Engaged.

Yes, you read it right. No I'm not engaged in a fight or anything...I'm engaged to my lovely fiancé. I will have to upload pictures.

And the story...

Well, I took her on an all day date on the 31st, and we recreated our first date. We went and did all our things and then stayed up until sunrise because we wanted to see the first sunrise of 2010. She had absolutely no idea I was asking her this morning. We were up on the mountain to see the sunrise and everyone usually writes their names on the rocks up on the mountain at the sunrise point. So we begin to write our names and such and I found a nice little spot and wrote, "Will you marry me?" She was a little taken aback and she had to choke back some tears. And of course, you know she said yes. It was a pretty awesome day for me so far. Nice way to start off the new year huh? Well, I suppose that's it. Time to go help plan a wedding...

Mass Effect 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction are taking too long to get here.

New beginnings?

First off, Happy New Year everybody. Hopefully the year of Luxord will turn out to be better than the year of Demyx. I love Demyx, he just really failed at managing his year. It kind of sucked majorly.

I JUST finished AC 2. And, AH MAN, what an ending. So to avoid spoiling anything, I'll just say this. At the very end, I REALLY wanted to kill them. Like REALLY. (referring to the final target AND the person at the very very end.)

And when the chick said 'Desmond' my eyes were like O_O.

Overall, that was a much better ending than the first game. I remember walking around afterward expecting something to happen and when it didn't, I was kind of disappointed. But not too much, since I got to go back in and kill more people.

I've made some pretty good progress on Dissidia too. I cleared Cloud's story mode and started on Cecil's. It amuses me greatly that Firion and Cecil's voices are the same as Lelouch and Suzaku's. xD

I might pop in Mass Effect in a bit, or I might just keep AC 2 in until I finish all the little side things I didn't do yet.

If the camera adds ten pounds, the hi-def camera adds ten years.
Long time no blog. I admit I've been pouring most of my online energy playing slot machine and virtual pet games, but it's been a lot of fun connecting with my old buddies and meeting some new folks to swap virtual toys. Looking back at my old blogs here, I sure do miss writing about television and chatting here.

I remember some years ago, they had played the Star Wars Episode 2 movie on one of the first digital projector runs in the country. I remarked to my buddy that we were so close to the screen, that you could see the pixel lines. He then moved back a bunch of rows to watch the rest of the movie.

Fast forward to this year, where we finally went and gone hi-def with a new console. I found it interesting that the 37-inch ones cost as much as the 40-inch ones, as it's considered an unusual size, but the 37 is good for our furniture limitations. The weight is much lighter than the old CRTs, and it's supposedly Energy Star, although I feel like it's a bigger heater than the old one. My dad convinced us to get the 1080p option, which I hear isn't necessary for that size but still nice to have.

After bumping up the cable bill again, I finally got to enjoy hi-def service, and wow, so here's what I've been missing the past few years:

The most impressive show so far is CSI: Miami. They had some outdoor scene and it felt like I was there. The vibrant colors and hi-tech lab stuff were a nice touch, and doesn't have as much Dark and Gloomy like the other CSIs.

The local newscasters' coffee mugs on their anchor desk. One of them has both a Starbucks cup of the day AND a mug, like, what, you can't have just one? Or maybe it has some water or some secret teeth whitener?

Crazy detail on the sports channels. Can't wait for the bowl games, sports playoffs, and Olympics. Too bad there aren't that many teams I care about.

Catching part of the Lord of the Rings weekend makes me want to get a Blu-ray ASAP. Of course that means more upgrading, so maybe not. Celtic Women on the PBS promos looked pretty darn good too.

Meredith Vieira's makeup job during closeups on The Today Show. I knew coming in that Jay Leno puts on a lot of makeup, but at that hi-def resolution, you can see any of that clearly, and wrinkles. Julianne Moore's hair looked great on all her guest spots on the talk shows, but I feel for the regular people on the news that don't have the opportunity to be made up like that. There was one part recently where the detail was so good you could read Meredith's news card. But the people are still crowded up in the center of the screen when it comes to positioning people in those shows; guess they don't want to lose the cable-clinging standard def crowd.

House decorating makeover shows. Looks good for Clean House to get more messiness on the screen, but when the extra space is just used to show more wall space of a hallway or a tiny bedroom, I feel rather sad about wanting to buy a place.

CN HD and Disney XD HD is a waste. Some shows took advantage of the extra space, but what's the point of putting Phineas and Ferb or any cartoon where I could draw outlines of the characters myself?

In the anime world, which isn't hi-def yet, I've been watching The Wallflower, which is quite funny given the number of folks I know who love all that New Moon stuff. I also got to see some of One Piece without the 4Kids editing, and there are plenty of others in the queue for the rest of the year.

Needless to say this has increased my television watching dramatically. I found myself watching the series finale episodes of Monk, more CSIs this month than the rest of this past year, and even that AMC remake of The Prisoner, which features Jesus and Gandalf stuck in some town trying to mess with each other, and more WTF moments than Lost. Fear big white balls and mysterious holes.

