I Actually Cosplayed, Sort Of
Yay, it's Halloween! Time to go get lots of candy! Well, not too much.
I was having a little trouble deciding on my costume for Halloween. I was originally going to be a pirate, because I could easily make a costume since I had already dressed up in it for Welcome Back. Then, my mom found these gray and blue pleated skirts for $2 each, thinking that they loked nice. When I saw them, I immediately thought of Full Metal Panic and Bleach. I wasn't sure if I should actually cosplay at all, but I had a dress shirt with a pocket, and I thought that being a pirate again would be boring.
I decided to dress up like a student in the school that the Bleach characters are from. It really does look like the girls' uniform, except I couldn't find pain white knee highs that fit, so I have ones with cherries on them. Also, the red bow is actually a hairband tied in a bow safety pined onto my shirt. It was fun, though only the anime club and my friends who like anime knew what it was.
Its raining here and there, but I think that trick-or-treating will still go on fine.
Oh yeah, I'm happy that I've finally went up a rank; I've been at level 8 for something like a year or so.
What to Talk About...
Well, I've been busy with lots of school stuff lately. We get a whole lot of English homework.. sometimes our teacher underestimates the time it takes us to do stuff as well as she wants us to, I'd say. Still, the class is interesting, especially this crazy debate we had over whether or not Shylock from The Merchant of Venice was guilty of pre-meditated murder. I got Shylock is not guilty, and our group consequently had every single guy in our class (AS English classes don't always have a ton of boys, anyway), and they were all pretty crazy in some way or another. The other team had some of the theatre zealots who love public speaking. So our team was pessimistic, but then some decided to really fight for it.
It was hilarious how it started out like a lawyer show and then ended up like a somewhat organized "Yo Momma" contest, over who could find the strongest points and quotes. There was actually shouting, and the lead presenters were right in front of each other, saying their proof. It got so tense that our teacher let us go outside in the middle and plan the rest of the "battle." There was 10 people standing up in our group, backing up the main speakers. In the end, our group defied the odds and won because Shylock never said he wanted to kill Antonio explicitly, and he lent Antonio money kindly.
I guess people who weren't involved might have thought we were total dorks, but it sure livened up the class.
This is the week of homecoming at my school. We've had some pretty good spirit days, except for toga day, of course, that's tough and awkward to dress up for. Today was opposite gender day, so I wore a big t-shirt, baggy shorts that were sagged with my PE shorts as boxers, some vans, and an Ash Ketchum hat. Yep, I wore an old pokemon hat to school, and put it on the side like gangsters around here do. I also brought a bulbasaur talking ball just as a joke. People really liked it, or at least thought it was funny. People were very into this spirit day in particular; kids love to make fun of the opposite gender. Some guys even had fishnets and booty shorts on. It was my job in Leadership to document this week, and today was a lot of fun, looking for crazy outfits. Even some people I wouldn't expect to do this did do it, and the guys looked funny in tight shirts with tissues in them. Maybe some people consider it inappropriate, but its just a joke, and people can get reprimanded if they do anything really bad. A guy did go a little far with his thong showing.

Well, you ask, why on a night were I have plenty of homework, am I hanging out here, which is something I rarely do on nights like this? Well, I have to be at school from 7 in the morning to 10 at night and miss school the entire day for homecoming, so my homework is generally not due tommorow. I'll get some done tonight, for I don't want to compound it over the weekend, but I just felt like actually visiting here for once, to check out things and take a break. I have to go to bed early, though. I thing I will at least get my social studies and math homework done today, if not the English journals, too. Other than that, there is only Spanish home wrk; really, I could do that quickly, too.
Oh well, I'm off to check out some forums!
Not Sure if I Like It
Hmmm, well after having tons of homework/school stuff, and not feeling like going on the Internet too much, I haven't logged onto here in a while. That's not good, but what's worse is that they changed the site around in a fashion I'm not all that fond of. I guess it looks kind of cool, but I thought that the old template or whatever it was went better with the idea of a tv site. This mostly white scheme feels kind of odd to me, but I guess I just have to get used to it.
In fact, I'm sure that we all have to get used to this new way. It definitely seems hard to access right now, for things are in different places, and somethings still need their bugs to be fixed, as I can already tell with my PMing problem. I've already seen a few complaints on other's blogs when I logged on.
Well, I guess that this will eventually become easier to access, but it does have a weird set up that I'm not sure if I like yet.
On other topics, school has been alright, but this week I was a little dizzy half the time, so boring classes and tests seemed worse. I think it being the weekend now may have helped ease this, for the moment.
School, With Pirates and All
Well, I've been in school for two weeks as a sophomore who can actually spell sophomore. For Leadership, we were already busy with our Welcome Back Dance/Rally in the first week of school, and publicly showing that our school has a Leadership class. Yep, our teacher made us wear our jersey for the entire 1st week of school. 5 days straight. Fricking weird, if I do say so myself. We got to be pirates with swords on stage during the rally. Instead of having a sword, I had an axe, because they ran out of swords. I did get to try jumping off stage in practice, onto a mat, just for fun. It kind of hurt, though. Some guys did it during the actual rally, and one got hurt pretty bad, but he's okay now. We had to be pirates at the dance, too. An alright theme, at least. Other kids seemed to like it.
Other than those distractions, the first two weeks of school have been alright. I've been getting used to how different the people in my classes are now. I was so used to have certain people in certain classes and not having people in others that it is quite weird now. Some guy I had 6/7 classes with last year I now have 4. Some other guy I had 5/6 classes with last year, I now have 2. Then these other two guys I barely had any classes last year, I now have all of them with them. Wow. P.E. is weird without my old P.E. buddy, and my other friends, but its not so bad, for I have other pretty good friends there. Physics has a good amount of "loud" people in it, so we'll have to see how that turns out.
