Virtua Fighter 5 Reveals Microsoft Employees are Inexperienced and Ignorant
I am upset that Virtua Fighter 5 will be exclusively available on Playstation 3 and completely unavailable for Xbox 360. I know that Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer are excellent businessmen, but I now believe that they have delegated too much responsibility to the wrong men! Guys like Robbie Bach, J Allard, and Peter Moore have lost a great deal of my respect, because they are not taking enough of the Japanese market into consideration! Japan may only represent a 15% share of the worldwide videogame market at this point in time, but many of the worlds best game designers are based in Japan, which makes some of the Japanese designers biased towards the products selling well in Japan.
Just because the Virtua Fighter series was never very popular with the mass market of gamers in North America or Europe does not mean that it isn't important to the success of Xbox 360! The Virtua Fighter franchise is by far the most successful and most popular fighting series in the Japanese market, which means that Sony will instantly attract a large market of wealthy hardcore enthusiast gamers in Japan, regardless of how much the system costs. There are about 500,000 consumers in North America who feel the same way; that is the entire reason why they bought the Sega Saturn system. 500,000 systems may not be enough for the Saturn or the Playstation 3 to succeed in the long run, but it certainly does help lay a foundation for success.
Peter Moore used to work for Sega, and he should know how important Virtua Fighter 3 was to the launch of the Dreamcast. The Virtua Fighter series is FAR more popular in Japan than the Dead or Alive series. Dead or Alive is much more popular in North America, but in Japan it is Virtua Fighter that is more popular. Microsoft messed up BIGTIME by allowing Virtua Fighter 5 to appear exclusively on Playstation 3.
Microsoft should not have had a goal that was focused on allowing games like Virtua Fighter, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest to appear on both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Microsoft should have had the goal of doing what Sony did; Microsoft should have made sure they ended up with Virtua Fighter, Final Fantasy, and Dragon Quest as Xbox 360 exclusive franchises!
Sony clearly has the "eye of the tiger" in a way that Microsoft does not. The strange thing is that Microsoft has financial reserves so much greater than Sony. Perhaps Microsoft should stop giving billions of dollars away to charity and instead focus on doing what it takes to succeed in the gaming industry. Either that or they could just fire Peter Moore; the guy who lived in the shadow of Bernie Stolar and then killed off the Dreamcast almost instantly with his poor management.
Man-oh-man; I just can't believe that enthusiastic men like Steve Ballmer, Bill Gates, J Allard, or Robbie Bach would allow the Xbox 360 to go without the Virtua Fighter franchise. Virtua Fighter is the gaming series that brought 3-D fighting into existence. It is bad enough for the Xbox 360 that the Playstation 3 had Namco's Tekken franchise exclusively, but with Namco's Tekken 6 and Sega's Virtua Fighter 5 the Playstation 3 CLEARLY owns the home 3-D fighting target market!
When the Xbox 360 loses billions of dollars, just like the Xbox, they can think about this moment in time. When Microsoft looks back at the way the Xbox 360 failed in Japan, they can look back at this moment in time. When Microsoft looks back at why the Xbox 360 didn't achieve the kind of success that it could have, they will say that it was because they allowed franchise games like Ridge Racer 6 and Full Auto to be released the next year in the form of Ridge Racer 7 and Full Auto 2 as exclusive games for the Playstation 3.
Up until this very moment, I was confident that Microsoft would end up gaining the largest worldwide market share in this videogame generation. However, I now believe that the Xbox 360 will be the best selling console in every major geographic market, except for Japan. I don't say that simply because of the importance of Virtua Fighter 5 or Tekken; I say this because it clearly shows that Microsoft is not hungry; they don't have the "eye of the tiger" like Sony does when it comes to making sure that games like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest appear on the system.
I think this should be a big concern to Microsoft stock holders. If Microsoft employees lack the simple visionary objectives necessary to give players the ability to enjoy a legendary fighting franchise such as Virtua Fighter or Tekken, then how in the world are they going to defeat a company like Google that is very hungry and has "the eye of the tiger."

