Here is the thing about ps3, it's a great machine. When you're on the top you are always hated. I've been reading a few peoples blogs recently and the amount of bashing I have seen on the ps3 in terms of price and lack of innovation is ridiculous. Here are some interesting points as followed about this beloved system that will grace our eyes. First off the controller. It was not stolen from Nintendo, though I do feel they tacked it on their b/c of them, if that makes sense.
Its not a copy Sony had this controller idea since 1999!!!!!!

Abstract of JP11099284
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To instruct an operation by the movement of a small controller that is close to the movement of a character by making the controller movable, detecting its movement and outputting a signal, and switch-recognizing the direction of the movement on the basis of the outputted signal. SOLUTION: The controller detects an angular speed by a detection section provided in a connecting section that connects the right and left operating sections of a controller unit 82. For example, rotation in the direction of rolling in relation to the right and left operating buttons 55, 56 of the left operating section is detected as an angular speed in the direction of rotation in the XY plane by the detection section 70 with the Z axis as the central axis. The detection section 70 is comprised of a movement detection section 71 made up of an angular speed sensor 72 and an amplifier 73, and a direction detection section 74 made up of movement direction recognition switches 79, 80. Therefore, movement can be instructed by the movement of the controller without operating the operating buttons 55, 56, etc.
There is the patent. Read, weep, cry me a river, build a dam, and get the hell over it. As for the price. Sony was smart about giving us the price right now. Think about it. It gives us six months to save up about 700 bucks. Even if you work a six dollar an hour job and put in a good 40 a week. That's 240 dollars. Most people get paid bi-weekly so that's 480 bucks in 2 weeks of work. Is ps3 really that expensive now?? I mean cmon. Not to mention but Microsoft's press conference at E3 stated that they want to be as culturally significant as the I-pod, yet people pay 399 to 400 bucks for these things, and what does it do?? It just plays music!! Has that stopped sales? In a word...NO. they have sold about 33 million of those bad boys, and they are glitchy as hell. I should know, I've owned a few, and still use them. So 400 bucks for a music player, does 600 really sound that bad??
Another thing about the price, cmon guys its because it comes with a blu-ray player! For 200 extra bucks you get a powerful gaming machine and a blu-ray drive. What did microsoft do? That's right, they decided they are going to wait and see which one becomes the more dominant, so they admitted they will use blu-ray if everybody buys blu-ray, which sounds like a cop out and a lack of faith in HD-dvd. I have read up on HD-dvd, it's only sold about 7500 world wide!! So here is what I would like to point out for ps3. Do they have their work cut our for them? Yes they do!!! But if people decide to buy ps3 by the millions that's alot of blu-ray's sold, which means blu-ray just may become the more dominat format. Sony is responsible for spurring DVD sales b/c of it's ps2, and I see no reason why ps3 won't do the same thing with blu-ray. Fanboys of other consoles wanna bash sony for saying that it's to hard to program for the ps3, but developers said the same thing about the ps2!!! IF you guys can remember. Everybody said ps2 would fail b/c it's to expensive to make games, and to hard to program. Sound familiar huh? The problem is, you guys just want to hate SOny b/c they are on top and you can't admit they have great games. It's not even like ps2 had great graphics, just great third party support. From an article i read in gamespot developers have said that the games we see now are not even using 1/5 of the cell processing power, and the games are hard to program because there are more things the ps3 can handle at one given time. It's not like the 360 is easier and more powerful, it's just that ps3 can do more so it's tedious as hell to create the caliber of games Sony expects developers to do, which could be a good or bad thing. Ultimately the fate of Sony is in our hands whether we choose to buy, or don't buy. But bottom line is, it's expensive b/c it already has the drive installed whereas Microsoft will have another add on to buy down the road, in the end you will have to pay about as much as the ps3 did, except for we decided to go ahead and get the whole purchase out of the way, instead of waiting for yet another add-on. You have to hand it to Sony they DO know what they are doing. Right now all three company's are about equal, don't bash a system b/c the 599 version will come with everything you will need untill the NEXT next-gen jump while everybody else has to wait for the drive add on sometime in the future. The only gamble sony is now taking is if blu-ray fails, but once ps3 sells a few million at launch, I don't see how it will. :)
