Wow, I haven't posted in months! PD updates

Well, my last final was wed. the 10th so my dad came and picked me up and now i am back in baker for winter break. i have been over at the pd pretty much everyday. nothing that cool happened until today, we are in the breakroom eating lunch and dispatch comes on the radio and tells the officers they have 'information' and proceeded to say there was a house fire right down the road from the pd. it was cool to see everyone hightail it to their cars. i asked if i could go and chief said i could so i hopped in the CSO's truck and we pull out of the driveway and about 2 blocks away you could see the fire trucks that were already there. the 3 police vehicles had to do traffic control. so i got to wear this bright orange reflective vest and direct cars. sad part is neither the cso or i had hats jackets or gloves and it was about 7f degrees outside. (that would be -13c for anyone outside the states.) sergeant drove by us and let me wear her hat (she's so nice ) and poor cso didnt have anything. after a couple mins she was like 'if you wanna run back and go get your coat you can. just grab mine too' lol. so i ran back to the pd and grabbed our stuff and then ran back (literally, i was running.). then after a few more mins they let us go back home. seems it was just a small wall fire in someones house, no one was hurt so thats always good.

and later i shoveled part of the parking lot because there is just too much snow here!!! lets see, what else. oh, i did a ride last friday with officer b and we didnt get one call the entire night (although we did find some people misbehaving on our own so its not like we didnt do anything). i am going to try and do a ride tonight, have to wonder over in about an hour to see if someone will take me (and who could deny such a magnificent person? lol). then i am doing a ride on friday (during the day) and i have one set up on the 23rd as well. ill see if i cant get some more before i have to go back to school - for my last quarter of my college education! i graduate in march!!!

so, i think that is it for now. im hungry and therefore i am going to go take care of some business with the microwave and leftover pizza

i got kicked by a horse...

so my friend and i went out to go riding today and while we were moving one of her horses out of the round pen and putting the other in, hers spooked, which made the one i was holding spook and pretty much plowed right through me. thank God i stuck my hand up because as she ran by she kicked and got me square on the right elbow. It freaking hurt!! and while im on the ground i can feel my fingers going numb and getting all tingly and im just thinkin 'this aint good'. but when i went inside and stuck my hand under the water, i realized the finger pain was because i got a rope burn. but anyway, theres a scrape on my elbow from where the hoof got the skin and its a little bloody, but dry now. and there is a big a$$ bump, bigger than the size of a golf ball, on the inside of my elbow. freakin sucks. and its turnin all black and blue, too. it kind of looks like a have a tumor on my elbow lol (not that tumors are a laughing matter, because they arent, but.. yeah.)

i can move it and rotate it around so i dont think anything is broken, unless a little part got chipped off or something. but my fingers move pretty slow. its like when you've been outside in the cold for a long time and then you go back in and as you start to warm up your fingers are real slow, or if you've experience a 'dead arm' where someone knuckles you between the mucsles and everything feels real slow and heavy for a little while. yep, its like that. i should take some pictures and post em for ya'll to see. its gnarly.

well i went over to the pd and showed chief and our receptionist and they were like "looks like it hurts." and im like...'uh, duh.' and i go back to show our CSO (who we both agreed that we would go running together everyday at 3:15 until i go back to school) and she says "you shouldnt run today, i can go alone." and i go "i got kicked in the elbow, not the leg. i can still go." and i did, im such a trooper after the run, cso and i went back to talk to the serge and she was like, and i quote, 'for sh!ts sake! that thing is bigger than your boobs' haha. then she asked me about 5 different times 'lemme see it again' lol. she particularly enjoyed one angle where its just freaking huge.