I wouldn't count M$ out either, they are going to have some great games exclusive to the 360, Like Gears or War which will own, I got the latest OXM demo disc and GoW trailer is done in real time by the 360, IT's going to definately live up to the hype, believe me when I tell you I know some body who was at E3 and they told me that it had an incredible out with people both in the industry and out of the industry's mouths were on the floor.
Just wait 2-3 years down the road M$ will smarten up.
#1 The 2 biggest selling franchises in the west are Halo & GTA only MS have them both,beat em up's are big but as the market has expanded so has the tastes for other genres e.g. FPS how much market share in the west does that have? ( Soul Calibur on the dreamcast i love that still now) check how many FPS's MS has compared to Sony.........last year for the first time the North American Market was bigger than the Eastern..........................
#2Now this is where it gets really interesting notice i keep mentioing the western market.I'm in the U.K. we have a excellent "High brow" gaming monthly called Edge Magazine its been going for years and has some very heavy articles in it to say the least ,coding stuff ,dev interviws, business reports,etc.Well last month when i went on holiday i took my copy read ! article and it all became clear!.
MS have failed big time in Japan, this piece was taking to Japanese Devs who were starting to Voice there concerns that as thier domestic market was struggling they needed to look more to the US but as MS are building strongly they cannot afford to be Sony excllusive so will have to go with the Xbox brand ....the irony!.This in turn means they will then release the product on both brands in thier domestic market.Somthing they have not been doing but because of other factors e.g. "the west" .
This i believe may well be MS best way to the East ,Corner the West and all will have to follow Viva Pinata anyone, it my well be thier plan it would make perfect business sense.I hope i've made some points you have found interesting let me know !
Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Dragon Quest ,Virtual Fighter and Tekken are not IPs owned by Sony. They are free to go wherever they please. (Final Fantasy and Virtual fighter have made showings on the GC recently as well.) Any one of these could go off to another system.
I agree with Nev that the US is now a big enough market that it is able to demand its own games, not just Japans table scraps. I also agree with Mike that this is a hit to MS and it would have been better for them in Japan had they gotten this IP. MS seems very focused on the West and with good reason. It is the easiest ground for them to gain. N3 was a good move for the Japanese market but they still need more. PS; Viva Pinata is a great move as well. I will miss not getting to play VF but I have other things to play.
The Japanese market is important, but not as important as the western market. The 360 is runing the western next market right now, so who cares about "Japanese table scraps" as in the words of John_of_Fire.(thanks bro)

Just because Mike has done an excellent job of pointing out the facts relating to the current videogame industry does not make him a "FUD," or anything else like that.
Mike has specifically made it clear that he is NOT employed by Microsoft, nor has he been in the past. What more do you want the guy to say! When Mike and people like him say that they agree with Yahoo and USA Today that the Xbox 360 is the Best videogames system to purchase for Christmas in 2006, while the Playstation 3 is the worst, that does NOT make them employees of Microsoft, even if there are people who work with Microsoft with the same name!!! Sony just made that job very easy for EVERYONE: All of the professionral editors of newspapers, magazines, websites, and all of the people who write comments. There are PLENTY of people who agree with the things mike_mgoblue has to say, and I am proud to say that I am one of them!!!

