A New Emblem and Assorted Phobias

Not a big or hard-workind day for me here. Yesterday, I made my 500th sub , got a shiny new emblem for it, and another show. It happened a bit by accident as I was trying to fix another guide - you might notice a similarity in names

I'm looking forward to a new House episode tonight, but my Tuesday's just aren't the same without VM. Only 2 more weeks!

Well, I don't have any major phobias, but have a good friend and sister with a few. So, when I came across Telesphobia (the fear of being last) on Gmvail23's blog earlier today, I started wondering if there could be a relationship between TV watching and some phobias.  Here is my list with some random ones I found curious at the end:

Fears you can get from watching too much TV:

Clinophobia - Fear of going to bed

Deipnophobia - Fear of dining or dinner conversations

Didaskaleinophobia or Ergophobia- Fear of going to school/work

Kinetophobia - Fear of movement (only goes away during commercials)

Neopharmaphobia - Fear of new drugs (induced by watching commercials)

Fears you can get from spending too much time on tvdot:

Athazagoraphobia - Fear of being forgotten, ignored, or forgetting

Heresyphobia - Fear of challenges to official doctrine or of radical deviation (TOS)

LogizoWSoDmechanophobia - Fear of computers' WSoD

Nomatophobia - Fear of names (cast subs anyone?)

Paralipophobia - Fear of neglecting duty or responsibility

Other odd or interesting fears:

Consecotaleophobia - Fear of chopsticks

Dextrophobia - Fear of objects at the right side of the body

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia - Fear of long words

Zemmiphobia - Fear of the great mole rat (hee, hee!)

That's all folks! (Watch out for ... )

A drive-by shot at Drive

Well, you asked for it - a 7 second review of Drive.

It's really very good, so you should definitely watch it!

OK, you probably wanted a bit more than that.

I'm not always a big fan of pilots, and in this case I'm glad they decided to air two episodes back to back. The second is stronger than the first, but I think that's to be expected. The first has a very cool opening credit sequence (lots of shots in this show are zoom-ins from way up - I wonder whose perspective that is supposed to be?) The Starting Line sets up part of the premise, that people are being tricked/forced/coerced into this race (Tully, by the "disappearance" of his wife - played by the lovely Amy Acker; Wendy, trying to escape her controlling and abusive husband; and Winston Salazar apparently by his father after being inexplicably released from jail.) Lots of good conspirarcy stuff here - who's in charge of this race, why and how do people get "picked" for it, and then there are a few that seem to be in it for "fun," but we just know that people are NOT going to be having much fun, 'cuz:

This is not The Amazing Race.

There are no hilarious gay couples, no exotic international locations, and no happy jumping up and down at the "checkpoints." When you come in last on a leg in this race, you have a much bigger task ahead of you than just begging locals for money to get on the bus. There are some excellent twists, enough women in the race that you can tell they want both women and men to watch this show. OK some of them are just stereotypically dumb - there's one at the end of the second episode - at least she's not blonde: we are watching the big schmaltz and some very obvious symbolism - and you might just be about to gag, when she looks up and says "I think I just figured out that clue." So, Tim's poking fun at himself. I do so like it when he does that. And even with the schmaltzy music playing, we see something that is both uplifting and disturbing at the same time (it will evoke disturbing memories for anyone over the age of 20.)

There's a bit too much of the serious Nathan eyes (OK, Corinna (Kristen) a conniving and treacherous woman, is in the car with him, so lots of making with the snippy remarks and looking at each other with "the angry eyes,") but it can be a bit single note. And when she first jumps in his car, she slams the door and says "Drive!" - obvious.  That did remind me of Joss saying one of his favorite movies is "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" because they say the title of the movie so many times in it. It only happens once here (at least in the first two epis.)