both her and chief were examining it and trying to grab it and im like "back away from the elbow" haha. freaking chief was trying to poke and push to see if it hurt when he did that, which it did and i made him stop. he told me to put some horse linament on it. but i dont have any so i put ice on it but then my freaking hand started to go numb which i thought was wierd because the ice was on my elbow, not my hand. so if it gets any bigger or hurt more tomorrow, im prolly gonna go see the doc. i probably should have gone today but, meh. i figure hes just gonna say take it easy and ice it, which im already going to do anyway and i dont need to pay to have someone tell me that. so if i ever decide to quite being lazy and dig out my digi, ill take some pics and post em. toodles.

got to see my first duii last night!

i did another ride along last night w/ officer b. it started out in the squad room with the serg doing briefing. there was a person on day shift who had threatened suicide by cop so she was informing the night guys on what the deal was. appearently they have a very large rifle so i decided to chim in "can i wear a vest tonight?" (referring to a bullet-proof vest) and the serg goes "well i dont know where the extra vest got to" "the CSO was wearing it yesterday, its probably in her locker since she didnt put it back in your office." serg looks at me "no, you cant wear the vest." (then i think i growled at her, or at least gave her a mean look. lol) then officer h said "that vest wouldnt help you none with the size of gun they've got anyway." then after they finished briefing and serg was about to leave she looks at my driver, points at me and says "she doesnt get a vest. you guys be careful and keep her safe. make sure you show her how to unlock the guns and use the AR." (im thinking 'saweet'! lol). so we get going and officer b showed me how to use the gun and stuff, which was pretty cool. all i has to do was hit the gun lock button on the control panel, pull it out, cock it, and pull the trigger. though she did tell me to make sure i dont shoot her, just the bad person. lol. but guess what? we never even actually got a call on them so nothing even became of it. (at least last night, might be a different story later on down the road).

our first stop was someone they had some pc (probable cause) on and wanted to make an arrest. we drove to the vacinity of the house, turned off the headlights as we were driving up and parked around the corner. i had to wait on the corner of the street while officers b and h went to go make the arrest. i was so excited!! then they came back about 30 seconds later cuz no one was home. major, major bummer. so we actually spent quite a bit of the night trying to figure out where this character was, they obviously knew the cops were after em so they laying low for a while.

now ill tell the story of the duii (driving under the influence of intoxicants). we were out on one side of town conversing with officer h when dispatch comes over the radio "drunk driver at such and such street" both cars hit the gas and were driving to the other side of town. dispatch had a person following the drunk driver so they were updating the location as the person was making turns. i think we were doing about 50+ in a 25 mph zone. hehe (but not too many people out on the road that late at night). officer h got behind the car first and pulled it over. i got to go up to his car and watch him conduct the FST (field sobriety test) on the driver while officer b stayed back at her car. well, turns out the driver was pretty freaking old! like - on the verge of 80 - old! and officer h only got to do the 'follow my pen with your eyes and dont move your head' deal on the driver. he asked if they wanted to do the 'walk the line' portion but driver declined due to just getting new hips not too long ago! lmao! so he put those pretty silver bracelets on em and took em to jail. i got to go with officer h on that part just so i could see how the rest of the proceedings go and that was pretty cool. although i didnt get to stay with him when we got to jail, i had to go to the control center and watch on a camera. but it was a good experience none the less.

i did pick up a new nickname last night. officer be so sincerely called me 'spanky' lol. (and she also called me some other things, too. but that ones the coolest ) well, all in all it was a pretty awesome night. i'll keep you guys updated on my next ones. but right now im still really tired so im gonna go take a nap. g'night

unicell/verizon- i need some answers

so, i use verizon and i hear they just bought out unicell. does that mean everyone who once had unicell will now be verizon members or are they still going to keep them at two different companies? im hoping they merge them because lots of my friends here in town have/had unicell and we text a lot. but i have unlimited to only verizon members and 500 to other networks. so basically my question is:

can i text my unicell peeps and have those under the 'unlimited' category or are they gonna go under my '500' category??

i suppose i could call verizon but i dont wanna be on hold and this way i get points. hehe.

Getting hit on by drunk people just makes my day!

