Bad Luck with Electronics

I seem to be having a run of bad luck when it comes to my electronics collection. First my desktop succumbs to a virus and I'm stuck with a hand-me down laptop that's on it's last legs, my cat once again gums up my Dreamcast's open button, and now my 360 has lost it's video output because of one of three things

1. It was damaged in the recent power outage we had yesterday

2. It has finally succumbed to my cat walking all over it and shedding on it

3. A virus in an update or faulty part

The only positivie note is that I now have an excuse to buy one of the 2009 360s, which I've bee wanting to do for a while now

Perfect Ending to an awful week

And I thought things couldn't get worse after getting into a fender bender this afternoon, well I found out what could make things worse: my cats, messed up my favorite console, my Xbox360 and caused an E68 Error, and this isn't the first console they've messed up: they gummed up my Dreamcast's power and open switches, caused Red Screens on my Jaguar, knocked cables on nearly all of my consoles loose, and they've even knocked my 360 over. Fortunatally things seem to be running fine at the moment, I unplugged and reattached the hardrive and it seemed to clear the problem, but I've now lent thought to possibly getting a second 360 as a back up just in case

Gamespot's All Time Greatest Hero Contest

This is probably nothing new, and I'm not trying to sound like a sore loser, lately I've been feeling like the whole thing was rigged from the start to guarentee that either Mario or Link would take the top spot, even though there were far better characters (Gorden Freeman, Kratos, Master Chief, Cloud, and Ryu Hyabusa for example) on the list. The whole contest has lately been giving Mario and Link a free ride, despite the fact that many of their games tell the same story over and over again, reusing the exact same plot. While I say congragulations to who ever wins in the end, it's not right that Mario or Link be given free rides in every contest just because of their legacies.

First Horse Show

I managed to score a spot on my University's Horseback Riding Team a few weeks ago, and today I had the chance to compete in my first ever Horse Show. While I felt I could do better, I still managed to do pretty good, winning two third place ribbons and a fourth place ribbon for my three events, hopefully I can do better in the competition up in Wilmington in October.

Nintendo Famicom

Well I finally did it, with the help of one of my friends I managed to track down one of the holy grails of Nintendo fandom, the Nintendo Famicom, better known to North American Gamers as the Nintendo Entertainment System. The one thing that surprised me the most about the Famicom is thatit WORKS in North America, with out requiring adaptors. Now all I need to do is track down somemore games.

Finally I can get a PS3

With the annoucement of the PS3 Slim and the 299 dollar price tag, I can finally buy the last console I need to complete my console collection, the Playstation 3. I've been after one for a long time now, but as always the price tag has been what's stopping me from buying one. I just hope it comes out soon, I've been wanting to play Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 and 2, MGS 4, MAG, Uncharted 1 and 2, God of War III, Killzone 2 and Resistance 1 and 2 for a long time

Review for GI JOE: The Rise of Cobra

As of August 7th 2009 two of Hasbro's big three toy brands have made the transition from toy to beloved cartoon to live action summer blockbuster. The latest outing is of course GI JOE: The Rise of Cobra. Unlike the first Transformers film, which can be seen as a reboot of the Transformers Series, the very title of the GI JOE film is a dead giveaway that it's ment to be a prequal to either the comic books or the TV Show, and the result is a mix between the GI JOE Toys and the James Bond Series.

The main plot of the film focuses onthe story of Conrad "Duke" Houser and his friend Ripcord and the outbreak of the war between GI JOE and COBRA. Unlike the previous GI JOE Film, Rise of Cobra catches Duke at the beginning of his career with the GI JOE Team, which has been expanded to include troops from numerous nations, and his confrontation with the ghosts of his past, while the subplot traces the transformation of Destro's MARS Industries into COBRA.

