Brilliantly Evil
Well, it's been a while, and I still don't have much to blog about, but I did have a brilliant idea.
After randomly catching an episode of cassanova, I've decided I must watch that show. Also, I had a revelation. David Tennant, fantastic actor, god of screen and stage, and all round good guy, would make the perfect casting in a show that should be / is being, remade.
Yes David tennant should be cast as Kerr Avon, in blake's 7. if they ever get off their collective asses and make it happen, he would do the role justice.
Unfortunately, I don't they are planning a remake, but more of a continuation. hopefully though, we could see some of Avon from the "in between years".
anyways, it was an idea, and a chance to blog something.
coming up, pictures of a doctor who car!!!!

My Superhero show idea (copyright)
So, this idea has been playing in my head for ages now, and I'd like people opinions.
I was thinking about a superhero kinda like the greatest american hero. Just an ordinary guy, who has been blessed/cursed with powers that can save the world. The problem with this, is that in this case, his powers keep changing. Sometimes lasting days, other times lasting minutes. One day he can walk through walls, the next he can stretch his arms.
I was thinking it could be a guy or a girl. Also, this would mean that you could have almost limitless stories, as well as comedy and action at the same time.
What do you people think?

Wooo-Freaking-Fricking-Fracking-Frelling-Smegging-Goran-Who
Yes, that is the biggest and most versatile expression of excitement that i can come up with. the common, scrubs, BSG, Farscape, red dwarf, firefly, and Doctor Who.
Why am I so excited??? Because I just purchased the first 3 seasons of the new Doctor Who on DVD. And for an additional bonus, I got them at a chunky discount. Much happiness in my world.
I'll be spending a good chunk of my free time sitting down with my partner, and watching them all again. :}

Top Ten Reasons Why the old Doctor Who is Better Than the New
Don't take this list seriously, although somethings on the list are serious. It is mean for fun, and a bit of a laugh. And I haven't done my top ten lists for a while.
10: Wobbly sets : It's just not the same without the fear that the space ship the Doc is in might fall apart.
9: Costumes : Oh the bright clown suits some doctors wore, or the big cushion type costumes of some slime monster type things. Somethimes the costumes were as budget as the sets. The closest we've come to that was the Slitheen, in the SJA.
8: Companinions : It seems to me that in the new stories, companions start at the start of a season, and end at the end of a season (except Jack). In the old, they used to join up randomly, and leave randomly. Guess it's a contract thing nowadays.
7: The Brig. : Oh, I miss him. I don't know what more to say.
6: Anthony Ainley and Rgoer Delgado: The new master guy was funny, but he just wasn't "the Master"ish enough for me. Sorry.
5: Multi-episode stories : Sure the occasional 2 parter is good, and that one 3 parter, but I miss the days of the 4 or 6 episode stories. The cliff hanger endings that made it feel slightly like a bad soap, but you loved it anyway. And how one episode led in to next.
4: Locations : I feel that too many of the new stories are set on earth, with alot of those being set "now". Where are the gravel quarries?? Seriously, I know it's cheap and easy to set the show "today", but that isn't what this show is about!
3: The Tardis : That whole dark interior thing that's going on is a little gloomy for me. I like the change, but i think it needs to be a little less industrial, and a little brighter.
2: Companions : The only companion The Doctor has had, in the new stuff, that isn't from here and now, is Jack. 4 season, and we got 4 eps of a companion from future earth. I feel it's about time to change the dynamic a little.
1: Oh come on. The New stuff is fantastic. You really think I was going to bag it badly? New and old, both hold a strong place in my heart.
So, comment away, and let's look forward to a great final (2 part) episode of season 4. Where, the rumours are starting, there might be a sneaky, well covered up, character change. New companion? old one returning? Regeneration????? hmmmmm
Enjoy

Never leave M&Ms in a packet together. They will breed, and you'll have lots of brown ones. (think about it, there are more brown ones, aren't there?)
Nothing to see here. Move along.
I'm in the middle of, what could possibly be described as, the worst week of my life. I'm working nearly 75 hours this week, so you would think my free time would be precious, but no. I have to go to the dentist. Not once, or twice, but 4 times. :{
Well, actually, I'm seeing the dentist twice, and the hygienist twice. I suppose that's what happens when you have a phobia of both needles and dentist, and don't bother making your appointments for a few years.
Anyways. this week without the Doctor has been a little weird, and I've been hanging of for a fix so I've been watching some of my most favourite episodes for the last 4 seasons. It really is a fantastic show. But I have noticed that this season seems lower budget, and a lot lighter than the last few.
If you don't know what I'm talking about (highly unlikely) then go hunting for some Doctor Who from 2005 onward.

