Resident Evil Part 2/My Second Year Anniversary
Well, it's my second year anniversary. Just two years ago I created my account on this site, a time that feels so long ago. I remember getting started with the SpongeBob SquarePants forum (and what do you know, that's my current forum), with my original icon of Slade from Teen Titans.
![]()
Gee, that seems so ancient, especially now that I have recognizable icons like Kurama, Near, and L. But it was my first icon... aside from the default puppet.
But anyway, I am now continuing my talk about Resident Evil. Now it's about characters.
My favorite character in the series is...
Chris Redfield
The man himself, Chris Redfield. Chris is, without any doubt, the main character of the series. He's the one that you rely on, and the one that most of the story revolves around.
And overall, Chris is just a great character. In the original, he was sort of a cliche (though he had plenty of funny lines), but then in Code Veronica he was greatly developed, shaping him into the person he is now. When they remade the original, Chris resembled himself from Code Veronica.
Chris pretty much stares in all the big parts of the story: the original, Code Veronica, and The Umbrella Chronicles.
Well I had trouble thinking of a least favorite, so instead, I will tell about who I find over rated and under rated.
The most under rated character in the series (to me) is...
Billy Coen
Seriously, this guy barely gets any appreciation. Sure, he only appeared in two games, but he was a great character in both. He's not your typical Resident Evil character. On the surface he seems like some bad dude who just wants to get out of the danger. But as the story goes on, you see who he really is, how he causes Rebecca to change so much.
So yeah, I find Billy to be a great character, and he has a strong seat in my top five favorite characters in the series.
The most over rated character in the series (to me) is...
Jill Valentine
Before people start going crazy, yes, Jill is massively over rated. Why she's the most popular is beyond me. Sorry guys, but it seems like most people's only reasons are "oh my gosh, she's so beautiful!"... Okay, now taking that aside, what traits does she actually have that make her so appealing?
She barely even has any personality at all, speaks monotone half of the time, and barely even has a back story. I'm sure plenty didn't know that she was a member of the Delta Force. Even the SD Perry novels had to create a back story for her.
But don't get the wrong idea. I do like Jill. I just find the other female leads (Rebecca, Claire, and Ada) to be more interesting. But I still like Jill, and that probably won't change.
Resident Evil Reviews
I was bored, and decided to review the main Resident Evil games.
Resident Evil 0 (2002) Resident Evil 0, while exists in the mid era of the Resident Evil series, serves as a prequel to the original story. It doesn't just build up to the first Resident Evil; this game creates a brand new story. It was originally for the Nintendo GameCube, but was ported to the Wii in Japan only.
Strange deaths are occurring in Raccoon City, and the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team goes to Raccoon Forest to investigate. Rookie member Rebecca Chambers comes across a dead train, which turns out to be infested with zombies. Rebecca must team up with a criminal, Billy Coen, to survive Dr. Marcus' viral monsters.
The story is great, the ally of justice working with a criminal that was sentenced to execution. Rebecca gets memorable character development, which really doesn't exist in the other games. Also, while Rebecca might of seemed silly or annoying in the original, she has gotten a lot of development in this game, and you really grow to like her. Also, Billy is a great character, unfortunately will never appear again (most likely).
The graphics are some of the nicest that the Nintendo GameCube has to offer, and are close to that of the XBox's. The areas look amazing, including my personal favorite area in the whole series: the reservoir leading to the Church. There is also a lot of memorable songs. My three favorites are: the song when you must stop the train, the fight against the Centurion, and the song where Billy must save Rebecca when she is about to fall into a pit.
The voice acting is possibly the best in the series. But even that isn't saying much. I find Billy to have the best male voice in the series, and Rebecca's voice is also wonderful. However there were some weak ones, such as the older version of Dr. Marcus, William Birkin, and the older Dr. Marcus (I know that I repeated that).
However, I do see some untapped potential in the game that could have put it above even the original. But it was still a great game, and is a great prequel to the original.
Resident Evil 0: 8.0/10
Resident Evil (1996) Resident Evil was, as the title pretty much says, the first game, and it really was a great start. It was on the Sony PlayStation, and was then re-released on that system with updates. It was then brought to the Sega Saturn, the PC, and was later brought back in a remix version for the Nintendo GameCube, followed by a Nintendo DS version with new features.
After the Alpha team fails to get contact with the Bravo team, they search for them, but are forced to take refuge in the mansion. This is the setting of the game where you must control Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine.
This game really opened and ended with a bang (no pun intended). Although I find the first section to be the best, it really is an all around great game. The monsters are great, the weapons are well balanced, and the music is great (though I prefer the sound track for the Dual Shock version, which has a more horror feel).
Of course, the graphics by today's standards are horrible, but back then they were great. And even today, these lower quality graphics actually make the mansion even scarier, in that it probably wouldn't be as scary with modern technology.
Of course, I can't leave out the voice acting. It was totally horrid, but everyone loves it. Who couldn't forget laughable lines such as "Jill Sandwich" and "Master of Unlocking"? I actually missed the bad voice acting when the game was redone on the Nintendo GameCube.
The game was totally amazing. Now I like the Remake version on the Nintendo GameCube, and the Deadly Silence version for the Nintendo DS. But I think the original will always be the top.
Resident Evil: 8.8/10
Resident Evil 2 (1998 ) Known as the best in the series, Resident Evil 2 was nearly flawless. It continues a few months after the previous one. Now the virus has spread through Raccoon City, and everyone is turning into zombies. You must control Leon and Claire to escape, while avoiding the mutated William Birkin.