The music is great - everything from The Doors, to X (remember them??) and Bloc Party. The car scenes are fast and well-shot (but the cars - ah, not so great - these people have not had time to get a tune-up!) It's clear we're going to lose some significant characters along the way, so get ready for people dying. The relationships between the partners will be interesting, and there's lots of good back story, so this show has great potential.

Watch tomorrow night and let me know what you think. I'll probably try to post a review, but will wait until it's aired somewhere other than Canada. There was a funny goof in the first ep - I submitted it to Trivia - so you can check that out.

Ok, so that was way more than 7 secs, but was it a good enough tease? - no, I'm not doing any other kind of teasing!! *hands on hips*

Oh, and yippee, I got two more shows this morning!!  Enjoy the rest of your weekend folks.

Cya.

UFOs in Alaska , sewage, and levels??

Listening to the radio on the way home from work, I heard this woman being interviewed about seeing UFO's, yup, Unidentified Falling Objects in Wasilla, Alaska.

No one was abducted.

No one is mysteriously "with child."

But, people were pulling over in the middle of the day to see what was described as irregularly shaped, car-sized (which reminds me, I can't wait to watch Drive tonight!) foamy blobs falling right out of the sky. Foamy blobs made of sewage - ewww!  And I thought the snow that's been falling around here was bad!

Ok, I tried to post a picture of it, but I'll have to try again later - I suck at this

And, now, for something completely different! They just ran another level catch-up!

And I skipped right past the best level name "Holy Level 10!" This is the second time I've skipped a nicely named level (skipped the "Super Friend" too, and I'm not quite sure if my friends should be concerned; or perhaps I don't qualify as a super-friend

Well, I'm happy the levels are catching up, but it would have been nice to spend some time at either of those levels...

Gotta go, Drive is on and it's looking very, very good so far (already very intense eye action from Nathan, and a girl just hopped in his vehicle, much to his surprise, looked right at him and said "Drive!" - yeah, a bit predicable, but still looking good.)

Have a great weekend everyone, and don't let the sewage bubbles hit you!

First chat - yikes! and random happenings from history

I just escaped the Sopranos chat, wow do my eyes ever burn. But we actually chatted about the show for a while.

It's been a good long weekend, but weather is still way too cold for April. Back to work tomorrow and my office mate is away for 10 days; I'll have the place all to myself. *thinks, smiles, lots of posting this week*

So here's a few random things that happened on this day in history:

  • 1770 Captain James Cook discovers Botany Bay (Australia)
  • 1866 Civil Rights Bill passes over President Andrew Johnson's veto
  • 1869 Hudson Bay Company cedes its territory to Canada
  • 1912 Titanic leaves Queenstown Ireland for New York
  • 1926 Hugh [Marston] Hefner Chicago IL, magazine publisher (Playboy) born
  • 1932 Paul Krassner comic strip cartoonist (MAD Magazine)/founder (Yippies) born
  • 1939 Marian Anderson sings before 75,000 at Lincoln Memorial (see IndianaMom's blog)
  • 1945 NFL requires players to wear long stockings
  • 1950 Bob Hope's 1st TV appearance
  • 1953 "TV Guide" publishes 1st issue
  • 1968 Martin Luther King Jr, buried in Atlanta GA
  • 1970 Paul McCartney announces official split of the Beatles
  • 1986 "Dallas" announces it will revive the killed Bobby Ewing character
  • 1990 Marston Glenn Hefner son of Hugh Hefner & Kimberley Conrad born
  • 1991 Release of Microsoft MS-DOS 5.0
  • 1998 Tammy Wynette [Virginia Wynette Pugh] country singer (Stand By Your Man), dies from a blot clot at 55

Now, what would be your best and worst from that list??

Goodnight everyone!

GRRR -- Levels are so messed up!!

I'm so frustrated with this site!

Yesterday I got a 2% increase for doing basically nothing on Friday (visited a few forums, posted one thing maybe.) Today I got another 2% after more than 25 submissions, all accepted.

OK, so now the CP points show up, but the levels don't work. Can we truly only have one or the other?