The fact that USA Today and Yahoo say that the Microsoft Xbox 360 is the best videogame system currently available and the best next-generation system to purchase this Christmas just goes to show you that anybody calling mike_mgoblue a name like an "FUD" or a "schill" is just an immature fanboy who is upset that the Playstation 3 is being called a disappointment.
In 2005, I was looking forward to seeing what the Playstation 3 would be like. But now, after the 2006 game shows have occurred, I know that the Xbox 360 is the best game system there is. USA Today was right to give the awards for Best Games to the Xbox 360. And USA Today was also right to say that the Playstation 3 was the Biggest Disappointment of the year.
The Xbox 360 dominated the 2006 Electronic Entertainment Expo. I read many of mike_mgoblue's comments about the 2006 E3, and I agree with virtually everything he had to say.
The Xbox 360 also dominated the 2006 Game Convention in Europe, which took place in August. Once again, I read many of the things that mike_mgoblue had to say, and I agree with what he said on just about everything. And just so you know, almost all of the time, it was mike_mgoblue who was agreeing with other people who had posted first!!! Michael Zoran just talked about things with more detail, like he usually does. I think that is very nice, because I always learn a lot from him. Mr. Zoran is a genius when it comes to the videogame industry!!!
Oh, and I read a lot of the things that mike_mgoblue (Michael Zoran) had to say about the Tokyo Game Show and the Microsoft X06 show. Once again, I agreed with just about everything he said, and so did many of the other people. Many times I saw that Mr. Zoran started things out by saying, "I agree with you," and then he just gave his opinion and talked about possible outcomes, and things like that.
mike_mgoblue is NOT a fanboy...For crying out loud, just take a look at his profile to see that. Mr. Zoran often points out that Microsoft needs to do a better job of getting games that would help the Xbox 360 in Japan. Even though games like Virtua Fighter and Tekken aren't real popular in North America or Europe, where the Xbox 360 has sold so well, it is still very important to get games like VF5, Tekken 6, Final Fantasy XIII, and Dragon Quest for the Japanese market...and mike_mgoblue points that out. In my opinion, mike_mgoblue is 100% unbiased.

I know that he is currently looking to find a job, and he is not employeed by Microsoft, and he says he never has been. I believe him, and so should everybody else.

Michael Zoran (mike_mgoblue) isn't the one you should be yelling at. The one that all of the former Playstation fans should be yelling at is Sony!!! Sony is the reason why the Playstation 3 is such a big disappointment. Michael Zoran (mike_mgoblue) just comments about all of the negative articles written about the Playstation 3. So, don't blame him, blame Sony, because Sony is the company that provides USA Today, Yahoo, CNN, and every videgame magazine and website plenty of things to write about in terms of how much of a disappointment the Playstation 3 is.
I know 3 people that were there, at E3.(And they don't know each other) Said just that they weren't impressed with the PS3 AT ALL. One of my friends said it sucked hard. Mike you sould band that ZEKE 129 from your blog his just a fearfull playedstation fan that's hoping for a miracle that the 360 tanks(WHICH IT WON'T being that as of June they sold 6.1 million units) This is M$'s XBOX360's generation. Even though P$3 sales are going to be solid they just won't be able to catch up, there's just too many great games comming on the 360 for it to stay on top.

To me the 360 has and will prove itself, all that 25Gig Blu-ray mess being essential for HD graphics is a load of infant crap! Look at games like Gears of War, GRAW and Masseffect. Those games alone look fantastic with out a next gen DVD format. I don't see how games like Resistance fall of man require 25Gigs of space, it doesn't even look remotely better then Gears of War.
The PS3 is and will continue to be a dissapointment, sony is trying real hard to put the 360 and M$ out of the console business and it shows.(They try to put in a format that nobody right now wants or cares about, they overcharge for there products and when those PS3's break down they will make them pay!(sony doesnot have good customer service they are going to charge the customers when something in those $900 PS3's break./that's how much it cost sony to make those things! They loose $300 per console)