I can't believe that I once disliked this game. It was so well put together. I can fully understand the praise that it gets. The new monsters are great (Licker, that's an original monster), and while the weapons aren't well rounded (Leon gets much better ones) that doesn't take much away from this game.
The graphics are noticeably better than that of the original, but still bad compared to today. The sound is great, and the voice acting was improved, though still bad (Leon: Ada wait!) It was truly a worthy sequel.
However, personally, I found it to be a little easy, probably the easiest in the series, which puts it a bit below the original in my book, however not by much. This game was ported to the Sega DreamCast, the PC, the Nintendo 64, and the Nintendo GameCube.
Now who else is hoping for a Wii remake?!
Resident Evil 2: 8.7/10
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (1999) This game takes place at the same time as the previous. You must control Jill Valentine again to escape from the city, which will soon be destroyed, all the while running from the coated monster, Nemesis.
Personally, I was not too impressed with this game. They tried a lot of new stuff, which I give them credit for, but some of it wasn't that good. For example: gun powder. Also, what was with the horrendous monsters? It seems like the creatures were trying to make the monsters as weird as possible. Nemesis was way too hard, especially at the beginning of the game.
But the game was still good, just not as good as the others to me. It added new stuff that are still used in new games, such as the quick turn, which was a great addition. And it is cool seeing the upgraded Jill in this one, though Carlos was a little annoying to me. The graphics are slightly better than that of the previous games, though the music isn't as good, to me.
This game was ported to the Sega DreamCast and the PC, along with the Nintendo GameCube. Despite my problems with it, I do like it, and am willing to play it again.
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis: 7.0/10
Resident Evil Code: Veronica (2000) This was the true sequel Resident Evil 2, and should have even been called Resident Evil 3, instead of the previous one. Unlike the previous games which started on the Sony PlayStation, this started on the Sega DreamCast, but was later ported to the Sony PlayStation 2 and Nintendo GameCube with ten minutes of added Wesker cut scenes.
This game centers around the two main characters of the whole series, Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker. It begins the rivalry between them that has become an important part of the series. The game, however, starts with Claire continuing her search for Chris. But really, that's just an introduction; Chris was without a doubt the main protagonist.
The game was great, though your performance in Claire's mission determines whether the second half will be a lot of fun, or frustrating. You have to do your best in the first half to have the best experience in the second.
Of course, the graphics are superior by a good amount, running on a 128 bit engine instead of a 32 bit engine. The music was also good, better than the previous game, though I don't think it is as good as the first two games.
Anyone who ignores this game because it doesn't have a number title (for whatever reason), check it out. It is an important part, where Chris' life is really changed forever.
Resident Evil Code: Veronica: 8.0/10
Resident Evil 4 (2005) This game was completely flawless, way better than the last games to me. I could even make an argument that it is the best game of all time.
It takes place six years after the original, where Umbrella is finished. However in this game, Albert Wesker is attempting to revive it. You control Leon Kennedy when he goes to Europe to save the president's daughter.
People make so much fun of this game? Why? Simple: because most of them can't handle change, and the fact that the series has changed forever. Face it: the old style would have gotten bland over time. Leon has changed completely. While I don't know if I like him as much in this game, he does have some hilarious lines even still ("Sadler, YOU'RE small time").
This is an action game, rather than a horror like the last ones, and really excels in that. I never get bored of the game, even if I play through it ten times. What I love is when people try to say that the prototype version is better. Really guys, you have never played it before, let alone seen more than five minutes of it? The creators even cancelled it because it was too paranormal. The series is meant to be scientific, not paranormal. I know I wouldn't be happy with that version. T
hey really took a big chance with the change, but it really paid off.
Resident Evil 4: 10/10
Resident Evil 5 (2009) Now this isn't out yet, but I have high expectations for it. How good does everyone else think it will be? I was thinking about rating my expectations for it a 9.5. But really, why not challenge it? Will it turn out to be better than the previous one? That's something I'd like to see. I challenge it, and will rank my expectations a 10/10.
School
Today I started school again. I am actually not that disappointed, nor am I excited. Senior year should be great.
Is everyone else back in school?
I have returned...
I have returned today. That was a nice three weeks down the shore, but I am glad to be back home.
By the way, when does everyone return to school?
Also, I have reached level 23!
Video Game Discussion: Dragon Seeds

Wow, I am finally making a new video game discussion. I still have about three more days down the shore, so I'll post more when I get home.
Anyway, Dragon Seeds for the Sony PlayStation is one of my favorite video games ever. It's been a while since I played it so my description of it's back story may be slightly off.
In the back story of the game, scientists have found DNA of ancient dragons and manage to close them. The game revolves around these creatures.
You clone your own dragon at a lab and, after a day (video game time), it is ready. You train it with a weapon and reflector (shield) and bring it to the battle field, where it must rise up the ranks.
This game doesn't go light on you. If your dragon is defeated on the battle field, it dies. You must surrender to keep this from happening.
As your dragon gets older (one day = one dragon year), it evolves. It starts as a baby, then adult, then senior, and from these it can take three paths.
The graphics are decent for it's time, and the songs are some of the more catchy on the Sony PlayStation .
This game is not well known at all, but it's one of my favorites. I like the many different types of dragons, especially winged and crustacean.
Dragon Seeds: 9.5/10