Question: What shows do you enjoy on hi-def or movies that you would automatically upgrade in your collections?

Christmas is right around the corner...

I'm starting to get excited about it, which is rare for me. Although neither of my parents has any money (both have been out of a job for about 6+ months now). Luckly, as far as money goes, I've been doing alright. So, most of my paycheck has been going to Christmas presents. I've spent over $200 on presents and I keep remembering more people to buy for! That's alright though because I know that no one (at least in my family) has been doing alright finacially.

In other news, I'm done with my finals! The semester is FINALLY over! I'm going to do nothing but play games. Hopefully I'll be able to finish a few of them, Uncharted being at the top of my list.

In other other news, I just realised that my banner needs changing...it still says June 2009 profile. Shows how long I was gone. lol Hopefully I'll get around to changing that because it is starting to bug me a bit.

Sorry if this blog was poorly written (what is new). lol I'm not all here because I'm pretty sure I've got a nasty case of food poisoning or something like it. Anyways, hope everyone has a great weekend. Look out for the crazy Christmas shoppers/drivers!

alext_b STILL LIVES.

Yes, I'm still alive. And no, I wasn't waiting for a princess to come and wake me up with a kiss My last blog post is date Oct '08 and I can't believe it's been a year since I last logged in. Glances at the inbox though, keep me glued to reality. Why have I been away?

Well, first of all, when I first left GS there was close to zero activity, and I'd found other places to go to. Plus, I was pretty busy back then and quite literally addcited to GS so I used to end up wasting a lot of time. I'm still busy but the addiction is no longer there...

Secondly, my system back then was old, really old, and couldn't run anything new. But now I have a new rig and decided to at least come to GS to take a look at what's floating around, and lost to my urge to log in

My rig: Intel Core2 Duo E7500 2.93 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT 1 gb, with 2 gigs of ram and 1 TB HDD. I kept telling my dad that 2 gigs ram won't be enough but he said that I can get an upgarde when I need to. Same for the CPU. The GPU should last for a while but when it falls short I can just bridge it with SLI.

The first game I played was Assassin's Creed, something I'd bought a few months after it was released and was just waiting to play it I intend to go get some games this weekend, which is why I looked up GS.

I know my last blog post said this too, but once again I'd like to know what's going on around here...A short update on action/racing games would be welcome. And please let me know if there's enough activity around here to sustain me or not. All this, only if you guys still remember me...

Assassin's Creed 2 took over my life during Thanksgiving.

For about five days straight I did nothing but eat sleep and play AC 2. I had a blast with that game and it is my current choice for game of the year. I played so much I would fall asleep with the controller in my hands, wake back up and continue right back where I let off. However I have basically done everything in that game. I have all the achievements for it and now feel very sad that its over. Well it was a blast while it lasted and now I am yearning for a copy of Borderlands.

And the game to buy is........

FIFA 2010! I decided to pick this up over Tekken because of three reasons:

1. Tekken might not have the long lasting gameplay that I might have with FIFA.

2. It's gotten rave reviews from various websites and international websites already for FIFA. Granted, there isn't any reviews of Tekken 6 yet, but still.

3. I'm just too much of a futbol kind of guy. =DDD.

Just a Quick Update

So I see I haven't posted a blog in awhile so I figure I better just get a little something posted to keep with the times. School's started back up which kind of sucks for me. I had to leave my old school for very complecated reasons but now I'm the new kid in a different county. So far I still don't really know anyone to closely but I do have quite a few acquantices I talk to in the hallways andin class and such. I plan on joining lacrosse so that I get involved in school events and what not. Should be fun.

As far as gaming goes, I've been pretty idle. I've been playing Shadow Compex a lot, love that game to death. Well worth $15. I finally got around to playing God of War 2 so I'm also thoroughly enjoying that. It has a very epic feel to it, great fun. Lastly, I'm playing a lot of Halo 3 online. I love all things Halo so this should be expected of me but this is the first time I've really felt attached to Halo 3 like all the other Halos.

Anyways, I hope everyone is doing well!

Think I'll come back for a bit...

Well, I think I'll make a return to see if I can get back into the community, mainly the PS3 board and game specific ones. Been gone for quite a bit (left due to the community and went to PlayStation.com). Gonna reapply to GUFU and see if I can get back in but other than that...not much else.

Notable news, my PS3 died (the week the Batman demo released). Not surprised as it was a 60GB and I've been hearing plenty of those are dying amongst a few friends on the PS.com. I'm not so much pissed about it dying as I am about losing the HDD contents in the process. I lose ~100+ hours of Valkyria Chronicles (A rank on all missions but the EX stuff), 100+ hours of Soul Calibur IV, MGS4 stuff (~6 playthroughs w/ Bandana and Stealth) and the various other games. I'm pissed that I lose that stuff.

So that's 1 PS3 dead and 2 360s for this gen. No luck whatsoever this gen. Sucks that it's a roll of the dice on whether or not your console is going to work everytime you turn it on. Gonna have to wait a bit on getting that fixed as I'm looking for work. Once that's out of the way and seeing what income is like, I may even consider getting another 360 for the handful of exclusives that interest me but I'm still skeptical on the hardware...

