Don't pull me down this is where I belong! (PS3)

Down and not even out yet! Lets stop talking so much hate on the PS3 till it actually comes out 'eh?

http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=66506

This is an article that shows the good and the bad of what Sony has going for them, but if their numbers are correct....400,000 360's in Japan? 1.3 million in europe? That's pretty sorry numbers. 3.3 I think in U.S.A....looks like Sony might win anyways.....b/c to be number one  you have to have........games! No matter what you say, Gears of War ain't gonna save no console, I don't care if their is a woman attached to the damn thing. Though one could argue, for the price of the PS3 it BETTER come with a woman haha. Also, Micro dropped alot of multi-plat games for x-box. Seems like once the 360 came out, they don't care about x-box owners. At least Sony had ps1 games made for like 3 years after ps2 was released. Bully is no longer a title b/c they don't care about BC since most of the people who own a x-box now have 360. Only problem I see with 360 right now is that there are no exclusives....most of them are PC ports with lag, at least for what I have seen with Oblivion and Full Auto, it got pretty choppy.....I digress. Good Luck to all three, I'm sure 360 will get some better games since it's still new, and ps3 will def see it's fair share of probs once out.....comment and commiserate my compadres

Short blog I promise (small Ninty rant)

Ok, so I have talked enough about what I like about Sony and what I hate, but now it's Nintendo's turn. I played the old school one back in 89, but lets face it, it was the only console on the market so it's hard for the damn thing to be a flop now isn't it? Even when Sega came out they were giving them a run for their money!!! I'm just so tired of hearing Nintendo fans saying Microsoft and Sony......especially Sony have done nothing for gaming. They make it sound like the ps2 was a flop and the gamecube beat everybody out. I've heard fanboys saying that Sony is running on the same 5 games, funny I was thinking the same thing about Nintendo. Mario anybody? Do a search on mario in your GS search bar see how many games come up, at least 100......and Sony milks? Everybody is looking forward to Mario, and Zelda and Metroid and Pokemon.....yea those are some orignal titles coming out. I like these games but quit making it seem like Nintendo can do no wrong!!!!

The thing I want to complain about is this "Innovative" crap I keep hearing about, ( Don't even get me started on the wii 60). What exactly makes them "innovative"??. I swear all the 12 year old Nintendo fanboys don't even know what the word means but they say it like a rallying cry! Is it the wii-mote? Nope, been done before........people try and say that it's the games but I've never seen anything truly innovative in the actual games. They are fun b/c they make them so simple yet somehow complex that it keeps people coming back for more. I see nothing innovative about a guy stomping on mushrooms, what is it they have changed.........you will look inside yourself and realize NOTHING!!!!! Nintendo, Sony and MIcrosoft have stolen EVERYTHING from xerox or Atari so I would like to make a request to have the fanboys shut the bloody hell up about Sony stealing, or Nintendo being too kiddy and whatever it is people say about Microsoft. You know what would be truly innovative? If I could find a way to go through the screen and introduce these staunch fanboys with the business end of my shoe! I could go on about fanboys but I decided to do something less painful like stick my penis in an oven.

Video Games breed violence (fact or myth)

(sorry it's so long, this is not a very good blog anyway, but thanks for your comments anyway)

Ok, so this is a topic that's long overdue and if anything has already been talked about too much. Lets face it, everybody on GS knows who Jack Thompson is, he is our worst enemy b/c he says the craziest things about video games and the fact that they breed violence. I have a few points I'd like to make on the reason why we will never have censored video games ever.

Besides the fact that it's un-constitutional to censor things, why does everything that's bad in this world seem to spawn from video games in the mind of this man? Could it be b/c he has never played video games?? Lets take a game like GTA, a game that seems to be the bane of JT's existance. He says that you are rewarded for killing cops and banging hookers and once your done you can beat them up to take your money back. He fails to realize that you can drive ambulences and fire trucks to save people's lives. I'm not going to go on and say GTA is a good game and you COULD be a good guy but rewarded?? Cmon, when you do anything bad the cops come after you! SoiIt's not "encouraged" per-se. Now GTA is a game that sells hundreds of millions of copies, buy why? Don't get me wrong first off, I own all of them, and enjoy them immensly but why do we like this game so much? Is it the killing? The beating up of random people? Honestly no its not. It's the fact that the city is a living breathing world at your disposal. You can do anything from flying in an airplane, to swimming for treasure, riding taxis around to fire fighting. You can sneak into houses and steal, or go spray painting. I love to find the highest building and free fall off it. The interaction between the player and the computer is getting better to, it just feels like your own little escape. I sometimes just like to go exploring b/c it's just so amazing all that there really is to see and do. It's a game, that does not require you to win, and that's the appeal.

