. The graphics are good, but not mind blowing... I guess they are just what you'd expect.

I am looking forward to (eventually) getting MGS4, assuming I can find a copy. There really aren't a lot of games like the MGS series and I find them to be a fresh and rewarding whenever I play them.

Yup... thats all... guess I'll start looking at the Wii boards again now that there is nothing to spoil

Edit: Well I have all the characters and stages unlocked now... I geuss I can go to school again... Anyone else find it weird that JigglyPuff was one of the last characters to be unlocked? It was the first one in the last two games...

Rambo ~ Crimson permanently imprinted on my retinas!

Rambo

So today in Canada (or at least where I am) it is Family Day, it a chance for families to have a day off work/school and do things together in a family like way. As I understand it, in the US it is President's Day which is just an excuse to have another sale.

Anyways, for the long weekend my father, brother and I decided that we would watch all the Rambo movies on DVD and then go see the new Rambo movie (check here for title confusion). So throughout the weekend we watched First Blood, Rambo: First Blood Part 2 and Rambo III, and if I had to pick one word to describe the movies it would be: EXPLOSIONS!!!

After watching those movies (which are quite excellent if you happen not to be squeamish) I was ready for the next Sylvester Stallone masterpiece, but what I got was something I had not entirely expected...

The new movie features the same actor and formula that made the previous movies great but this movie shocked me in new ways that I wasn't prepared for. I have never in my entire movie going career witnessed such macabre and gore as I have today. In previous installments I had finished watching with a sense that everything was yellow due to the sheer fascinating number of explosions, but this time around all I can remember is crimson. Up until this point I thought that Kill Bill was the most horrifyingly bloody and gory movie I've ever seen, but now Rambo holds that honor in my mind. There were times during that movie when I actually feared for my life. It really gave a feeling that I was in the middle of a war, and I swear I thought some of the next bullets would be coming my way.

Overall I was impressed with the movie and Stallone on the whole. Starring in the last three movies, and writing Rambo III, I'm sure that he had a clear idea of where he wanted to go with this movie, and I think he accomplished it. I give this movie a solid 8.5 (which I have heard is against critic majority) because although this movie was horrifying in many ways, it was purely enjoyable. I remember smiling when seeing a soldiers head blown clean off and then feeling like I was going to hell, but I was incredibly entertained at least.

One note of trivia, when Rambo is having his flashbacks from the previous movies while he is sleeping, the last one is the alternate ending of the first movie, First Blood, wherein he kills himself.

Final word: Its a great movie if you hunger for blood or are just a fan of the Rambo movies, but don't take a girl you actually want to see again to it.

5 Free Blu-Rays... finally

5 Free Blu-Rays

So today I got my 5 free Blu-Ray movies, and even though they may not be the best movies, they were definitely free. I got the Canadian deal when they started the promotion during the summer, and I'm actually quite surprised I got them.

Of course I'm glad I got them, no one wants to rip up their ps3 box for no good reason, but honestly 6 months later? Who the hell would expect that? On the order form it says something like "Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery" but I guess that was a typo and they really ment 6-8 months!
