Although I never saw the Pixies in their prime, the band always had a reputation for putting on superb live shows. Listening to this album, you can understand why they had that reputation. Pixies' studio albums are always interesting, but tend to be more cerebral than visceral--listening to them, you think to yourself "that's interesting" without being blown away. This album will both intrigue and blow you away. The guitars are roaring, Black Francis bellows with reckless abandon, and everything works. Stand-out tracks: 1) The amazing cover-version of the Beatles' "Wild Honey Pie," perhaps the most unlikely song in the Beatles' catalogue to be covered by another band; 2) In Heaven, another off-the-wall track, and 3) Hey. I would recommend this album to those already familiar with the Pixies, but especially to those looking to make the band's acquaintance for the first time.