Fans of Destro will be pleased to know that their favorate character finally gets his chance to shine, as he is the main villain, although sadly he doesn't recieve his trademark metal mask until the end of the film. Destro's plan is to unleash three missiles, loaded with nanomite warheads that are capable of destroying an entire city on the capitals of the US, China, and Russia, as revenge for the humilation of his ancestor, in the 17th Century and the belief that the people of the world will turn to him in the after math of his attack. Assissting Destro in his plan are fan favorite characters Baroness, Storm Shadow, and the mysterous Doctor (the future Cobra Commander) who's actors take their roles fairly well.

While the film is over all excellent, with lots of action, and numerous fight scenes between JOE and MARS/COBRA Operatives, Rise of Cobra has distanced itself from the cartoon, comics and toys in numerous ways. The biggest change is that for the first time in any incarnation of GI JOE, Baroness, Cobra Commander, and Destro are refured through out the film by their REAL names as aposed to their code names, and for the first time fans see what Cobra Commander and Destro look like beneath their masks.

The film has also altered many romances and backstories for some of the characters. For example, in a flash back scene showing the origin of the feud between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow it is revealed that Storm Shadow killed his own uncle in a jeoulus rage after his uncle declared Snake Eyes a better student, as opposed to his uncle being killed by COBRA. However the biggest change in terms of backstory is that instead of the big romances being Baroness and Destro, Duke and Scarlett,or Snake Eyes and Scarlett,it's Duke and the Baroness and Ripcord and Scarlett. In this film it is also revealed that Baroness and Cobra Commander are in fact Brother and Sister

Of course the biggest altering that the film does is to Cobra Commander and COBRA. The biggest difference is that unlike the cartoon COBRA's Vipers actually have backbones and are portrayed as nearly unstoppable killing machines who are more then capable of holding their own against the best the JOES can muster,as opposed to a group of weaklings who panic and run at the first sign of trouble. Also unlike the cartoon, Rise of Cobra shows that COBRA and Destro's MARS Industries are infact one and the same, where as in the cartoon they were seperate with Destro selling arms to COBRA.

Of course it's the Doctor/Cobra Commander who deserves the biggest mention. Unlike his cartoon and comic book counter part, who's origines varies from an alien nobelman disfigured by a lab accident, to a used car salesman blaming everyone but himself for his own failures, and who as COBRA's leader is prone to fits of rage and is usually the first to retreat when things go wrong, this verson of Cobra Commander is a former US Army Science Officer driven completly insane by his passon for science and the injuries he suffered in an airstrike while on a mission in East Africa. Like the Cobra Vipers, this verson of Cobra Commander also has a backbone, and is capable of instilling absolute fear in his followers. Unlike his other incarnations, this Cobra Commander can best be described as a mix between Hannibel Lector and Dr. Frankenstien. He is amonster in ever sense of the word, a mad scientist who subjects people to horrific experiments often for his own amusement, including brainwashing his own sister and planting a bomb in her skull, which he claims he did out of love for his sister. However the biggest dissapointment is his uniform, which is black/dark purple instead of blue, and his mask has been completly redesigned. Had they kept his trademark featureless silver mask,he would have been far more intimidating.

Over all Rise of Cobra is a welcome addition to the GI JOE universe, and like Revenge of the Fallen it's ment to be fun, an escape from the world and all it's problems, and since this is the origin story maybe we'll see the JOE-COBRA War escilate in a possible sequal, and have the appearence of more fan favorite characters like Maj. Blood, Firefly, Bazooka, and Gung-Ho

Please Let the PS3 Slim be True

I've been after a PS3 for a long time now, but like always the price is just too much. I hope the rumors about the PS3 slim are true, and the price is a lot cheaper then the current models because I really want to get my hands on MGS 4 and the Resistance Games

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Review

For as long as I can remember Transformers has been a cultural icon, spawning numerous toylines, comic books, TV Shows, and most recently a series of hit movies, the second of which, Revenge of the Fallen has stormed into theaters with mixed reviews, loved by the audiences who have seen it, but slammed by movie critics. Having just seen the movie this past weekend, I feel it is time for me to write a review of my own.

