Truth and Soul Fishbone
""
I love all of Fishbone's albums, but if I were stranded on a desert island with just one Fishbone CD, Truth and Soul would be the one I would want. It has all the components that make Fishbone one of the most incredible (and incredibly underrated bands) in history-- the ska, the reggae, the punk, the metal and the funk, ah yes- the glorious funk. But this album is jam packed with catchy, sing-alongable songs. Trith and Soul, along with being a genre defying musical masterpeice, is also a standout Pop record! This is Fishbone's third album and they really come into their own on this one and it's also before they begin a making heavy music in response to the unfair treament they recieved that the hands of their record company. I personally love the heavier, engier sounds of their later albums, but the songs on Truth and Soul are some of Fishbone's strongest. And, of course, i you ever get the chace to see this band live do not hesitate. They are one of the best live bands ever. Seriously, their shows are legendary!

Freakqualizer Honeycreeper
""
Honeycreeper's album "Freakqualizer" is a ska/funk/punk masterpiece (and they aren't even paying me to say that)! I had the pleasure of seeing this band at The Knitting Factory in NYC a few months back and it was the best $7.00 I think I've ever spent. I had never seen them before, but had several friends who had seen the band open for The Toasters at The Lion's Den a few months previous and they all thought Honeycreeper was great. So I decided to check them out for myself and I'm glad I did. I swear, after seeing Honeycreeper play at The Knit, I now know what it must have been like to see a band like Fishbone or Sublime back in the day before they were legends. The spirit of Honeycreeper's music and live show is the same spirit as either of these bands. And, thankfully, "Freakqualizer" captures the excitement of Honeycreeper's live show, with the clarity only a studio album can produce. While listening to this CD, the saxophone playing sometimes reminds me of Morphine. On an album full of awesome songs, standouts include a totally rockin' "5 Degrees of Me", reggae tinged "LandMind", the punk rock anthem "Procrastination Nation", the QOTSA-like "In The End" and my favorite- rock/ska mash-up "Insight of Blind".

To summarize: Honeycreeper rocks hard live and their CD Freakqualizer does, too. Definitely worth the price of download or concert ticket.
