Community Spotlight Rocks!!!

So, I'm in the Community Spotlight!!! I'm feeling like a RockStar!

So in my last blog I was gearing up for my transition from Directv with TiVo to fiber optics. I had already switched over my phone and computer connection but I was reluctant to play with my TV connection. I guess it's that old adage - If it ain't broke, don't fix it. However, when I realized how much I could save I decided to take the plunge...

Well, initially, I wasn't feeling very impressed. I have been complaining for quite some time about how many TV shows seems to use dark light. It makes it so hard to see what's going on! I was hoping that with my new connection, I would get better picture clarity. I decided to mention this to the installer. He very politely told me it wasn't the TV show or the connection, it was my TV! O.K., I guess my TV was kind of old but still.... So I thought I would make a quick trip to the store and buy a new TV. Imagine my surprise when I found that they don't really make TV's anymore. It's flat panels, wall mount or free standing, LCD or plasma, 720p or 1080p, blah blah blah. After much confusion and head scratching I got a Toshiba 37" LCD flat screen.

So now I have this big TV, a new TV console to put it on and no idea how to hook it up. Like any self-respecting adult would do, I invited my favorite teenager over and *presto* 37" of crystal clear HD TV. I thought I died and went to heaven!

All in all, the fiber optic picture clarity is far superior whether HD or regular TV. I got the multi-room DVR so now I can watch my recorded shows in bed. Unfortunately, that TV is kind of old too and doesn't have HD. Any shows I record in HD can't be watched from my bed. Oh well, I guess there are worse things...

As for the DVR - it's no TiVo. I am trying to get used to it but it's definitely not the same. Especially for a hard core TV.commer. I need slow advance to get cast lists and crew lists. The slow advance on the DVR is crap. The fast forward is also unpredictable.

When considering the whole package, I'm glad I made the switch. Though it's harder to do some of my TV.com stuff, watching action-packed shows like 24, Lost and Flashpoint with such a crystal clear picture can't be beat. And for shows that use dark lighting, like CSI and CSI: Miami - I can actually see the characters now!

Peace to all!

HOLY COW!! Big Happenings for the New Year!

Holy Moly! I'm a woman on a mission! I have made a big decision (o.k. maybe it's only big for me). I have decided to give up my TiVo for the New Year. Instead, I have signed up for a new fiber optics package which comes with a multi-room DVR. I already switched to fiber optics for my computer and phone but I have been afraid to switch my TV. I am not the most technologically-minded person. I do really well with my TiVo and I was afraid to switch to something else. However, right now, I only have the TiVo on one TV in the living room. I would love to cozy up in bed and watch my many recorded shows! So - the idea of a multi-room DVR was really hard to resist. What really made me decide to change though was the SAVINGS!!! It turns out to be a huge monthly savings. That was something I definitely could not resist! So now for the mission part... I have to try to clear out all of my backlog of shows by this Friday, Jan 2nd. So this is a warning to all of my favorite editors! Look out! I will be on a submitting frenzy! Of course I will still be making only QUALITY submissions! Wish me luck!!!!

Another Re-design...design...new logo? What's next?

Oh my. It's getting so that you just never know what to expect when you log on to TV.com!!! After a hard day at work, I log on to find to find a strange looking page. I actually thought I had mistyped the web address! It was quite shocking, especially since many of us are still reeling from the redesign mess. However, I am reserving my opinion on this latest design. Though it's pretty WHITE, I'm going to wait to see if it grows on me. I must say...I am a little bummed about the TV.com logo. I liked the blue...

My Shameful Secret

I have a terrible secret....

A shameful secret...

I've tried to deny it....

I've tried to keep it to myself....

But- I can't hold it in any longer...

(I'm gonna whisper, lean in close)

I've fallen for a FLORIDA GATOR!!!!

Wheesh! I'm so relieved to get that off my chest. Why is this so shamful? As you can see from my icon, I'm a Florida State Seminole. Noles do not like Gators. It's just not done! However, at the beginning of the football season I watched a press conference where a big, good-looking, strapping, young man gave an impassioned apology after his team lost to Ole Miss. Yes I am talking about Heisman Trophy winner, Tim Tebow. The last 40 seconds of the video link tell you the caliber of this player. No excuses, no blaming others. Instead a passionate promise to player harder. And boy has he ever! I watched last week, when he beat my beloved Seminoles. While it killed me that the Noles lost, I absolutely loved watching Tim stalk down the field with red Seminole field paint smeared down the side of his face and uniform. When he had his helmet off it looked like blood.

Tim Tebow

I was looking forward to today's game, #1 Alabama vs. #2 Florida. Tim did not disappoint. The game was intense and Tim Tebow pushed himself and his teammates on to an incredible victory. His missionary parents was there to cheer him on. During his post-game interview, Tim's first words were, "I want to thank my Lord and Savior." This is a young man who is not afraid to live his faith and, more importantly, not afraid to talk about it. He even has a bible passage etched in the black paint below his eyes, Phil 4:13. Appropriately this passage says - "I can do everything through him who gives me strength." Needless-to-say, that's not something you see every day, especially in a young man. So, though I still bleed Garnet and Gold for the Seminoles, I have a special place in my heart for a GATOR!