Overall Revenge of the Fallen is a fantastic edition to the Transformers Universe, the film marks the return of many of the characters from the first movie, and introducing new characters, including fan favorite Decepticons Soundwave, Ravage, and the Constructicons and their combined form Devistator. However the biggest new character is the Fallen, the only remaning member of the Orignal 13 Transformers and until this point had only appeared in the comic book: War Within Dark Ages, making his TV/Movie debut.

Plotwise, the movie is typical Transformers. Picking up two years after the end of the first movie, the Cybertronian Civil War continues to rage across the cosmos, and threatens to spill over into the Human World. To make matters worse, the Decepticon leader, Megatron has been resurected by the Constructicons and has begun his quest for revenge, under the direction of his mentor, a former Prime known only as the Fallen, who seeks to unleash a devistating weapon capable of destroying the Earth's Sun. However during the course of the movie, the film makers made the mistake of rushing through the plot.

One of the best things they did, was making the Human Characters a lot more realistically and helpful then they were in the orignal cartoon, showing everything from understanding the Autobots purpose on Earth, protecting all life, to fearing them and blaming them for bringing their war to Earth. The film also makes the Autobots a lot more three demensional as well, hinting at tensions between some of the Autobots, particuallry Ironhide, and their Human Allies. However in the climatic battle, we see Humans and Autobots fighting side by side against an advancing Decepticon Army, something that was rarely if ever shown in the orignal cartoon.

Through out the course of the film, there are two scenes that are particuallry well done, the first being the Death of Sam Witwicky, who is critically injured by a shell burst from Megatron and his meeting with the Ghosts of the orignal Transformers. While not as emotional, as the original 1980s movie, Revenge does a fantastic job of recreating the 80's movie's most infamous scene: The Death of Optimus Prime, showing him fighting single handedly against a horde of Decepticons, only to be stabbed in the back by Megatron, this scene also shows just how cruel and ruthless Megatron really is, because the first film showed that Megatron and Prime were brothers, and the idea that Megatron would destroy his own brother in his quest for power and in service of his master shows just how far Megatron has fallen.

However, one of the most disappointing moments of the movie occurs during the climatic final battle, which is probably the best scene of the movie, showing Human Armies, the Autobots, and the Decepticons engaged in a full on battle royale. During the battle, Optimus Prime, having been resurected, unites with the wounded Seeker Jetfire, in order to confront the Fallen. The entire battle feels as though it was rushed, instead of a three on one brawl between Optimus, Megatron, Starscream, and the Fallen, Megatron is knocked out in the first few minutes, and Prime defeats the Fallen, who through out the entire movie is played up to being a vicious and amazing warrior, in the space of a few minutes, with out taking any damage himself.

All in all, Revenge of the Fallen is probably the best film so far this year, and probably one of the best Transformers movies ever made, with lots of action and suspense to keep the audience entertained, and will most definatally please many fans of the Transformers series.

The Passing of Michael Jackson

I know it's been a week since the King of Pop's death, I've tried for a long time now to express my thoughts on the end of an era, and the loss of an icon.

In many ways the only good thing that has come from MJ's death is that his suffering is finally over. Every time I saw one of his videos or saw him on the news I couldn't help but wonder if this was simply a cover for a man who was running from his past, or trying to have the childhood he lost so long ago.

Here was a man who was on top of the world, and looked as though his story and legacy would be one of triumph, instead he was reduced to a laughing stock by the media who saw fit to publish any news about him, be it true, rumors or out right lies. In his later years, I can't help but feel that the world was taking pleasure from MJ's pain, and that we wanted him convicted simply because he was rich and famous, not because he was guilty or innocent, and now I can't help but wonder if we're shedding crocodile tears, because we no longer have Michael Jackson to make fun of.