JT fails to see this, he just see's you can run-a-muck and kill anybody you want and for some reason that makes you want to kill people. Nevermind the fact that we can just watch the news and see how many thousands of REAL people being slaughtered daily in Iraq. What about soft-porn on skinemax?? Does that make me wanna go bang some hookers? What about R movies?? Do those movies make me want to become James Bond or Batman and try what they do. Bottom line is, I don't play video games b/c I like killing people, I would never want to hurt somebody in my entire life, let alone punch them. That's why GTA is so funny, it's funny to go up to some random old guy and give him a face full of fist and run away, but you couldn't pay me to do that in RL.

What this blog is coming down to, are the bad seeds and the mis-representation that comes with them. Just b/c they play GTA does not mean that's what made them shoot anybody. Maybe it's the fact that the WOULD shoot somebody is WHY they play games like GTA. JT needs to understand that hundreds of millions of people have played this game and only a handfull of cases have cropped up concerning GTA and most are bogus. Like the one guy who said that he shot the policemen b/c he did it in GTA, his lawyer told him to say that, I can gurantee you that. It's called an "insanity" plea. If you find a scapegoat on the reason why you became this way, you go to a mental ward and not jail, or the chair.

"Nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you're a hit man or a video gamer," Thompson told the paper.

A straight quote from JT itself. How dare he put hitman and video gamers in the same category! Who does this guy think he is. The only thing I think video games do is decensitize you to un-realistic violence. When I was 5 I think, I walked into an arcade and saw Sub-Zero rip off Raidens head, I will never forget that, b/c I freaked out. I was so young and it scared me so bad. Now it's funny and comical, but two things I'd like to point out. One, I was too young to see that kind of stuff, and therefore was freaked out (only later to become a MK fiend!). Two, now when I see anything violent I like it BUT and this is a big BUT, when I saw on the news somebody being shot in the face and blood squirting out of the guys head I freaked out like when I was five years old again. It disgusted me, it freaked me out, I can't even describe how I felt........just nauseated me. Even my friend who has been to jail for grand theft auto (ironically, and for the record he actually hates these game lol) felt disgusted. What I'm trying to get at is, if your mind is messed up to begin with, b/c it takes a certain kind of person to want to actually hurt somebody, it really does, some kind of thing that isn't ticking right in your head that is bred from birth with abuse, or you were born with it, then your going to be drawn to darker themes. Your games will all be about killing people, your music will be dark in nature, your attitude will coincide with these feelings.

Bottom line: Grand Theft Auto did not create the killer, the killer played Grand Theft Auto and this is a legend that needs to be quashed by our politicians. Funny how the government thinks they know what we can and cannot handle, I for one am tired of this censorship. We can't even see naked chicks in commercials like other countries do yet we are supposed to be the most free. I love how a country can be so free, yet have the most censorship I have ever seen. Luckily JT is old, and so when he dies, lets hope that this video game beaurocracy goes with it.

The PSP formerly known as trash

When I say formerly I mean it!!! I nabbed a psp the.day.it.came.out! I bought it for Twisted Metal, which was the same reason why I had my girlfriend buy me a ps2 when it first came out (twisted metal black). But once the initial shock wore off that I owned this sleek and sexy device, I found I never played with it, or picked it up. It's been collecting dust inside it's fancy little brief case I bought for it. Over 300 dollars I spent on this thing including games, and even the movie playing feature wore off (as it did with everybody I later realized). Alot of it was due to the fact that no good games had come out for it really, the UMD's were kinda expensive, and I already own an I-pod. "Why does Sony always have to have some kind of swiss-army knife to their products" I would soon ask myself. If they had just made a gaming machine it would have stomped and then proceeded to pee on the competition. With all the options it does (not to mention memory cards you have to buy) I thought I would soon sell it. But then something amazing happened.......in a word I call it GAMES GAMES AND MORE GAMES!!!!

Grand Theft Auto came out, then syphon filter. Daxter is amazing!! Anybody seen burnout on this bad boy? Socom rocks my socks! Monster Hunter is adventerous!! I love the mega man games! Metal gear acid 1 and 2!! Dragon ball! Now we have a great game called Field Commander which i will be picking up soon enough. The games that will be coming out in this coming year that will also be must have's are: Crisis Core FF7, Metal Gear Solid:portable ops, GTA:vice city stories (hell yea!), Tekken dark resurrection, WTF (read up on this crazy game!) Tenchu time of assassins and Killzone Liberation I'm stoked, completely floored by this.