Last night i did a ride along with officer b. we go to a 'noise complaint' where the person on the top floor is stomping around his apartment and annoying the people below. first, we park outside the apartment complex so we can sneak up the second floor and catch the noise-maker in the act. we can hear a guy cursing pretty loudly so b knocks on the door and says its the police dept and we need to talk to you. a younger guy answers the door drunk off his skunk and lets us come in. turns out b knows the guy so for about 7 whole minutes, she is talking to him trying to calm him down when all of a sudden its like he finally sees me standing next to her. he goes "who is she?" and b says "this is joie, she's my ride along" then he leans in a little, squints at me and goes "shes fckin fine!" and b is like "hey, hey, she doesnt need to hear that." meanwhile im trying my damndest to not laugh my butt off, they started talking again and then he randomly goes "how old are you?" i looked at b, then looked at him and said "21" and he stares at me all dumbfounded and goes "so...you're of age?" "yeah" "you're fckin fine!" and b's like "hey! what did i just tell you?" and then they started talking again. he lays down on the couch and he's telling b "i dont have anyone, i only have you." then he looks at me and goes "and her! she's fckin fine!" (and by now, i dont think its that funny anymore) then he has the liquid courage to say "you know, my wife's gone." well by all means let me just strip off my clothes and we can get it on right now! lol. (and for some reason i just couldnt fathom why his wife was gone...) so after we were there for 15 mins or so, we're trying to walk out the door and then he asks "where does she come from?" (i kinda wanted to blurt out 'my mom's uterus' but didnt know how well that would fly) but b spoke up first and said "washington" the he goes "me too!" im thinkin, 'oh, thats great.' lol.

we finally get back into the car and the first thing she says to me is "he off limits or you're grounded." haha! my response, "don't worry!"

the night of vampires, chupacabras and mausoleums; a patrol story

Ok, here's another story from one of my ride alongs. its a pretty good one, too.

Im on a night ride with officer cuteness (im just gonna call him that cuz he is ). i hadnt done one with him yet but i had met him once and he seemed like a pretty cool guy. so i go over to the pd before it was time to go on patrol and officer c(uteness) and officer z are the two that are patrolling for the night. but their shift hasnt started yet so they were just kind of waiting around for the big hand to hit the 12. well, apparently those two are quite the movie fanatics! they were reciting lines back and forth to each other from the Princess Bride movie! i was effin rollin on the floor laughing so hard! those two are a freakin riot! haha

so the night shift officers have some daily duties. they have to lock up the park bathrooms, the cemetery, and do the dark house list. i asked cuteness if we could do the cemetery and park and give z the dark house list. he was fine with that so when it came time, we drove out to the cemetery and we get to the first gate and he goes "ok. see those trees over there?" "yeah" "ok, you go walk that way and i'll meet you on the other side." im thinking "holy crap! i dont think thats rutine procedure. z didnt make me do that last time i was here" so i just looked at him and said "are you serious?" he goes "yeah." then he started laughing and said no. haha. im so glad he was kidding because it was dark and those trees were like two football fields away! plus, the other gate to lock was to the left, nowhere near the trees!

so we go driving through and he tells me that those bushes that are shaped like a heart is where all the little kids are buried. we drove over there and got out to go look since i hadnt ever seen it before. when we walked to the other side of the bushes, there is a big vacant field and i was shining my flashlight into it and i see this reflection in the light. i was like "dude! look! do you see those eyes?!" he saw them and the thing started moving but it wasnt coming towards us. he's like, "well, if its a cougar itll come closer because they tend to be curious." it dissappeared so we shut off our lights and walked a little ways back then whipped around real quick to see if we could see it again. we saw the eyes again, but we couldnt see the body at all. we just declared it a chupacabra and went about our business. lol.