The saddest part of all of this is that Michael was never able to reconcile with his father, his ex-wife,or his brothers, and in a sad way he died as he lived:aloneand misunderstood.

Project: NATAL

I've been wanting to write about Microsoft's upcoming Project NATAL for a while now, but I've been trying to do so in a way that doesn' make me sound like a fan boy. From what I've seen so far of NATAL, the concept has potential, but I still have my doubts, and NATAL has raised a few questions in my mind.

1. Price: From what MS has shown of NATAL at E3, it looks like something that may carry a hefty price tag, until the actual price is annouced, this question is still up for debate.

2. Games: This is another thing that has thrown up a red flag about NATAL is how MS will deal with the 360s game library. NATAL has the potental to greatly improve 360 fighting games like Street Fighter IV and MK vs DC Universe, but I also wonder if they will pull a Nintendo and release a completly seperate line of games, designed to specifically to work with NATAL, similar to what Nintendo did with the Zapper, Power Glove, and ROB the Robot .

3. It's been tried before: In real life, my area of expertise is in History, and on the side I study the history of Video Games and three companies have tired NATAL-like devices in the past:

Atari had the Mind-Link, an unreleased controller for the 2600 that would've interprited the movements of the player's head muscles into game commands http://www.atarimuseum.com/videogames/consoles/2600/mindlink.html

Sega had the Activator, an octogonal shaped controller that used infrared light to interperate the player's movements, which required it's own power adaptor, instead of being powered by the Genesis/Mega-Drive itself.

Nintendo of course had the Power Glove and the U-Force, both of which rarely worked, and required complicated codes in order for every game, and the Power Glove required recalibrating and recentering when simply changing a program for the game you were playing.

Of corse this is just my opinion.

Wrong Game

I'm starting to get really ticked off when it comes to Gamestop, first they sell me a defective copy of Warhammer 40,000 Fire Warrior, and yesterday I went in a bought a copy of Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, however when I got it home it turns out they had given me the WRONG GAME!!!!!!! Instead of Sons of Liberty I got MGS 2 Substance. While many say just keepSubstance, here's the thing I've already got a copy of substance for myXbox. Thereason I'm ticked is because I payed for Sons of Liberty, and that was thegame I wanted, and this is the second time Gamestop has given me the wrong game.

My Favorite Video Game Series

I figured it might be fun to post my personal favorite Video Game Series, keep in mind these are my own opinions.

7. Ninja Gaiden (Multiplatform): I've always loved martial arts films, and Ninja Gaiden is one of those series that does a great job captureing the feel of a martial arts movie. My only real complaint is the difficulty is out of control, some fights area strole down easy street whileothers are like running headlong into a brick wall, and some fightsare extremely unfair toward the player,(example: inNinja Gaiden Black: Facing off against two tanks and a helicopter gunship armed only with a bow and arrow)

6. HALO (Xbox/Xbox 360): While most tend to like HALO simply for the Multiplayer, I usually play it for the Single Player Experence, since I'm a huge fan of big epic science fiction stories.

5. Street Fighter (Multiplatform): I'm a big fan of fighting games, and Street Fighter's decent controls and fast speed make it one of the best series, however my biggest complaints are it's setting: The Real World with some fantasy elements and the lack of blood

4. Castlevania (Multiplatform): Growing up I was raised on old horror movies, and the Castlevania series captures the dark gothic atmosphere of those old horror films, and also does a great job expanding on the original Bram Stoker Novel.

3. Mortal Kombat (Multiplatform): Once again, I enjoy Mortal Kombat's blood and gore,I personally findinserting the blood makes it more realistic, i.e. if you compete in a realno holdsbar martial arts tornament you're more then likely going to getbloodied pretty badly. Unlike Street Fighter, which is all over the place with it's story line,Mortal Kombat has a single coheren storyline, and a dark more fantasy like setting.