The Man, The Legend, The Free Man

All Time Greatest Hero - Gordon Freeman

What makes Dr. Gordon Freeman the all time greatest hero? People often bring up that he doesn't talk, like that is supposed to disparage him in some way. Apparently these same people enjoy sitting through cinematic cutscenes depicting game protagonists in the developers' vision, speaking as the developer wants. Unlike many other developers, Valve took a different approach to Half-Life's protagonist, Gordon Freeman. It's not that Valve was too cheap to hire a voice actor (one can see evidence of voice acting in the many NPCs), but rather because Valve is letting you BE Gordon Freeman. Every time you play a Half-Life game, you do not play AS Gordon Freeman, you ARE Gordon Freeman.
All Time Greatest Hero - Gordon Freeman
Gordon Freeman graduated from MIT with a Ph.D in theoretical physics and wrote a thesis entitled Observation of Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Entanglement on Supraquantum Structures by Induction Through Nonlinear Transuranic Crystal of Extremely Long Wavelength (ELW) Pulse from Mode-Locked Source Array. How many other game protagonists have a Ph.D or have written any kind of thesis, let alone one on such advanced matter? Disappointed in the slow pace of teleportation research, Freeman decided to take a job at the top secret Black Mesa Research Facility. At the mere age of 27, his life would be forever changed.
All Time Greatest Hero - Gordon Freeman
One moment he is a theoretical physicist performing the menial task of pressing a button, and in the next moment he is defending himself against hostile aliens. Donning a Hazardous Environment (H.E.V.) suit and equipped with a mere crowbar, Freeman goes from geek to badass in no time. This is one of the reasons Gordon Freeman is the all time greatest hero. He is not a soldier. He is not a half-god. He is a scientist. He takes on throngs of enemies out of necessity, not because it is his job. He quickly adapts to his situation and becomes a soldier of the resistance on his own accord. For all intents and purposes, he becomes a modern day messiah. He eliminates the evil alien race, the Nihilanth, thus freeing the Vortigaunts who later join the human resistance against the trans-dimensional Combine Empire. In doing so, he is not only praised and referred to as "The Free Man" by the Vortigaunts, but he is also called "The One Free Man" by Earth's survivors. Furthermore, the Combine recognize him as the single greatest threat to their empire, referring to him as "Anticitizen One." The fact that an alien race that spans several dimensions considers Gordon Freeman its number one threat is further evidence that he is the all time greatest game hero.
All Time Greatest Hero - Gordon Freeman
Now some may argue that because the Half-Life series isn't over, he cannot be considered a hero, let alone the all time greatest hero. After all, we do not know for sure that he'll "succeed" in Half-Life 2: Episode Three or any other subsequent Half-Life games. But should not a person be judged by all his actions and not simply his or her last deed in life? Even if somehow Freeman dies in Episode Three, is he not already a hero? He already saved Earth from one alien invasion, he freed a whole alien race, and he has given Earth's remaining survivors hope for the future.
All Time Greatest Hero - Gordon Freeman
If you do not view Gordon Freeman as the all time greatest hero, I can only assume that you have never played the Half-Life series the way they were meant to be played. You have never experienced the true immersion Valve provided in the Half-Life games. You never BECAME Gordon Freeman. And if that's the case, I feel nothing but pity for you, for you have truly missed out on one of gaming's greatest gifts.

Half-Life 2: It's just that awesome.

Be sure to vote for Gordon Freeman as All Time Greatest Game Hero here!

I'm still alive

Hey, how's everyone doing? Good i hope.

It has been a while since i last posted a blog entry and there have been good reasons for that. Work and more recently my holidays have kept me away.

About my holidays, for a change i left the island where i'm usually stranded. I went on a twelve day trip across the Portuguese mainland.

Started off in Lisbon, capital city, where i stayed for three days. I already knew the city, in fact it's the only place i know in the Portuguese mainland, but nonetheless, i wanted to visit it again. Here is a picture of me near the Torre de Belém, one of the city's and country's landmarks:

Check out teh shades

Next i headed south to Faro, capital of Algarve, a region known for it's warm weather and great beaches. I stayed there for six days. That gave me the opportunity to get to know not only Faro, but also other places like Albufeira, home of some of the country's best beaches. Here i am in Albufeira:

Couldn't wait to get in the water...

For the last three days i headed towards the north, to Portugal's second biggest city, Porto. Porto was a really pleasant surprise, it's a beautiful city, filled with beautiful old buildings and bathed by the amazing river Douro, in which shores is produced the world known Port Wine. Here is a picture of me near the D. Luiz I bridge and a picture of Avenida dos Aliados:

Beautiful bridge

Those are painted statues, in case you're wondering...

Came back home yesterday, tired of all the walking and long train trips, but really happy with what i've experienced in this holiday. I had a really good time.

Btw, my eyes are not closed in those pics. They's just semi shut due to the strong sunlight.

Well, this was an update on my whereabouts. See you guys around.