next came the mausoleum (its like a tomb if you arent familiar with the term). there is a big tree right outside of it and cuteness goes "so what would you do right now if a big vampire thing came jumping out of the tree, hissed and bared its teeth, then flew off?" (what a wierd question) "uh, call in Mulder and Scully?" haha. so then we walked up to the door, he grabs the knob and its unlocked and he goes "you know, i was really hoping this thing was locked." lmao! so we went inside and there are no lights so its pretty creepy. these people who are in there arent under the ground, they are pretty much just stacked up on top of one another so they go up high, about two stories or so. at the far end we noticed something had spilled on the floor and there was some kind of strap lying in it. i think it went to a bag or something. but there was a closet next to it and cuteness thinks this looks a little suspicious. so he pulls out his gun and opens the closet, extremely prepared, and there was some kind of pantry looking thing in there too so he opened that just in case as well. no one was there, but it was kind of an intense moment. of all the rides i've done (9 total) no one had to pull any kind of weapon (be it oc spray, asp, or gun)! but after that we decided it was time to be on our merry way before our imaginations started to get the best of us. lol.

later when we caught up with z, i told her all about our chupacabra. she's like "you know there is a little fox that is living out there, right?" fine. whatever. throw ants on my picnic, blow up my parade floats, why dontcha just punch me in the gut while your at it? lol. ah well, it was fun while it lasted

so thats my cool story. i had one of the best times on the ride along! next wednesday or thursday im going with another officer i havent ridden with yet. z tells me she's one of the funnest because she absolutely loves her job and she's really funny to boot! i cant wait

Should I let her spray me??

The CSO (community service officer) was trying to talk me into letting her pepper spray me. I said no. then later we were talking with officer H and the subject got brought back up again and officer H was trying to talk me into letting the CSO spray me. i still said no. then i went home and pondered for a while and i eventually made up my mind that i would let her do it. So the next morning i informed her she had my permission, but we had to be prepared. I needed to take out my contacts and we needed to have an unlimited amount of water available for me. She got very happy! haha

So we said we would do it at 2:30 yesterday after i took the truck in for an oil change, well right as im leaving she texts me and says "the chief wants to talk to you before we do it" so i said ok and i was on my way back. when i got there i talked to the chief and he just looked at me like i had 3 heads. lol. i said "what? do you want me to sign a release first?" and i was joking, then he goes "kinda" and im like "oh snap!" haha. he informed me that the stuff they use is over 2x more potent than the regular stuff, but it has a quicker recovery time. and he wants us to do it over by the fire station where the medics are, just in case.

So here's my dilemma, I told the CSO i would let her do it and i dont want to back on my word (besides i kind of want to see what its like. i have seen some utube vids and it looks like it sucks, but when you're a police officer, someone could spray you and you have to know how your body reacts and you need to fight through it).

CSO also said that she would spray into a bucket and just stick my face in it rather than squirting me (oh, how thoughtful of her. lol).

But also, when you go to the academy, you get squirted when you first go in and again before you leave. you also get squirted before you go on duty with the pd. so thats a total of 3 times i HAVE to be squirted. Should i go ahead and make her day (and the rest of those saddistic officers who want to watch) and endure the unnecessary and unpleasantness of pepper spray??

please give me your thoughts...

i saw a dead body...

On July 21st, i saw my first dead body. ever.

i used to think it was no big deal, especially if i didnt know them. its a natural occurance and everyone is going to die one day or another. i've seen horrible pictures (check out rotten.com) and watch CSI and im not queezy at all when it comes to that stuff. my cousin and i actually caught a fish, gutted it, and i held its still beating heart on the tip of my finger without having any saddening thoughts. but on monday, it was a whole new ball game.

