What game to start BioWare RPG's?

I never played any game by BioWare. I even have two gaming platforms (PC and the DS) that they developed on. I hear a lot of good-great things on their RPGs.

They have done work on two IP's I'm a fan of:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic BoxshotSonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood Boxshot

And the even made up their own IP's:

Mass Effect BoxshotDragon Age: Origins Boxshot

I even hear endless great things on what they do with their RPG's. Except for perhaps Sonic Chronicles. From what I hear, that game was "good BioWare RPG, terrible Sonic game". But anyway, if I were to start any BioWare RPG's, which do you guys think I should start out with?

More manga + AVGN's Castlevania 64 review + Burst Angel

Okay, I checked out more manga from the library after I finished Inuyasha volume one and Zatch Bell volumes one, two and three. While I couldn't find Inuyasha volume two, instead I checked out Rurouni Kenshin volumes one, two, and three (which are all in a Viz BIG graphic novel), Zatch Bell volumes four and five (continuing my Zatch Bell reads), and I even checked out two regular comics of Star Wars. They are known as Shadows of the Empire (same nameas the N64 game) and Visionaries, which contain comics written by the concept artists behind Revenge of the Sith. So yeah, I have a huge collection of comics to read.

I also saw AVGN's third part of his Castlevania special and he reviewed Super Castlevania IV on the SNES and Castlevania 64 (although it was just named Castlevania, sharing it with the NES title). It was a great review, until he started his review on Castlevania 64. Here is what's wrong with it:

***SPOILER***

Sorry, AVGN, but you messed up!

I also watched the first episode of an anime called Burst Angel. It's alright so far, but I can say what's wrong. The youngest girl in the group who looks about twelve who dresses like her older friends. What kid dresses like that? That's one of the flawsin the original Dragon Ball. The action sequences are cool though. I'll try to watch more episodes, the other beginning three episodes are on FUNimation's website. Hopefully it'll grow like Code Geass did.

See ya!

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time upcoming film thoughts

So you all know what I'm talking about, here's the trailer from YouTube.

I am a Prince of Persia fan, the first game I've played is the first Sands of Time, then I played the original (which was unlockable in Sands of Time). Haven't played Warrior Within or Two Thrones yet though.

Now about the film coming up, here are my hypes with some worries:

Hypes:

This is done by the Pirates of the Carribean film makers. Which means Uwe Boll isn't involved (Good, he screwed enough videogame series over with his films). Not only that, the first Pirates film was great (haven't seen two and three yet).

Jordan Mechner (Prince of Persia creator)has involvement in the making of this film. Last night, I also watched IGN's trailer rewind and one of the IGN staff members was interviewing him on what making the movie was like and what he compared to some of the Sands of Time games.

Worries:

A videogame based film. We all know how those are. The only ones I enjoyed was Mortal Kombat (the first one). Pokemon the first movie I enjoyed as a kid, although I'm not sure if my opinion would stay intact though (I haven't seen it in a while). The rest were just plain garbage. And I haven't physically seen some of them, so I had the Nostalgia Critic point out why these game films sucked (mainly with how he reviews them).

Disney is involved. They bought Marvel, they're showing Naruto on their channel. The only things good that come out of them are Pixar films. And I'm still hoping Epic Mickey is that good that comes out of them, including this.

So for me, it has a 50/50 chance of being good, or being bad.

Top Ten N64 games part 2

In case you missed my last part, here's a quick recap.

10. Pokemon Stadium

9. Super Mario 64

8. Star Fox64/Lylat Wars

7. Pokemon Stadium 2

6. Zelda: Majora's Mask

Now the finale of games:

5. Gauntlet Legends

Gauntlet Legends Boxshot

Developer: Atari Games Midway

Publisher: Midway

Also on: Sega Dreamcast and Sony PlayStation One

From my last blog (regarding how I miss this series), I explained a little on why this is my favorite Gauntlet game and why I slightly prefer it over Dark Legacy on the PS2. While Dark Legacy had more worlds and characters, while Legends had less. It almost sounds like it would be the lower version, but nope, it's the other way around. The two to four player coop is more fun, it's a little more trickier to get more worlds to open up UNLIKE Dark Legacy. The enemies feel a bit tougher and more challenging, and it's just mindless fun, which could probably be needed if you did a lot of brainwork. A superb beat/hack 'em up arcade sty1e RPG that's very underrated/underappreciated.

In case anyone is curious, I always play as the female Archer and/or the Valkyrie in this game.

4. Star Wars: Rogue Squadron

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron Boxshot

Developer: Factor 5

Publisher: Lucasarts

Also on: PC (known as Rogue Squadron 3D)

Never have I been this mindblown by a Star Wars game before I played this game. This is actually better than Star Fox 64 in terms of flying in spaceships. While Star Fox was an on rail shooter with some all range freedom of movement. Rogue Squadron is nothing but all range. The game felt like the Star Wars movies and even had a great story of what Luke Skywalker was doing before he was training with Yoda to be a Jedi Knight. Not only that, you got a huge variety of ships (X-Wing, A-Wing, Snowspeeders, etc.) and you can go back on some missions and play around with your new ships once you finished the game, such as using the A-Wing in the Tattooine mission.

3. GoldenEye 007

GoldenEye 007 Boxshot

Developer: Rare

Publisher: Nintendo

From about a year ago, I had a blog about my console killer app's. GoldenEye was a runner up to my number one, but after strict thinking, I docked it a level. Why? Don't get me wrong, GoldenEye is still one of the greatest movie based games off all time, also one of the greatest shooters of all time, and everything is intact (fun multiplayer, amazing controls, fun single player, etc) except for one thing: Graphics. It's less blocky than the character modeling in Star Fox 64, but due to the N64 Expansion Pak and this game's sucessor, the graphics aged quite badly. What is the successor?