Recently I have been wanting a DS lite, which I might still get. Four months ago I would have said "im gonna get a DS lite and use my psp to strap onto my feet so I can skate around Paul Bunyans giant skillit so I can cook his flap-jacks". Now I'm thinking the PSP will suffice my gaming appetite. I work and go to school full time, and since I'm becoming a doctor it's hard to find gaming time But with handhelds, especially the psp b/c you are not sacrificing graphics or gameplay, it's easier to do these days then boot up the ol' console. You have to commit long hours to play consoles, there really are no pick up and have quick fun games(unless you have played Gungrave and if you have'nt you have not truly lived!). WIth PSP or Ds you can put that sucker in sleep mode so if you have 10 minutes just flip the switch and your right back into the action. This is not a "hate on the DS" blog or anything to all you Nintys, it's just that I'm proud that the PSP finally has something to write home about. I will prolly get DS, in fact I think my sis bought it for my 22 birthday which I will hold onto till ds lite comes out. It's just nice (at least for the time being) it looks like I didn't buy another gamegear. My guess is, nobody produced games for it till they saw it was a hit (just because DS is stomping it, does'nt mean it's not a hit) and now they are pouring in like a Tsunami. Hooray for PSP!

Ps3 is the new Black (an ode to all the fools sipping on the haterade)

Here is the thing about ps3, it's a great machine. When you're on the top you are always hated. I've been reading a few peoples blogs recently and the amount of bashing I have seen on the ps3 in terms of price and lack of innovation is ridiculous. Here are some interesting points as followed about this beloved system that will grace our eyes. First off the controller. It was not stolen from Nintendo, though I do feel they tacked it on their b/c of them, if that makes sense.

Its not a copy Sony had this controller idea since 1999!!!!!!

PS3 controller patented in 1999

Patent number: JP11099284
Publication date: 1999-04-13
Inventor: KOBAYASHI HIROAKI; YORIZUMI MINEO
Applicant: SONY CORP
Classification:
- international: G06F3/033; G06F3/033; (IPC1-7): A63F9/22; G06F3/033

Abstract of JP11099284
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To instruct an operation by the movement of a small controller that is close to the movement of a character by making the controller movable, detecting its movement and outputting a signal, and switch-recognizing the direction of the movement on the basis of the outputted signal. SOLUTION: The controller detects an angular speed by a detection section provided in a connecting section that connects the right and left operating sections of a controller unit 82. For example, rotation in the direction of rolling in relation to the right and left operating buttons 55, 56 of the left operating section is detected as an angular speed in the direction of rotation in the XY plane by the detection section 70 with the Z axis as the central axis. The detection section 70 is comprised of a movement detection section 71 made up of an angular speed sensor 72 and an amplifier 73, and a direction detection section 74 made up of movement direction recognition switches 79, 80. Therefore, movement can be instructed by the movement of the controller without operating the operating buttons 55, 56, etc.

There is the patent. Read, weep, cry me a river, build a dam, and get the hell over it. As for the price. Sony was smart about giving us the price right now. Think about it. It gives us six months to save up about 700 bucks. Even if you work a six dollar an hour job and put in a good 40 a week. That's 240 dollars. Most people get paid bi-weekly so that's 480 bucks in 2 weeks of work. Is ps3 really that expensive now?? I mean cmon. Not to mention but Microsoft's press conference at E3 stated that they want to be as culturally significant as the I-pod, yet people pay 399 to 400 bucks for these things, and what does it do?? It just plays music!! Has that stopped sales? In a word...NO. they have sold about 33 million of those bad boys, and they are glitchy as hell. I should know, I've owned a few, and still use them. So 400 bucks for a music player, does 600 really sound that bad??