our CSO (community service officer) at the pd was determined to let me and my stepmom see the body (my stepmom is the evidence technician, so she needed to know how to extract the urine and blood anyway) even though the M.E. couldnt get to it until later. she made arrangements for us to get a tour of the funeral home/morgue and we were on our way. i told my dad what we were doing and he have me some mint tobacco thingys that are in what look like miniature tea bags to stick up my nose for the smell, so i brought them along. i was actually kind of excited at first, a whole new experience for me and i would be able to test myself to see if i could handle it in real life. we went into the autopsy room and the mortician and our CSO were showing us the tools and stuff they use, etc. and i was totally fine with it. then he went to the back room to bring out the body. i kinda started to get nervous a little bit, then when he opened the door and was wheeling the body out on the gurney, i was like "no freaking way." i could make out the outline of the body and i kept thinking to myself "oh my god, there's a dead person in there" over and over again. i was so rattled on the inside i cant even describe it. i realized no amount of CSI or SVU or ER or any of those acronymed shows could prepare you for what i was about to see. the mortician unzipped the first body bag, then a second and holy crap. i kinda wanted to run out of the room but my feet wouldnt move. my eyes were pryed open and it would be a safe bet i was as white as a ghost.

(due to confidentiality reasons, i cant tell you what the gender was, what their condition was, how it smelled, etc) but i can tell you it was graphic, quite horrifying, and i should have used something stronger than mint tobacco! our CSO gave us some advice before hand, she said its best not to look at the face if you can help it, and if you need to look at the face, dont look at it in the eyes. thank god the mortician went easy on us, he only unzipped the bag down to the belly button. i really didnt want to see the whole body. i just saw from the middle of the nose down. and i think what got me the most was when the mortician was unzipping it, he made the body move. not the whole thing, but just part of the cheek and the nose. the little movements you can control when you are alive. to this day i cant get the picture of the movements out of my head. when i visualize it, thats all i see.

it was a weird few minutes for me. i wanted to run away, be held/comforted and investigate the body all at the same time. of course i just stood there like my feet were cemented to the floor and just stared all bug-eyed at the body and tried not to breath in too deeply.

he finally zipped the body back up and put it away and we left after a few more minutes of chit chat. the CSO and my stepmom were talking about it the whole way back and im sitting in the middle of them keeping my mouth shut and then the CSO says "joie, are you okay?" i just looked at her and said "yeah." i didnt know what to say to her. i didnt know what to say to anybody. i didnt know how to express what i was feeling. i didnt want to seem like a wimp, but later we all talked to the chief and he said he would be worried if i didnt feel something. so guess what guys, im normal. lol.

so that was my first experience with a deceased person. i kinda never want to have the experience again, but going into policing, i know i will. and seeing as i didnt barf or scream, i think it will get easier as i have more experience. but until then, i will revel in not seeing dead people.

and to give you guys an idea of how frazzled i was while he was about to bring the body in, here's a funny little exerpt between me and my stepmom...

Her: "hey, do you have anymore of those little mint things?"

Me: "yeah."

Her: "Can I have one to put in my mouth so i dont taste anything bad?"

I offer one to her already in my hand

Her: "dude. Did you already stick that in your nose?"

Me: "yeah."

Her: "then can I have another one?"

Me: "oh. Right."

lol.

well, i will say so far it has definitely been a summer to remember!

the US is effed.

the us women's nat'l soccer team is screwed!

"U.S. Women's National Team forward Abby Wambach suffered a mid-shaft oblique fracture of the tibia and fibula, the two bones that make up the lower leg, in a 31st minute collision with a Brazilian defender during the USA's 1-0 victory tonight and will miss the 2008 Olympics.

Wambach was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital where X-Rays confirmed the fracture in her left leg. She will have surgery tomorrow morning to have a titanium rod inserted. She will be on crutches for several weeks before the leg is weight-bearing, at which time she will start rehabilitation. Injuries of this sort usually require a 12-week recovery (ussoccer.com).

yeah, i know soccer isnt a 1 man team, but i am inclined to say that since brasil was playing without Marta, Daniella, and Christiane last night, we would be screwed with Wambach, too. (marta is like the female version of pelé and ronaldinho. if you dont believe me, just look her up on that one website. be prepared for your jaw to drop.)

its just pretty sad cuz i enjoyed watching wambach play, she's phenomenal in the air! and for those who dont know, she's played in 127 int'l matches and scored in 99 of them. thats not too shabby!

without some of our seasoned defenders (leslie osborne and cat whitehill who are both out due to ACL tears), markgraf had better take charge and mitts better keep the cards at bay. we NEED them in the game. Llyod, shoot your heart out, kid! wagner, i know your recovering from a double hernia, but give it all you got. Solo, your amazing, just keep em outt the net (please). as for the rest of you, i have faith, just keep control of the ball, talk till your blue in the face, and capitalize on your set plays just like you always have.