It's hard to get to history class on time. It's so far away from the locker that I have to power walk up there. If you come in even one second late to that class, you get detention. Then I have to power walk to my next class, English, because I take the long way around to walk with my friend.
There's a lot of homework to come, I know it, and I'm still out of "thinking" condition. Guess I still need to get better sleep.
Overall, it's been actually alright to see my friends again, for people have had the summer to relax, and there isn't the end of the semester drama that there always seems to be. Even as a freshman last year, I noticed people get really, eh, pissed off, antsy, accusing, angry, etc. People seemed to cool down a bit. Well, I guess we are sophomores after all. I intend upon doing more things this year at school, so it doesn't get boring, or at least too boring. College is getting closer, I really did get bored last year. I need to make some changes, especially so I don't get walked all over.
Wow, I just blah, blah, blahed on there for a while. I suppose I should tell you something interesting. Hmmm, well my Spanish class is pretty funny part of the time, so something may come up in the future. It would be interesting to go to Spain with these people, if our teacher and parents permit it. Probably would make the Spanish say, "Crazy Americans, do they need to make that much noise?"
Next time, maybe I'll come up with something that isn't a rant.
Favorite Mangas
Well, just felt like ranting about my favorite manga. No real order.
~Fruits Basket~Lots of girls, even girls who normally aren't into manga, read this one, but it's for a good reason. From the summary, you'd probably be kinda apprehenhesive, but after a volume or two, you can tell it's going to be good, if not great. The characters are my favorite part about the sereis, for so many become so developed, and the plot makes more sense. Character development is awesome; at first Tohru didn't seem that great, but then things started to make more sense as the series continued. The drawing becomes quite awesome towards the end, and I am very interested in the last 3 volumes I have yet to read. Some things are too conincidental too often, but it usually isn't that big of a deal except in volume 20 for me (that's not really a spoiler, you know). I'm afaid to look up anything about it on the internet, because people may spoil it, even if I have an idea of how it may end, I don't know it for sure, or any of the details.
~Love Com~A light and goofy series that is whole lot of fun, but has some good messages that are shown pretty well. I like how its hard for the main couple to get together because of how much their personalities match. It's really funny, with crazy humor and lively characters. It uses typical cliches, but then takes them in another direction that manages to be different and go with the series well. It's nothing super deep, but it's fun. The drawing style fits it well.
~Ouran High School Host Club~It's crazy and has a weird summary (don't all of the 3 mentioned so far?), but it has some heart to it, behind the over the top humor making fun of the rich, hot guys that each fit into a different stereotype. It's funny how each of them hosts girls who have a certain fetish. The humor is so much fun to read, even if the authors style is unclear most of the time, and she has a bad time with the timing; she made the same year repeat itself starting in volume 9 so that Hunny and Mori wouldn't graduate and change things yet. That made me pissed; usually manga is better than American cartoons in such matters, but it's not horrible, because this is Hatori's first series over 2 volumes as far as I know. The characters actually do get developed pretty okay so far, except for maybe Hunny and Mori; those two too often seem useless, don't they, as if they both just fill a stereotype, but they do help with the wacky activities of a bunch of rich kids and a cross dressing commoner. Kinda funny its a reverse harem, but at least only half of the guys like Haruhi like that. I've been actually reading some fanfics, something I pretty much never do, because Viz isn't releasing the 11th volume until Nov, and the last one was releasedin Feb. Some are actually pretty good, but others are all about fan girl fantasies that are truely out of character (there was one really fantasising one about Haruhi dating Tamaki, but cheating on him with Kyoya, which was definatetely OOC IMO).I liked this one about the future, with the whole club being broken up, then meeting 10 or so years later in some coincidences, and serches. They made sense as more reserved, but still fairly correct in character. I think it was called "Never Saw You Coming" on fanfiction.net.
Dang that was a long rant on Host Club: I'm currently really into that one, for some reason. I guess I always get really into a few forms of media over the summer, but I think I will still really like this series during the school year. With all three of the ones I mentioned above, I have to wait for new volumes. Love Com comes out every two months, Fruits Basket every four, and for Ouran it varies, seems like every nine months, or at least six.
Dang, I used a whole lot of semicolons there! Guess it was truely a rant.
Those are just my top three. I guess it's kinda like
1.Fruits Basket
2. Ouran High School Host Club
3. Love Com
I like some others, but those are the only ones that I really can't wait to read; the others I can wait more patiently for. I like Full Metal Alchemist, Bleach, DN Angel, Rurouni Kenshin, and others that I can't think of right now. The problem I have with Rurouni Kenshin is that I still remember it pretty well from when I watched the anime, so it's kinda towards the bottom of my list because I still remember it fairly well. I kinda like how Slam Dunk is going so far, so I may read some more chapterrin the first volume. The drawings are awesome for having been drawn in 1990.
I guess I like shonen anime more than shojo, but I get more into shojo manga than shonen. I look at a line up of shojo manga, and there is more I want to check out than in shonen. Still, some I just totally am not into that people say are good, like stuff by Yuu Watasee; I just can't get into them.
Okay, enough random ranting for now. I got my school schedule recently. It's not too bad; I got AS Modern World History first thing in the moning, and physics last, geez. Oh well, I could have PE at either one of those times, and it would be a lot worse. English is 2nd and PE 3rd, good places, I'd say, especially with blockperiods, but I think that means that I would have my 2 strictly AS classes, English and History, on the same day of finals. Again, a pretty good schedule; I'm happy about PE, for its a good time, and the teacher isn't the one who makes you constantly run.
Okay, enough ranting for now. Probably more than enough especially with all of the semi colons
.
