She doesn't have the best voice in the business. She has never once said she's trying to compete with the best either. She's just a teenager making records because she can. Maybe she likes to sing, write, and dance ... who cares? When it comes down to it, all that really matters is what the music sounds like.

Like I said above, she needs improvements on her voice still, but that doesn't mean she's unlistenable. This is by no means meant for everyone. It's pop rock ala Ashlee Simpson or Avril Lavigne. If you're not into that then this probably isn't for you.

The good: Lindsay has co-written a lot of the tracks. Not only does the sound improve from her last record, but her vocals and lyrics as well. Her cover of Stevie Nicks "Edge of Seventeen" is surprisingly good. More personal stories in her lyrics such as in the single "Confessions of a Broken Heart (Daughter to Father)" and "My Innocence".

The bad: Her cover of Cheap Trick's "I Want You to Want Me" is numbing/boring. There are a couple of filler tracks such as "If You Were Me" and the title track "A Little More Personal".

Overall this is actually quite an acceptable album. I gave her a chance, unlike most people who decide to rate on either one song or worse, none at all. If people can't get over the fact that she is Lindsay Lohan, you have a lot to learn.

Sarah Slean Sarah Slean
""
Sarah Slean's self-titled EP contains a total of seven tracks of songs taken from "Night Bugs", "Blue Parade", and "Universe".

The one thing I absolutely adore about Sarah is her voice and her way with making the piano twirl with it so well. The way she creates songs is amazing. The bottom line is - Sarah Slean makes beautiful, wonderful, adoring, lovely music.

It opens with three tracks from her major release "Night Bugs". 'Eliot', 'Book Smart, Street Stupid' (the piano soft ballad that is breath taking beyond words), and 'Sweet Ones' (the upbeat jangling track).

Tracks from "Blue Parade" come next. Starting with 'High'. She SUCKS you into her music. She knows how to keep a listener interested. She is incredible on the piano. 'Twin Moon' really touches you. The music sinks in with heavy, dark music and her escape-airy vocals. This is my all-time favourite Sarah track ... its heart wrenching and melancholy atmosphere will set a tear in your eye.

Lastly, two tracks from "Universe". 'Me & Jerome' starts off with this vicious piano playing creating a mood. She sounds great on this track and the beat is captivating. Finally, 'John the 23rd' wraps up the EP. Another piano ballad-esque type song. Sarah sounds excellent as always and the music is kind of tragic.

People compare her to Tori Amos - gee, I wonder why - she plays the piano! Gasp! Sarah Slean has her own style, end of story. Definitely check her out if you're into that kind of music though because she's a treat.

Day One Sarah Slean
""
Sarah's second major production gives off the effect of sheer brilliance. I don't know if there is something about Canadian female song writers but they are amazingly creative and talented and always seem to blow everyone else out of the water.

With 'Day One', Sarah changes it up a bit compared to 'Night Bugs'. There are more instruments, unique arrangements, and witty lyrics.

Her voice alone will captivate you. She has this amazing range that will blow your socks off. She's incredible and for some reason, very underrated.

The CD is an absolute joy ride. It was done beautifully and perfectly. Although Sarah seems to keep stepping further and further away from the piano, it is still very much present in most of the songs. Put this on when you're feeling spontaneous or feel like dancing around like a complete idiot. It feels good with 'Day One'.

It begins with the kind of dark and creepy 'Pilgrim', Sarah showcases her range here. 'Lucky Me' is the single off the album and it's an upbeat, story telling kind of song. Lyrically one of her best. 'Mary' is simply beautiful, there are no other words to describe it. 'California' is longing, when you're listening to it you feel almost lost. The atmosphere is ridiculously touching. 'Day One' is a happy, uplifting song. Vocally, it's probably one of her best. You can hear her signature sound here. 'Out in the Park' is kind of sad, another story teller and drooping vocals. 'Vertigo' is a slower song, feels kind of depressing but the part where she sings 'terrible calm, terrible cold' - that's tragic. The guitar solo is creepy yet invigorating. 'When Another Midnight' is beautiful. Just amazing. 'The Score' is vocally and musically creative. This is a little different yet quickly becomes a listener's favourite. 'Your Wish is my Wish' is a piano ballad and sweet. Although it's not the best track. 'Wake Up' is another fair song. It doesn't match up to Sarah's usual talent. There is a hidden track that I'm unsure of the title. Whatever the title, it's really beautiful and delicious.

This is a perfect album for past Sarah fans and people who love female musicians or adult alternative. Fans of Tori Amos, early Sarah McLachlan, and early Chantal Kreviazuk will adore this. Sarah Slean is way beyond her years.

Night Bugs Sarah Slean
""
Sarah Slean's first major release album showcases nothing more than a spectacular talent singing original songs with one of the most gorgeous voices I've heard in a long time.

Many people like to compare her to other pianists, but Sarah Slean has her own style. She plays with a lot of different sounds, instruments, and vocal techniques.

One word to describe "Night Bugs" would be beautiful. The album is simply delightful to listen to. Crisp vocals, poetic lyrics, and flavour.

Night Bugs is refreshing. It's different and such an escape from what's playing on the radio. From the bouncy 'Sweet Ones' to the dark and doomful 'Me, I'm A Thief' - this album has a wide range of textures and skins.

The album features a lot from Canadian artist Hawksley Workman (who is Slean's brother). He plays instruments on each track and adds in some vocals on 'Me, I'm A Thief'. Definitely recommended for fans of Canadian music, piano music, and beautiful female vocal fans. It's a must listen.