I got to play CSI for reals!

So on my ride along i did on sunday, me and officer Z went to a call for criminal mischief. when we got there, some people had thrown a beer can through a workshop window and there was another beer can outside the window too. we collected some evidence (both cans, some shattered glass, etc) and took them back to the pd where z got out her fingerprinting kit and we set up shop outside the building (the fingerprinting dust gets everywhere!). it was the real fine black powdery stuff you see them use on CSI and one of those little feather dusters! haha. i didnt have any gloves on so i didnt get to do it myself, but i watched Z do it and it was pretty neat-o! we couldnt lift any distinguishable prints off the cans or glass though, so we were kinda SOL. but she said people who do that stuff usually brag about their 'conquests' so pretty much they just have to ask around and can probably get a friend to roll over on the one(s) who did it. ill let ya'll know what happens

and side note: she was asking me if i had any bfs at school and i was like no, and she goes "girlfriends?" and i was like, umm, no. haha and she says, "cuz its cool if you like the girls." and im like "no, im a pretty big fan of the male gender" haha. but it was funny cuz she says people think she's gay just because she's an officer and she's not. but later she had to drop me off cuz she had another rider going with her and she said i could come back later in the day. she didnt know how long he was going to be with her so i gave her my cell number so she could call me when he was done. then when right before i left, this is our convo

Z - "well, i hope i dont bore him to death."

me - "im sure he'll have fun. i had enough fun to give you my cell number "

Z - "haha. yay! i got another girls cell number! geez..."

it was pretty comical good ride. cant wait to go on another one

(oh, and my step-mom is taking some african drum class and she is practicing out in the living room. So help me god if my future children ever want to play the drums! lol)

7p-7a ride-along

So wednesday night i went on a 7p-7a ride-along. usually i dont stay the entire 12 hour shift, but i wanted to see if i could do it, and i did. i even took a 3 hr nap so i wouldnt get tired too early. yeah, i was tired around 10:30. haha. the evening started out pretty fast-paced, but slowed down around 10ish, i guess. we went to a call that a dude had a crow (the big black bird) tied to a tree by some bailing twine. well, when we got there, we started talking to the RP (reporting party) first and you could just smell the alcohol coming off him. then we walked over to the neighbors yard who supposedly had the crow and he met us at the front gate. he was such an a$$! he did admit to having a crow in his backyard, but said it was not tied, we asked to go take a look and he wouldnt let us on the property (which is fine, its his right) and so the officer goes "well, this gentleman over here says the crow is tied to a tree" and the guy (who i was standing about 4 feet away from and i could smell his B.O. stench so strongly it was nastly!) says "well, suppose i saw him smokin a bong" and all this crap. long story short, we went and looked at the crow from the neighbors yard and it was free to go but didnt look like it could fly because it was just hopping around on the roof and talking alot. so we left. and there was a bunch of other stuff we did too but i dont feel like typing it out.

today me and my dad and step-mom went and got our third load of firewood. this was the most difficult one yet! we had to park the truck about 50 yards away and roll the stupid mo-fo's (pardon my french) to the truck because they were too heavy to carry! i did carry one about 15-20 yards before it started jabbing into my hip bones and causing some undesired pain so i threw it down. i would guess the lightest one weighed about 100 lbs, all the others weighed at least as much as i do (and more!) and i weigh 115. it really freakin sucked. there are no words to describe it. (hmm, maybe a face. ill go with lol)

tomorrow should be better. im going on another ride-along with a different officer i havent been with yet. its probably gonna be kinda boring because sundays around here, the city (if you can call it a city...) is like a freakin ghost town! lol. oh well, she said that if its boring, we'll create some fun. (but i dont know if thats a good thing or bad...hehe)

but i hope ya'll are having a good weekend. mine should pick up in about, oh, 16 hours or so

We got another drinker on our hands!!