2. Perfect Dark

Perfect Dark Boxshot

Developer: Rare

Publisher: Nintendo (N64 version)

Also (going to be) on: XBOX 360's XBLA (MS as publisher)

Also (currently) on: Gameboy Color

Why this game of course. More depth. Better multiplayer and single player. Better weapons. Better story. What else is there to explain? Well I can say that GoldenEye and Perfect Dark are king and queen of the console FPS. But in some cases, Queen > King. And this is the new runner up for N64 killer app.

The game introduced me to a new badass who happens to be a fave of mine, but... yeah let's move on.

The number one N64 game is...

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Boxshot

Developer: Nintendo EAD Tokyo Division

Publisher: Nintendo

Also on: Gamecube (LOZ collectors edition and LOZ: OoT Master Quest) and Wii Virtual Console

For me, this Zelda can NEVER seem to be surpassed. Engrossing story, great gameplay, and so many moments that make you feel speechless. Hyrule is a beauty to explore. And has a lot of variety, kid or adult. Many Zelda games after this tried to dethrone it, most tried and failed. While one didn't even try.

And that concludes my top ten N64 games. A list of a childhood icon, a legendary hero, two espionage agents, one for the government and one for an Institute that fights against corporations, arcade RPG heroes, space animals, and even Pokemon. So much enjoyment came to me all in one cl_assic console.

If you agree or disagree with anything, comment below or write a response blog, linking to both parts of the list.

My Top ten N64 games part 1

I was thinking about another Top # list of a subject and I decided to an N64 game list of my faves. And these are games I still play (I try my best to play all my games) and have fun. Not only that, the N64 is my favorite console of all time.

Here are my lowest five:

10. Pokemon Stadium

Pokemon Stadium Boxshot

Developer: HAL

Publisher: Nintendo

This was the first ever N64 game I've ever owned. I was very impressed with how Pokemon translated into 3D with amazing looking attacks and a fun multiplayer. This is also one of the first N64 games to utilize the Gameboy Transfer Pak. That way you can transfer your Pokemon from the Kanto games (Red/Blue/Yellow) to a 3D world and clear everything out. If you don't have a Gameboy Pokemon, the game was nice enough to let you select Pokemon from a "Rental Only" section, although you couldn't select two Pokemon that weren't on the roster until later in the game or until you got it transfered from the Gameboy game. It also has a four player mini game section, some are bad, while most are good. Overall, a great game.

9. Super Mario 64

Super Mario 64 Boxshot

Developer: Nintendo EAD Tokyo Division

Publisher: Nintendo

Also on: Wii Virtual Console

This was an N64 launch title, but I never really owned it on N64. So I played it on Virtual Console. Does that stop it from being the N64 game though? No. At the time, it was ******* amazing seeing Mario in a full 3D environment, and it still is. Now to be fair, I always thought it was Sony and Naughty Dog's Crash Bandicoot that was bringing the true step to 3D platforming, but after a discussion with someone on the forums and playing this a bit more to remember correctly, it really was Mario that took gaming into the true step into 3D. Not only that, you can not only jump on Goomba's, but you can Punch them. Not only that, so MUCH mission objectives in each world to add more gameplay, and it's fun to throw Bowser to bombs.

8. Star Fox 64/Lylat Wars

Star Fox 64 Boxshot

Developer: Nintendo EAD Tokyo Division

Publisher: Nintendo

Also on: Wii Virtual Console

Anyone remember in the SNES days when Fox, Falco, Peppy, and Slippy were just flying in 3D Polygons? Well, in this title they return in more detailed ships and environments around them. Not only that, this game feels more like watching an intense scifi movie like Star Wars. The dogfighting rules, great boss battles, and even multiple planets to fly through make it a great game.

7. Pokemon Stadium 2

Pokemon Stadium 2 Boxshot

Developer: HAL

Publsiher: Nintendo

A while back, I said in my "Ninty's 120th birthday" blog that the Johto series was my favorite of the Pokemon series. With this kinda came to no surprise that this was better than the first Pokemon Stadium. Better visuals, mini games, more Pokemon and even the ability to have not just Johto Pokemon transferable from the Johto games, but you can also transfer Pokemon from the Kanto games.

6. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Boxshot

Developer: Nintendo EAD Tokyo Division

Publisher: Nintendo

Also on: Gamecube (LOZ collectors disc), Wii Virtual Console

While strictly under a time limit unlike all the other Zelda games, this still had the Zelda charm nonetheless. Explorable world, fighting monsters, amazing story, etc. But what made this one is Link transforms again. This time he transform into a Goron, Deku, Zora, and another thing (I won't say) just by putting on a mask. Which reminds me of the Jim Carrey movie, The Mask. A lot of sidequests to do with the main quests really keep the game where Zelda is supposed to be in terms of greatness.

Stay tuned for Part 2. By the way, here are some of my other lists you may be intrested in if you haven't seen them:

Top five Nostalgia Critic episodes

Top five AVGN episodes

Top ten anime badasses part 1

Top ten anime badasses part 2

About Me

I've been a Nintendo fan since the middle SNES days. My favorite game then was Super Mario World. Now I'm really big into anime. My favorites are: Naruto, Inuyasha, and Zatch Bell. I'm also a huge sci-fi, fantasy, action adventure geek. My favorites of those movies: Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Harry Potter, LOTR, Frequency, and Transformers. I also like a few comedies. My faves of that are: Who framed Roger Rabbit?, Flight of the Conchords, and The Simpsons. I'm still a big gamer. My big time favorite games: Lego Star Wars 2 (Gamecube), Star Wars Rogue Squadron 3: Rebel strike (Gamecube), Starcraft (PC), and Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets (Game boy color). I also like stuff from Sony and Microsoft.