Another thing about the price, cmon guys its because it comes with a blu-ray player! For 200 extra bucks you get a powerful gaming machine and a blu-ray drive. What did microsoft do? That's right, they decided they are going to wait and see which one becomes the more dominant, so they admitted they will use blu-ray if everybody buys blu-ray, which sounds like a cop out and a lack of faith in HD-dvd. I have read up on HD-dvd, it's only sold about 7500 world wide!! So here is what I would like to point out for ps3. Do they have their work cut our for them? Yes they do!!! But if people decide to buy ps3 by the millions that's alot of blu-ray's sold, which means blu-ray just may become the more dominat format. Sony is responsible for spurring DVD sales b/c of it's ps2, and I see no reason why ps3 won't do the same thing with blu-ray. Fanboys of other consoles wanna bash sony for saying that it's to hard to program for the ps3, but developers said the same thing about the ps2!!! IF you guys can remember. Everybody said ps2 would fail b/c it's to expensive to make games, and to hard to program. Sound familiar huh? The problem is, you guys just want to hate SOny b/c they are on top and you can't admit they have great games. It's not even like ps2 had great graphics, just great third party support. From an article i read in gamespot developers have said that the games we see now are not even using 1/5 of the cell processing power, and the games are hard to program because there are more things the ps3 can handle at one given time. It's not like the 360 is easier and more powerful, it's just that ps3 can do more so it's tedious as hell to create the caliber of games Sony expects developers to do, which could be a good or bad thing. Ultimately the fate of Sony is in our hands whether we choose to buy, or don't buy. But bottom line is, it's expensive b/c it already has the drive installed whereas Microsoft will have another add on to buy down the road, in the end you will have to pay about as much as the ps3 did, except for we decided to go ahead and get the whole purchase out of the way, instead of waiting for yet another add-on. You have to hand it to Sony they DO know what they are doing. Right now all three company's are about equal, don't bash a system b/c the 599 version will come with everything you will need untill the NEXT next-gen jump while everybody else has to wait for the drive add on sometime in the future. The only gamble sony is now taking is if blu-ray fails, but once ps3 sells a few million at launch, I don't see how it will.

I saw Silent Hill the movie and...........

**No Spoilers** It sucked! Siskel and Ebert gave it two thumbs up the butt. Now let me explain before you get your panties in a wad. The beginning was awesome. Up to the part where she passes out, they stayed true to the game and made some very scary scenes. They had the big triangle guy in there too, which was very scary ( especially this one scene) but overall the plot failed to deliver and honestly, the cop Sibil ruined the movie. I'm not trying to sound like one of those guys that does not get scared at scary movies cuz I am! This movie made me laugh at alot of the parts, and the audience was laughing as well! The best parts were the creatures but those were few and far between, this movie had so much potential, I am just so let down. The sirens were perfect but the ending lacked, I dont know.......maybe i should not have gone to see it stoned and the ladies I brought with me were giggling the whole time and ruined it, and I had to sit in the very back row all the way to the right. But I still stand by what I said, watch at your own risk........I just hope they make a second one but better this time.

The music was fantastic, you'll remember alot of the tunes from the games! I especially love the ending song when the credits roll, I have that on my I-pod it's so good! Like I said before, the movie was not the worst but too much hammy diolouge ruined the scary exp you know what I mean? They whould have kept the film close to silent where it's just this lady trying to find her kid, and back out again. You'll see what I mean, hope I helped.

PSP VS the DS (the showdown)

Ok, I have to get this off my chest once and for all. It's been bothering me over and over again, and even though not alot of people read my blogs, it'll make me feel better knowing I got if out in the open for people to read at their own will.

PSP, sexy, hard not to love, multi-functional, customizable. The games are fast paced, look fantastic (see burnout). BUT, expensive, battery life sucks, games are also expensive LONG load times, EXPENSIVE!

DS, dual screen, fun innovative games that have stood the test of time, great use of the touch screen, great battery life, very affordable. Not alot of BUTS either, except it is a kids machine, while trying to appeal to the "general maket" does not look high tech, but it is durable too.

My thing is, I really do like both, but recently I have been upset with the PSP. If you read my earlier post about sony has *enis envy, you'll know what i meant about he psp. there are many flaws to that machine, but it's hard not to love. But instead of really trying to gear toward a market they just thought lets make a handheld that has better graphics than the gameboy, that'll show them. But they were wrong, b/c they went against a company that has been in the handheld biz since '89. How old were most of you? They wre the sole reason why tiger electronics went under! A portable device that can switch out the games, instead of buying tons of little plastic handheld devices.

