The last old films that I've watched are Dr. Strangelove and the Exorcist. Both great films by the way. However I did find The Exorcist to be more of a comedy than a horror film. Don't get me wrong it might have been scarier back in the day, or if I was younger, but now I just found it to be random and hilarious. The awesome scenes started to go downhill after Reagan started to mutate though, in my opinion...
