So this finally happened

Yep, two weeks after replacing my PlayStation 3 and one week after sending back a defective Rock Band Beatles guitar, this just happened. I'm fairly certain this means I'm cursed.

Frankly, I'm just shocked it took this long to happen. The old girl was about three and a half years old. I guess this means I'll be upgrading to a slightly more Elite model.

That sucks. Has your Wii done this to you yet? I hear the 4.2 update may be bricking consoles.

I haven't had any problems with my Wii, but then again I don't use it terribly often--and not recently enough to have installed the 4.2 update.

The old PS3 stopped reading discs at 4 months old, at which point I got it fixed for free under warranty. Then the same problem happened again about 16 months later when the original warranty and repair warranty had both expired. Fun!

I have my launch 360 which STILL has NOT gotten RROD. I know it was on it's way out as I was getting disk read errors left and right, even with brand new games. I did a premptive $200 Elite purchase with mail in rebate, so I got HDMI, more HDD space, and still have a backup console

You gotta find a way to dispel this "curse" you have with videogame consoles, and quick, otherwise it'll probably claim your other consoles soon.

yeah, i saw the pic earlier and commented on it.

you're lucky...mine lasted somewhere between 50 hours and 100 hours...because i got the 50 hour achievement for the game but it died before i got the 100 hour one and it was the only game i had at the time.

Don't know if this is relevant, but it's worth noting that Sony are facing legal action after the release of the PS3 3.0 firmware update threatens the integrity of Bluray drives.

Dude, when I read your title in my tracked blogs, I knew it´d be a 3rl story, from all I´ve read on your PS3 experiences, Shaun. My first 360 was an Elite, so that model isn´t a sure bet against the problem, not for a long shot.

I know your pain, my 360 was just over a year old when it red ringed. I got mine back from repair a couple of months ago.

my 360 is about a year old, and i keep it vertical, for better airflow...and it keeps the discs from warping and scratching less

My case of RROD is weird. It happens but then after pressing the power button a few times it comes back on again. Then it will RROD. then repeat.

@edubuccaneer Yeah, I felt like this was just bound to happen after the PS3 problem the other week. It seems like these things almost always happen in waves.
