Score: XOX - 20th Anniversary World Tour Live with the Octavarium Orchestra Dream Theater""
Since Dream Theater has graced the music industry, I have had nothing respect for the band that has given rock music a new direction.
Prog Rock? I think not... they are better than that, by far, and their playing shows that each individual musician has a talent that surpasses other rock musicians in their genre.
Although the band are fans of Yes, Pink Floyd etc - and you can hear that in their music on many occasions - they have an edge that no other \"prog rock\" band has had before and that is what makes them stand out against that mis-labelled tag.
Take the heavyness of Metallica (check out the first track on this live album) and the subtle classical guitar melodies that put the likes of Rhoads and Malmstein to shame, and you have a band that have themselves progressed into something that will stand the sands of time.
Is this classical music for the future? Will these guys be compared to the likes of Beethoven and shopin when we\'re all pushing up daisies in wooden overcoats?
20 years have passed since their first outting as a rock-outfit, and even now I could listen to those recordings. Pushing the boundries and thinking outside of the box is what makes a great composor - and in this case rock band.
What impresses me the most is the high end production of every recording they have produced. Even down to the official bootlegs, every instrument can be heard - and that itself is the work of a genius producer and this live recording should be a benchmark for other bands who record live.
Dream Theater\'s CDs should be in every rock fan\'s collection. Each one is a story waiting to be told and this live CD is their story of 20 years of great musician-ship.
I cannot thank these guys enough for bringing hours of entertainment to me and my ear drums. Let\'s hope they last another 20!
Do you know what? I think they will.
Thank you, Dream Theater.