2. Any World War II Game (Multiplatform): My grandfather was a World War II Veteran, so that alone explains why I love World War II games so much

1. Star Wars (Multiplatform): What can I say, I absolutly love anything Star Wars related. Star Wars is often seen as the definitive Science Fantasy Series, and many of the Star Wars video games do a great job expanding on the Star Wars Universe

Titanic: The Legend Goes On Review

Back in 1997 the one movie on everyone's lips was a little independent film known simply as Titanic, but what few people known is that there is actually a second Titanic Film, released in 2001. But where as James Cameron could fill a money bin worthy of Scrooge McDuck with all the money and awards Titanic would go one to earn, the 2001 Animated Titanic Movie: Titanic: The Legend Goes on, would fade into obscurity. How obscure, I had to download the entire movie off of YouTube, just to prove to myself it was an actual movie and I've studied the Titanic Disaster from top to bottom ever since I was a kid, and I didn't even know it existed. But after seeing it all I can say is this: OH....MY.....GOD......WHAT A TRAIN WRECK. This film is so messed up, you'd sware that you were watching Titanic done by Disney while they were channeling the spirit of Ed Wood. So what's wrong with this movie? All I can say is that when your movie makes every movie made by Uwe Boll look like Oscar material you've got problems.

The animiation is probably the only thing this film got right (somewhat) it's bright, colorful, and actually has a lot of detail, specifically when it comes to the backgrounds, and the CGI replica of the Titanic is probably the highlight of the movie, since it actually looks like the real Titanic before her sinking, and that's about all I can really say that is good about this film.

The first major problem this film runs into is plot, because there isn't one. Instead you are treated to three different storylines, complete with scenes that seem to occur out of order or are reused time and again. The main storyline is pretty much the plot line of the original Titanic movie with elements of Disney's Cinderella and Anastsia added in. This storyline revolves around Will, a wealthy first class passenger who is traveling to America with his Nanny in order to start up a buisness, and Angelica, a poor orphan who is traveling with her stepfamily, who have basicially reduced her to a life of servitude, while she dreams of locating her long lost mother, and how the two fall madely in love with each other at first sight, while Angelica's stepfamily attempts to keep them apart.

The second storyline revolves around a gang of Jewel Theives and the Detective, who I sware looks and acts like his only experence in law enforcment is reading the Shurlock Holmes Series and mystery stories found in old pulp magazines. This story arc is probably the funniest, because the gang are obvious rip offs of Cruella DeVille, Jasper, and Horce from 101 Dalmations, and obviously don't possess a brain cell between them. In one scene they all break into the same cabin, and when the lights accidentally go out, they end up beating each other up, while emerging empty handed.

The third storyline is by far the worst, it revolves around Angelica's Talking Animal Friends, and their attempts to retreave a golden locket that Angelica lost before boarding the Titanic. These characters are by far the worst and obvious rip offs of everything from Looney Toons to An American Tale, but the worst part about this storyline occurs at the beginning of the movie, where one of the dogs, named Fritz, actually breaks into a rap song, complete with boombox, shorts, jersey and side waise baseball cap (last time I checked this was suppose to be set in 1912, not 1997). The primary focus of this storyline is two fold, retreaving the locket Angelica lost, and preparing for a party, which includes sending a mouse who apparently can't tell the differnce between the pipe that leads to Ship's First Class Galley and the pipe that leads to a Ballest tank, to get some of the food they need for the party.

While you expect these three plot lines to cross at some point, I hate to break it too you they don't, not even when the ship strikes the iceberg and begins to sink.

Another major problem is the dialogue, which is filled with clechie lines, and offers little to no character development, half the time, especally in the dubbed versons, the voice actor's speech and the animation in a particular scene don't sync up. Another problem is that many scenes appear to be scattered all about, and as a result the dialogue makes no sense. For example, in one scene William encounters a Fireman who had just come up from a flooding boiler room, and inquires what's going on before asking how to get to the third class areas in the bow. The problem though is that the Fireman only says "you'd better get a lifebelt on" after it's clear William has gone, and the animation used, is the exact same animation that was used in the opening of the scene, where this line logically belonged.