New Icon.
Finally got an editorship, although by default. Yes, I guess the last editor retired and handed it over to me, but i cant complain about that :}
unfortunately, this happened after i saw all the episodes made of this show. oh well. I'll take it anyways.
Rule for life #67: never look a gift horse in the mouth. it will bite you.
The sickest of the sick.
I'm not normally one to comment on current affairs, but last night on the news, I saw an article that shocked me.
The story was about an Austrian man who had imprisoned a woman. He locked this woman up in his basement, and regularly subjected her to sexual assaults. That's not too unusual in this world, but this woman was his daughter.
She was locked up at the age of 18. During her imprisonment she gave birth to 7 children. One child died, three were kept prisoner with her, and the man adopted the other 3 as his own.
This woman who has just been rescued is now 42 years old. She spent 24 years in a basement as a sex slave.
This is the worst crime I have heard of, and I personally think that there is no legal system in our world that can adequetly punish someone for this crime.
I'm sure most of you have heard the story already, but for some reason it's been playing on my mind. What can the world do to stop this from happening again.
And what can anyone do to repair the lives of 4 people that were stolen by a monster, who should have been a father.
Rule for life #1: Never do any thing like this.
Level Icons
I've decided that as i go up each level, I'm going to explain the tv related level icons to those people who don't know. this has probably been done before, but I thought it was a good idea.
Since I'm at level 18, that makes me a "Land Shark". I have no idea about where this one came from, so I'd appreciate some info.
Cheers.
I'm also planning to go back through the other levels and list them too, but I'll still have my rules for life, for my fans :}
Rule for life #235: Never underestimate how useful pants are. They have pockets to carry things, they keep you warm, they prevent you from getting arrested, and they can be used as a sail on a log raft if you get stranded on a small pacific island.
P.S. How many of you thought about lost just then? :}
Finally!!!!
Did that get your attention??? I think so.
Anyway, I'm bouncing off walls right now, as I have a brand new computer, with an extra 200Gb of hard drive space. The only problem with this is that I've installed the sims 2 for my girlie, and although it doesn't take up anywhere near that amount of space, it does take up alot of time.
Yes, I've been dragged into that world too, and it wasn't that hard. My first experience of the game was a pregnant man, with an alien baby growing in him. The baby was very cute when it was born. :}
I'm trying to resist the urge to play the game, and over the last few days I've done well. An with winter approaching, work will be picking up, and I'll have no spare time again.
Must go now. Workies.
Rule for life #662: Never follow anyone elses rules for life. Either make up your own, or believe that I am some sort of prophet sent to the internet to guide you to, ummmm, well, .... To guide you to where ever it is you need to go.
It's all been happening so fast, while i was supposed to be doing nothing.
I had two weeks off work, and in that time I really didn't get a chance to relax once. Some how I managed to spend all my time cleaning my house (which realy needed it) and my garage (which needed it more).
We managed to go out of town for a night, so I ended up driving over 800Km in 2 days, but still had a good time. I got to go for a walk up the steepest street in the world. (Yes, now you know where i went for my time off.)
I also ate far too much bad chocolate over easter. My parents are notorius for giving me the really budget stuff. And for those of you who think there is no bad chocolate, I still have a small stack that you are welcome to come and get.
To finish my time off, I won my ice hockey final last night. Well, I didn't win it, my team did. I really did nothing all season, except chase a puck around the ice. no goals, and only 2 assists. :{
That's all for now folks.
Rule for life #101: look before you leap. It's agood rule, it applies to so many things: swimming, crossing the road, high jump, and even sex.
Whoa!!!!
I've just gone up 4 levels in about 3 visits. Someone must really like me now. Whoever it is, thank you very much.
And because I have nothing else to say...

Yes, I've been away working hard and not really getting much done. So to repay my few loyal fans, I will do whatI said I wouldn't, and post a poem on my blog.