What I'm trying to get at, b/c I digress, is that the PSP is actually a great machine, and I think it's worth buying. I never have time to play video games anymore, so the PSP lets me get my 15 mins in no problem. The function with the power button was genius too, it's like a sleep mode so you don't have to boot up all the time. I realize Gameboy has this feature (i think, never owned one) but still it works with the "on-the-go" life style none-the-less. With DS sales rapidly stomping on PSP I wonder to myself why it's doing THAT well. Is it the games that people know and love for 15 years now? Or is it that the main demographic are kids and parents don't want to buy there kids a machine like the psp b/c it's so expensive and looks like it's going to break? Somehow I feel it's the price that's speaking to me. I plunked down a good 400 smackers for the device, the case, and some games, and I still don't really touch the thing as much as I'd like. But when I was a kid I played the HELL out of my gameboy with Pokemon. It was SO simple yet so complex. I still don't understand how Nintendo does it. Two buttons, that's all, and the games are hard, harder than a priest in a playground!

Nintendo has owned the handheld market for years. So even though everybody is knocking PSP, it's doing quite well for only being out a year ago. I hope it does well, b/c it's a power house. The ideas for it are great but they just don't follow thourhg with what the tag says on it though. Surf the internet, nevermind the fact that you have no keyboard, and when you do the battery life is even shorter. Or that you can listen to music and watch movies, both require either more battery power or a larger memory stick (which are very expensive too). That brings it down to the games in my opinon. The games are great, I love them. You should try them too, even if you are a DS fanboy, just play it, it's fun, it's amazing to see that much power in the palm of your hand.

But lately I have been growing tired of all the racing, and the blood and the guts. It's geting tired, I'm geting tired, and im only 21. The DS appeals to me  now b/c you know what? I have associated the handheld market with kiddie games. I never thought i would see blood on a handheld. Here we are now with GTA liberty city stories. GREAT game, but I love the simpleness of the gameboy games. They are so cheeky and fun. People are always saying innocative, i don't know about that, but fun indeed. Like i said I played the HELL out of pokemon, and I still play mario (on my psp   )  But to be honest, I have not bought ONE PSP game since Twisted Metal, I have either stolen them or have them given to me. To darn expensive and the load times make me wanna kill myself of boredom. The DS gets it right. Fun games, fast loads, durable machine, if it's a hit make the add on's, long battery life, fast recharge, cheap games, hours of play time. This new strategy of thiers "appeal to the general people not the hardcore gamer" is winning, and I can only wait and see what happens with Revolution. As for my psp, I love it, and truly belive that they could have been rivals if the price tag was such a turn off. As for me, I know sony and they can get it right, I can't wait for their next take on a new handheld. Lets face it, the darn thing is so expensive to make that it will go down in price once production costs go down. Maybe a PSP'2?? But cheaper? We'll have to see, I for one hope.

Sony has *enis envy

Don't get me wrong with the Topic title. But all I'm trying to get at is that ps2 is the greatest gaming system the world had seen when it came out. But once word got out that x-box had better graphics I feel sony went overboard on trying to make the ps3 overhauled with graphics. I'm worried that all they are worried about now is how the graphics will stand up to other systems. With all the tech demo's coming out for 360 and ps3 there are not alot of games that I feel were innovative and actually fun to play. MGS4 looks like da' bomb and I love Devil May Cry (or maybe he won't) but even the PSP is a little power house in itself. It is THE stronges portable gaming device man has seen, but they tried a little too hard. I love my psp but there is something lovable about that cheap little DS with there quirky games and crappy graphics that has ALWAYS made me come back for more, (so I dont wanna hear any rants from you nintendo heads). Even my boy BionicCommando1 his fav game is "Bionic Commando" for NES and everybody including boys and girls play Mario 3 even today. That's rare, but Mario is the one game that got girls to play too which is a good thing. With the lack of innovative titles for the psp and too many ports "just b/c they can" mentality is not working for me at all. I'm not shelling out another 50 dollars just so i can play the SAME game on the go. Cuz in the end of the day it's the SAME GAME!! I"m begging you SONY don't forget what made you so great to begin with. It was not the graphics that got me baby, it was your games and your cojones to give the green light to weird quirky games that otherwise would have never been produced in the first place, that gave this otherwise distasteful food we call games a larger palette to choose from

Twisted Metal

I'll keep this short and sweet. Why the **** do the makers of Twisted Metal come out with Twisted Metal Black and never follow up with another release!!!! That game grabbed me by my balls and shook me around till i did'nt know if i was a man or woman!!! Same thing with Twisted Metal on PSP......no other releases, which by the way this release came outta nowhere!!! But was a definite added welcome! IT was practially the reason why I bought the PSP on launch instead of letting it marinate till it got a lower price tag. Man i love twisted metal, even more than woman (lie).