However, what makes this film such a trainwreck is how it handels the actual disaster, the Titanic Legend is all but unrecognizable, with the only major character from the actual disaster being Captain Edward Smith. Nearly all of the major players in the Titanic disaster, including First Officer William Murdoch, Wireless Operater Jack Phillips, Assistant Wireless Operater Harold Bride, The First Class Orchistra, The Californian, The Carpathia, the Straus Family, Thomas Andrews, and J. Bruce Ismay are either not present at all or have been drastically altered. The worst alteration has to be to Titanic's First Officer, known as Striker in this film, who is portrayed as an arrogent jerk, who appears to be concerned more with his own rank and self preservation, then his duty astheTitanic's First Offficer, resorting even to throwing aside other passengers and crew so he can get into the lifeboats, when in reallity Murdoch was in charge of the Starboard Evacuation and ultimatly lost his life in the disaster. Another blunder concerns the Lifeboats, all of which appear to leave fully loaded, as opposed to nearly empty early in early stages of the sinking, while the last lifeboats left fully loaded, or were capsized as the ship sank, with surivors clinging to them. Another major blunder on the part of the production crew is the song used during Titanic's final moments. Instead of Nearer My God to Thee, which is the song everyone associates with the Titanic Disaster, the band, lead by a fictional singer named Molly, as oppose to Wallace Heartley, plays "Holding On" a song written specifically for the movie. However the greatest insult is that at the end, you are given a scene showing William and Angelica marrying and living happily ever after. Not once during the epilogue is there even a passing mention of the 1,523 passengers and crew who went down with ship, nor do the end credits dedicate the movie to victims of the Titanic tragedy.

Over all this film is not only terrible, it's a direct insult to the Titanic Disaster and everyone who died or lost a loved one that night. As a movie I would say it's suitable only for hardcore Titanic buffs, and fans of bad movies.

Malfunctioning RF Adaptors

If there's one thing I hate, it's RF Adaptors, they clutter up the back of your TV, and worse they're prone to malfunctions. I have two RF Adaptors that are starting to malfunction the one for my Sega Genesis and the one for my Xbox. The first chance I get, I'm replacing them with AV Cables.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li Review

I'll be the first to admit, that the new Street Fighter Movie caught me off guard, after the disaster that was Street Fighter The Movie (1994 and staring Jean Claude Van Dame and Raul Julia in his second to last role (the 1995 drama Down Came a Blackbird was the last film Julia would make before his death) it looked as if no one would touch the franchise with a ten foot pole. Well, I finally got a chance to see it today, and in my opinon the results were mixed.

Legend of Chun Li is essentually a prequel to the Street Fighter games with the plot essentually telling Chun-Li's origins. In terms of the film itself, Legend has a far better cast, and marks the return of Robin Shou (who played Liu Kang in the Mortal Kombat Films) as Chun-Li's mentor Gen, and sticks closer to the backstory outlined in the games, specificially Bision infusing the good half of his soul into Rose and the murder of Chun-Li's father at Bison's hands. Unlike the 94 film, in which Balrog is portrayed as a camera man, and a good guy, Balrog is portrayed as Bison's right hand man, as well as his chief enforcer, also differing from the 94 film is that Bison's organization: Shadaloo is presented as a Mafia esque Terrorist Group, as opposed to a country/city. One of the biggest improvements though is M.Bison himself, specifically in his portrayl. In the original film he was seen as little more then a deranged General with delusions of grandure, in Legend though, his portayl is that of a sadisitic monster with no remorse, who kills and tortures the innocent for his own amusement, while at the same time mansqurading as a swave saphistocated gentelman.

