Artist Review

Gif Hip-Hop
"Underappreciated"
With a strong use of true MC techniques, Gif has brought back a lot of old school characteristics flared with new school abilities. His flow is quite unmatched, and his lyrical content is just what the rap world needs now. His voice is a mix Pac's preaching chant and Common's nasal tone, which forms a uniqueness that is rare in today's hip hop world, a place where everything sounds the same. If Gif choses to fling lyrical abilities for the rest of his career, the sky's the limit for his legacy.

Eddie Meeks Hip-Hop
"Keeps it real"
With a fresh flow and a voice that could make Beethoven bounce his head, Eddie Meeks aka The Bitterdose hit his tracks hard with straight jaw-jumbling lyrical fire. His penchant for unusual beats seamlessly accompanies his distinctive voice, and his middle-of-the-line rhymes is reminiscent of such hip-hop greats as Kool G Rap and the god Rakim. Eddie's flow is similar to Del tha Funkee Homosapien, a bass-prominent tone with a drawl that probably stemmed from his southern origin. Meek's got maad talent, and if he keeps it up with the straight flows instead of following the poor course of today's "hip-hop" artists with materialism and misogyny, we might have a possible true MC on our hands. BIG UPS MEEKS!

Perfect

Album Review

Midnight Marauders A Tribe Called Quest
"Timeless"
Probably only rivaled to their own The Low End Theory and De La Soul's 3 Feet High and Rising for the most complete Native Tongue album, Tribe released a critical darling in 1993 when Midnight Marauders hit the stores. Everything about the album, even the intelligently mastered cover, represented the style and flavor of the already established group, and as Ali Shaheed's production blossomed over the course of three albums, Phife Dawg transformed from a doo-doo-rapping sidekick to a jaw jumbling MC. With Phife's newfound skills, Tip's everlasting tone and Shaheed's bass-thumping beats, Midnight Marauders became an instant classic, and can still be bumped from now into the future.

Album Review

Only Built 4 Cuban Linx Raekwon
"Masterpiece"
A serious contender for the title of best Wu-Tang solo album (rivaled only by the Genius' Liquid Swords), Only Built 4 Cuban Linx is also perhaps the most influential, thanks to Raekwon's cinematic imagination. If GZA is the Wu's best lyricist, and Ghostface is Shaolin's finest MC, then Raekwon is arguably their best storyteller, and here he translates the epic themes and narratives of a Mafia movie into a startlingly accomplished hip-hop album.