So, it's official. IM 21!!! (as of june 6th, so im a little late w. the post, but oh well).

For my birthday my dad, stepmom, and i flew down to Lake Tahoe and stayed at the Hyatt Hotel on the water. it was pretty cool! but we didnt actually go down specifically for my bday, on the 7th it was my great-aunts 80th so the entire family was there! There was some family members i had never even met before. haha. it was pretty cool, i think there was 30 of us total. but on saturday, we went to this place called the Thunderbird Lodge and took a tour (it was this guys who had lotsa money and died and donated his place to the preservation society), there were underground tunnels, his own private beach, and a boat from the 1939 thats worth over 3.3 million today! it was flippin sweet!

my cousin was there and she had turned 21 2 months earlier so we were gettin our drink on that friday night. it was great. i think the drink of choice for the weekend was a vodka cran (vodka and cranberry juice) although i did jack my aunts fuzy naval at one point. lol. But my very first legal drink in my very first bar was bought by my grandpa. it was a mojito (got my inspiration from ellen degeneres, haha) and it was good!

so pretty much im diggin the being 21 thing but not diggin the "can i see your ID" part. i think i got carded about 6 times or so over the weekend. but i guess its a small price to pay (and everyone tells me ill appreciate the looking younger than i really am thing when im older. haha) oh, and i never threw up! i was quite proud

but now im back and i have to go find a summer job. ugh. oh well, at least ill be able to join the co-workers for a drink after a long day on the job

Leica and SVU to team up!

I also posted this in the "you know you've seen too much SVU when..." thread but im only 4% from being a level 10er, so im puttin it up here, too

In my forensic skeletal analysis course (because i cant say cla$s...) today, we had some guys come in from Leica and demonstrate how a ScanStation2 works. (its the 3D imager you see on CSI) Well, this one guy was saying what shows its been on and he listed CSI, A&E, and then he goes "it was also in the season finale of Law and Order: SVU. did anyone see that?" oh man, lemme tell ya, my hand shot up in the air faster than you can say 'balls in a blender'!! haha. and then later he used SVU as an example again talking about how when lake, kralik, and krane (well, he didnt say the names, he just said 'the guys' lol) were moving around and leaving the shell casings, the SS2 can imager can help portray what happened. and at the end of ****he also said (and he was looking right at me when he was saying this, too) that Leica is in negotiations with Law and Order to have the SS2 become a regular

Here's the site if you wanna check out what they were using. it was really cool, we had our own mock murder scene set up and they scanned it and put it up on the projector. i should have worn my CSI shirt today (only because i dont have an SVU one to wear...yet )

sprinkle(r)s??

It is now the middle of May, and with May comes the sprinklers. I normally wouldnt have a problem with this, however, the morons who set the timers have them going off between 6 and 7pm all over campus. This is prime time for dinner, my friends. So every evening when my roomate and I decide to make the trek to the SURC for dinner, we have to dodge between 8-10 rotating sprinkler heads spouting off water from the irrigation ditch (which is pretty UNtransparent, by the way, and has so much nasty crap in it that if campus PD finds you wading in the waters, they will give you a ticket because its so bad for your health!). Sometimes, when im in a lively mood, i see this as a fun obstacle course. Other times i view it as an annoyance because more often than not, i come out wetter than i went in.

Why dont they just set them to go off during the night? That way the water has a better chance of going into the ground instead of being evaporated by the sun and heat (its been in the 90's the last couple days here -thats 32+ for all you non-USers) and i can walk to dinner without fear of getting drenched!!