At the 2005 E3, Sony told all sorts of lies about the Playstation 3, because the Xbox 360 was going to be released, and everybody was so excited about the Xbox 360. Sony told those lies just to draw attention away from the Xbox 360.
At the 2006 E3, after the Xbox 360 had been released, and it had built up an excellent library of games, the Playstation 3 was in BIG trouble, because ALL of the lies Sony had previously told were exposed.
For example, Sony was showing computer-graphic images of games that looked like real movies! The demo of Tekken at the 2005 E3 looked amazing; you could even see the blackhead pimples on the nose of the character. The problem is that this ended up being one of the many lies told by Sony, which were eventually exposed.
In fact, when Namco let people see the actual Tekken 6 game for the Playstation 3 at the 2006 E3, people said that it didn't even look much different than the Playstation 2 version of Tekken 5. One thing was clear, Tekken 6 on the Playstation 3 absolutely DOES NOT look anything close to as good as Dead or Alive 4 on the Xbox 360!
The same thing can be said about all of the other Playstation 3 games that were shown at the 2006 E3. When Sony started showing games like Gran Turismo in 1080p resolution, it disappointed so many people in the audience that you could hear a pin drop! Playstation 3 did so poorly that Sony's Phil Harrison literally had to ask the audience to clap for the Playstation 3! People in the audience volutarily clapped for the Xbox 360 and the Wii, but Sony's Phil Harrison had to say, "Let's give those developers a hand for their work." Oh, and very few people clapped!
Gran Turismo on the Playstation 3 has graphics that don't even come close to Project Gotham Racing 3 on the Xbox 360. And by the time Gran Turismo is actually released on the Playstation 3, it will be competing against games like Forza Motorsport 2 and Project Gotham Racing 4. Obviously, the Xbox 360 has a HUGE advantage!!!
Call of Duty 3 on the Xbox 360 runs at twice the frame-rate of the Playstaton 3 version. This is because the Xbox 360 has nearly twice the polygon display power as the Playstation 3. Xbox 360 is capable of displaying 500,000,000 polygons per second, while the Playstation 3 is only capable of displaying 275,000,000 polygons per second. You can read about that here:

The REAL Playstation 3 specifications that were announced at the 2006 E3 disappointed everybody! So, I definitely agree with you that the lies Sony has told have caught up with them, and it has hurt their reputation...just as much as the embarrassing lies that Sony has told about the SEVEN MILLION laptop computer batteries that have needed to be recalled because they are flammable and explosive!!!

I had said last year that sony is in a great position, the only way they can loose this next gen war if they beat them selves. Well it looks like there halfway there. That 400,000 consoles availble at launch is clearly there fault. And here's why.
1 They use an unprooven and unknown disc fromat, that factories and developers aren't even familiar with.
2 they are overcomfidant. And too arrogant to realize that they should "care about the compitition."
3 Even though sony won't die there kicking them selves in the nuts, because they will be the only console in history to get crushed by a single game.(Gears fo War anyone?) The game alone will sell more then PS3 getting shipped out and sold. 4 They told TOO MANY LIES about the PS3, making it seem so much greater than the 360, but now consumers see there's not a huge difference between the year old 360 and the new bluray PS3.
5 even more dificult to developer for then anything else known to man. J Carmack, renouned game designer said "the PS3 is a pain in the ___ to work with." He actually said that. The coding for Blu-ray is different than DVD and more exspensive, to develope for making profits a little less than for the Wii and 360.(Which do you think developers like more? Profits or Royalties and profits? Go figure.... and they are not the same. Royalties come from game sales profits come from making money of the publisher before it goes on sale. The publisher and or the console maker pays the game devloper to make the game then in turn pays the publisher back then makes money after that.) 6 A 25 gig PS3 game can still be done on a duel layer DVD9 easily its called compression techniques. Oblivion on the 360, PC is and can be a 200+hr game, and its only 3.48 gigs With HD graphics! Blu-rays right now take up too much unnessary space.(Once developers learn to use compression for blu-ray then I can see were this is needed.) But who is going to play an non-online 500 hr +game?
There's many more reasons why sony is not going to be number 1 this gen.
The problem with the xbox 1 was no games, this is not the problem with the 360. M$ has the games this time and SOLID sales numbers.(6.1 as of June this year,its probably at 8 million by now, M$ is deffinately going to sell 11 million 360s by the end of the year and NDP funworld thinks so also, which will still make it the fastest selling console in history sony is going to be playing catch up with the Wii never mind the 360. The 360 is unconcious right now and it still will be for the next 2 years.