The deal is, that i want people to give me their impressions of what it's about. All feed back is welcome, and after enough guess, I'll let you all in on the meaning. Don't be shy, give it a whirl.
Inspiration Of Life
radiating from behind and through
light of life draws attention to
the fluid of dreams
not wet ones you fool
just taste
the cost is worth it, always was
never paid as child, and parents shunned it
I'd pay it now, but for lack of change
just metres away is my happiness
but out of reach.
locked
i know the key
circular and gold
and missing from my pocket
The dream is true as i recount
i walk the walk to talk the talk
and now i hold
that dynamic ribbon.
Nowplease don't nag me about my spelling and stuff, thanks :}

Spreading the word
Today, I let everyone in on a little secret. That secret is, that I fancy myself as a bit of a wordsmith, or poet. I enjoy writing and don't do it for any other reason than that. Recently a few people have told me that I'm quite good at it, so....
No, I'm not gonna post endless poems on my blog and ask your opinions. The opposite really. I'm afraid my work will be stolen if I post it on a website.
What I would like is help. Help in the form of contacts. If anyone has a contact in a publishing company, that may be looking for one or two pieces for a book, or maybe a new talent to promote, then maybe you could get me in contact.
I'm not overly keen on getting published, but a bit of extra coin would be nice, and enlightening a few people would be great. If you can help, or like to read one or two, then let me know and I'll see what i can arrange.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.
Higher Than Everest
Some of you may have heard, and some of you may not know who he is, but Sir Edmund Hilary passed away this morning. Sir Ed is famous as the first man to reach the summit of Mt Everest (although it may have been his sherpa Tensing Norgay), and for the humanitarian works he did in Nepal.
He was a great man, and inspiration to all New Zealander, and people the world over. He proved to everyone that one man can make a difference. He was humble and modest, and a very giving man.
I write this not to mourn the loss of a famous man, but to pay tribute to a friend. I met him a few times, and although he hardly knew me, would still find time to talk on the phone if I called, or sip a cup of tea with me when I visited him.
I urge everyone to read about what he achieved, as a person, and for a country. Read his story. Take it in, and think about what differences you could make if you tried even 10% as hard as he did. It has to start somewhere, and maybe it already has.
Sir Edmund Hilary. Sadly missed. Now he has climbed higher than Everest.
In the immortal words of the wicked witch

For those who don't know, I'm one of those people who is used to the cold, and over the recent season, I've had to deal with temperatures reaching nearly 40 degrees. For me, this is never nice, but each year I struggle through and relax into the coolness of winter.
Of course, the heat means it is uncomfortable to sit and watch TV, so I don't have much reviewing going on. I also cant be bothered sweating at a keyboard for blog posts, so unless the weather is cooler, I wont be posting more than about once every week or two.
Sorry to those few people who enjoy my humour and look forward to my pearls of wisdom. Oh, and speaking of pearls of wisdom.....