The fight scenes are also far better corographed then Street Fighter 94, and many special movies such as the Haiduken actually look like how they are portrayed in the game. However, in all of the major fights (Chun-Li vs. Vega, Gen vs. Balrog, Gen vs. M. Bison, and Chun-Li vs. M. Bison) the character's special moves are rarely used, had they used the special moves more often, the fight scenes could have had a far bigger impact.

Story wise is where the movie falls apart though, the primary plot of the movie is taking down Bison and Shadaloo, however it is told from two points of view: Chun-Li's and Charlie Nash's. The story is also where Chun-Li's character differes from the game. In the game Chun Li is an Interpol Agent, seeking revenge against M. Bison for the Murder of her father. While revenge is still Chun-Li's motive, the film portrays her as a wealthy concert pianest who over time transforms into a Batman-esque vigilantie working for the Order of the Web.

Over all Legend of Chun-Li is a vast improvement over Street Fighter 94, but it still falls short, owing to it's cleche story line, lack of special moves, and the lack of fan favorite characters like Blanka, Ryu and Ken. However many people chose to lable this a bad movie, simply because Kristin Kreuk doesn't look like the Chun-Li in the Video Game. However, the Chun-Li in the video game is simply a drawing created in a developer's mind, and it's impossible to find any actress that looks exactally like her.

Sega CD Review

In the annals of Video Game History, there have been numerous failed consoles, but one of the most well known is the first of two add-ons developed for the legendary Sega Genesis: The Sega CD. Much like the Jaguar, the Sega CD, while a bad console, or add-on in this case, is a tragic console. Like the Jaguar the Sega CD had lots of potential to make a killing, but it was ultimatally done in on account of bad management and a game library that was flooded with enough Z-Grade FMV games that you'd think Sega was channeling the spirit of Ed Wood when it came to the Sega CD.

Unlike it's 32X counterpart the Sega CD is actually the better of the two Genesis add-ons. There are two specific models, the Model 1, which is a frontloader and fits nicely on the bottom of a Model 1 Genesis. The Model 2 is the more common of the two Sega CDs, and is a top-loader similar to the Sega Saturn and Playstation 1, and attaches to the sides of a Model 2 Genesis. The Sega CD also had a first, that many consoles would later copy, an internal hard drive to which games could be saved. The add-on's black finish and rounded design fit rather nicely with the Genesis's own sleak design. The CDs are fairly easy to insert, however they tend to be rather loose, once placed in the console, but this also makes the disks easy to remove. The Sega CD does have a very flimsy feel to it, but despite that it can hold up rather well, but like all disk base consoles, the Sega CD is sucepitble to Disk Read Errors brought about by dirt or damaged disks.

However, the biggest drawback to the Sega CD, and one of the primary reasons for it's downfall, is that it's an Add-on vs. a stand alone console. The result of this is that the Sega CD is acutally very expensive, since it requires the purcheus of a Genesis console, and from what I'm awhare of, the CD model 1 will only work with the Genesis Model 1 and the CD Model 2 will only work with the Genesis Model 2.

The Sega CD's Game Library however, is one of the worst ever put out. For a console that was capable of producing gems like Sonic CD and Sol Fece, having a library that is made up of almost entierly of interactive movies and FMV based games is inexcusable. With the exception of games like Sonic CD, which use in-game graphics engines, the Sega CD's FMV/Interactive Movie based games are nightmares, with many cut scenes long enough to warrent an intermission and a trip to the refreshment counter, and offer very little in the way of actual game play, much of which is simply point, click, and then fall asleep while watching some of the worst acting in history, and the FMV graphics are down right attrocious, with the footage taking up about 25% of the screen, and is so badly pixilated it's almost unplayable.

Despite it's flaws, the Sega CD has it's place in history as the first commercially successful CD-based game console, as well as being the console that introduced internal memory to consoles, and when compared to the 32X, the Sega CD actually has a decent sized game libary. However with a game library that is flooded with some of the worst games ever produced, the Sega CD is a console that should be given some thought too before deciding wheather or not to buy it.