A curious question
It was recently brought to my attention, while enjoying the booty that santa gave me, that the new and the old adaptation of a certain Roald Dahl book, are somewhat different, and so I must ask.....
Why is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (new) mostly about Willie Wonka, but Williaq Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (old) mostly about Charlie? Yes, I do know that when they made the first one, they newver expected it to be made again, and things like that. Maybe I'm just thinking too hard about a pointless question.
Also, why are dreams crazier at this time of year, or is that just me?
Happy Moooo year, one and all, and give some randomness whenever you can.
Christmas songs top 10
Warning, this list may not be ten songs long. :}
I thought I'd do a holiday themed list. It's quick, simple, and easy, so there is no need for explainations. Reply with your own top 10, 5, or 3.
9: Bob Seger - Little Drummer Boy
8: Jose Feliciano - Feliz Navidad
7: The Jackson - I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus
6: Randy Brooks - Grandma Got Runover By A Reindeer
5: Royal Gaurdsmen - Snoopy's Christmas
4: Wham - Last Christmas
3: John Lenon - Happy Christmas (The War is Over)
2: Band Aid - Do they Know It's Christmas Time (the original)
1: The Pogues - Fairytale of New York
Enjoy, and merry christmas everyone. Peace!
My Top 8 TV Heroes (not animated)
8: Wonder Woman. She makes the list because she looks good and she flew an invisible plane. How cool is that?
7: The Tick. There was a live action version, i've seen it! and that's really enough to put the Tick on the list.
6: Steven (from the tomorrow people). I really liked that show, and the kid was cool. Saving the world and going through puperty at the same time, that's rough.
5: The Six Million Dollar Man (Steve Austin). What do i need to say about this guy. He always put his mechanically enhanced body on the line, just to save the day. Good man.
4: Batman. He makes the list because of his 2 amazing super powers. The first is, he was RICH! and the second was, the power to hit people and make cartoon action bubbles appear. (zap! pow!! and the like)
3: Peter Petrelli. He's a good man, trying to do what is right, but get's mislead easy. He is also the most powerful hero ever created, so he could really be a fantastic villian too. :}
2: The Greatest American Hero. Bumbling every day idiot get's super powers. Don't we all want that to happen to us? He struggles, as we all would, but still manages to save the day. Kudos to Ralph Hinkly.
1: The Doctor. Are we surprised? Do I need to explain?
Now make your own list for me. there's plenty of others, like Macgyver, Dark angel, buffy, and all those cops from CSI type programs :}
Have fun.
My top 6 TV mistakes...
This list doesn't include things like live TV, or sports events. It's just a little bit of fun. Maybe you should do your own.
6: Almost any of the sci fi remakes. They still really haven't managed to get them as good as the originals. There is one blindingly obvious exception. :}
5: Making TV in the 1980s. The fashion was so bad, and looking back, dated so easily on screen. Maybe we should have just left this era to the music. However, most of my favourite shows are from the 80s, and i laugh about the fashion, but enjoy the shows.
4:The Nanny. That voice was so annoying. And her laugh. Blackboard and finger nails are music by comparison.
3: Casting Macgyver in Stargate SG1. Yes, i know the actor is Richard Dean Anderson, but he was just playing Macgyver with a new toy (a stargate instead of a pocket knife). It's not like there were alot of obvious differences between the characters.
2: Casting John Crichton instead of Macgyver in Stargate SG1. See above.
1: Cancelling Top Gear. I'm not a car fanatatic, but this show was great! Yes, it's english, but so what? They sent a mini down a ski jump. They race a porsche against an attack helicopter. This show was entertainment, and they cancelled it. :{
Ok, that's it. let the rantage fly. or if you choose, make up your own this. This was of the top of my head, as i wrote it, so it is in no way definitive. With your suggestion, we could make a real list.
The weekend that was...
This message is brought to you by the phrases "you suck", and "not bad".
The reason why this weekend get a review is that i went to two concerts, and paid for neither. Firstly, Mr Justin Timberlake. Now, i know some of you will be jumping up and down and screaming "you lucky bastard", while others of you will be sreaming "why would you do such a thing?". I feel a need to explain this. It was free, and sometimes i put myself through torture, so i enjoy the good times more. JT was not bad. He was terrible. Eassily the worst concert i've been too. I was unlucky enough to watch a lip syncer prance around on a stage, while prostitues danced around him, and other people sang the songs. the lighting was not bad and the whole concert was just a big let down. I just don't get the people that scream and rave about him. Sorry justin, but you suck. 1.5 out of ten (because there was on girl he danced with who was not bad.)
the second concert was Muse. For those of you who don't know them, look them up, but i'll start with the opening act, The Checks. These guys are a local band from my home town that has had some success over in Europe. They are only just in their 20s and have already opened for bands like REM. They sound like a younger version of Led Zeppelin, with a bit more energy. They were pretty good, but their sound guy was not bad, which means they didn't sound as good as they should have. sorry sound guy, but that means you suck. 7 out of 10 for The Checks (2 out of 10 for their sound guy)
Muse, advertisedd as the best live act in the world, had energy, and movement, and soft songs, and hard songs, and everything a concert needs. Good lighting, and great sound, and stage presence too. They sounds like their CDs do, so that is a good sign that they are real musicians, but there wasn't any audience interaction. They just played, and hardly spoke to us. When you go to a concert like this, you expect to learn a little about the band in person, but no such luck this time. Muse was good, but when you are expecting "the best live act in the world", what you get is something that is not bad. 8.5 out of 10 for Muse
Really the highlight of my weekend was coming home and going to bed on sunday night. although the muse merchandise is pretty.
Next, Campbell live!
