A New Game Idea

I have this new idea for a game. Tell me what you think about this:

Ok, this would start out as a flash game online. Basically, it is a robot combat game where the robots you fight with are determined by your computer's specifications. For example, if you have an HP computer with a core 2 duo processor and an integrated graphics card, you will have a different robot than someone who is playing on a Dell Xps with a quad core processor and a GE-force 8600. With a system like this set up, people would be able to compete and see who has the best computer specifications. Each piece of hardware in the computer would be scanned, and this would happen using one of the programs in which the user sends a report on their system specs to the program itself. Likewise, each brand and model of hardware would have a corresponding part to be fitted to your own robot.

So, in this game players can battle 1 v 1 in an arena, or they can choose to band together in groups of maybe 10-15 players. These groups would be set up to fight against "bosses," which would be robots formed using the system specs of modern supercomputers, like those at google or the National Security Agency. In order to defeat the boss, you obviously do not have to match the power of the supercomputer, though you porbably would have to have quite a few quality computers.

I envision this game looking something like Castle Crashers in its early stages, but maybe moving onto a 3d style later. It would be called something like "Spec Mech 2009."

Here's what needs to be fixed in Gears of War 2:
Here is a list of what absolutely needs to be fixed in Gears of War 2 multiplayer:

1) Matchmaking
2) Matchmaking
3) Matchmaking
4) Matchmaking
5) Matchmaking

That's right, the only thing that absolutely needs to be fixed in Gears of War 2 is the slow matchmaking. Waiting three to five minutes to get into a match is ridiculous. When I play a an action game online, that's exactly what I expect: Action. Other than that, there is nothing else that really needs to be fixed. I know what some of you are thinking though: What about the overpowered chainsaw? What about the underpowered shotgun? What about smoke grenades? What about the massive lag? Usually I would answer all of these questions with What about it? But since most people are looking for an in depth answer, I guess I have no choice but to oblige or suffer a barrage of thumbs down (and I can't upset people, not on the internet).

The shotgun:
I've heard way too many complaints about the new shotgun. Many people think it isn't powerful enough, and I was on board with those complaints for a while until I played with the shotgun a bit yesterday and I see what Epic did with it. They made it the perfect weapon for ninjas! In the original Gears of War, it was a weapon that could be used by rushers, duelists, and ninjas. Now in order for the shotgun to be effective, you have to sneak around the enemy so you can get close enough to kill him/her without being spotted. Before, the shotgun was mostly about rushing in and engaging in a practice called the shotgun dance. This is where two people strafe in circles while shooting their shotguns randomly until one of the dancers fall. Now with Gears of War 2's stopping power, you must sneak around the enemy, get close, aim, and fire.

The chainsaw:
Now many people think the chainsaw is overpowered. Really? I think if someone with a chainsaw can get within a foot of you without being downed, you deserve the bloody chainsaw death. If someone does get too close to comfort: dive back and fire. Most people complain about the amount of shots it takes to stop someone from revving their saw; well the dive back and fire strategy is perfect for these situations because it gives you enough room to fire off enough shots to stun the chainsawer. At this point, he/she will be a sitting duck! Make 'em quack...

The smoke grenade/wall tagging:
As you should be aware of, we now have the ability to plant smoke/frag/ink grenades on the walls, which turns them into proximity mines for the poor sap who walks past them. I love this new feature! It adds a new strategic dimension to the Gears universe. Unfortunately, many people disagree. Most people think wall tagging is cheap. To be more specific, most people think smoke tagging the wall is cheap because of the new concussive blast the smoke grenades emit. I think it forces the player to be more observant of his/her surroundings. It teaches players to think before they blindly run around a corner. I guess people aren't aware that you can shoot down grenades on the wall, but not only that! If you throw a grenade anywhere near a walled grenade, the explosion will cause the grenade(s) on the wall to go boom and kill/knock down anyone who planned to trap you.

The smoke grenade's concussive blast can now knock you off your feet. I love that! Now I can use smoke grenades to not only create a temporary smoke screen, but anyone near the blast will be incapacitated. Which is perfect if I want to sneak behind the enemy or if I want to get a power weapon without being shot to the ground within seconds. People now act as though the smoke grenade is the Holy Grail of Gears of War 2, and that nothing can overcome it. Well, this is a team based game and if you run ahead of the team only to be knocked down by a smoke grenade and killed, then you deserve death! But if you stay with the pack and get knocked down, your team can provide cover fire until you get up. Multiplayer is based around teamwork, after all.

Laggy hosts:
I would usually understand this complaint. But I believe most of the lag will (or at least should) be fixed when/if matchmaking is fixed. Matchmaking should select the best host, which is not always the case. Besides, I haven't experienced too much lag online. Personally I think they should make it more like Halo 3's matchmaking where it gives you the option to:

-Play with people of your skill level
-Play in a room with a great connection
-Play where people speak your preferred language

I'm sorry if you disagree, but it's all just my opinion. I know I sounded like a jackass, but I'm sick of people complaining. I think people just need to learn to adapt rather than whine to get their way. I'm not gonna lie, I whined at first but then I adapted to the shotgun, the grenades, and the chainsaw. I just don't understand why it's so hard for everyone else to do the same. Thanks for reading! If you disagree with any of what I had to say, leave a comment telling me what you disagree with. I'd love to hear some responses from the other side of the argument.

Game Over

As some of you may - or may not - have noticed, I've effectively removed my reviews. I've resigned from my unions - one of which I was an officer. And this is the final note, the final say, the last word.

I've been a member of gamespot for 3 1/2 years. For 3 of those, I've been writing amateur reviews, and for over one of those, I was an officer in the Candid Collector's Union - which is by far one of the best group of people I've ever met online or off.

And I'm not bragging. This is what I've chosen to give up because of the current scandal here. At the same time, I'd like to believe I'm not throwing this all away. But other than the friends I've met here - with whom I can communicate with in any form of IM software - what am I losing?

An insider information site? I can always go to IGN, Kotaku, Game Informer, 1Up, EGM, Gamepro and Game Politics for that. You're not the only game in town - no pun intended. I'm certainly not losing a review site; I stopped taking reviews seriously a long time ago.

I know that I am leaving a place of corruption. I know that someone lost their job so the company could save face with an investor - an investor often plaguedwith money troubles, at that! But that's what happens when you've already sold your own soul; you have to find someone else's as collateral.

If I were a paying subscriber, I might actually be talking to a lawyer right now; if someone says their product is red when in fact it's blue, and I bought the product based on that pretense, you have a duty to either give me what I paid for or give me money back if I reject your substitute.

Speaking of substitutes, there is no substitute for integrity. If Eidos tasks you, CNet, with a glowing review, you should have given it if you were so inclined, not handed it to Gamespot to see who'd fall for the trap.

CNet, you have earned every ounce of illwill aimed toward you. And that's not my problem. Nor will it ever be.

Now, for those of you who enjoyed my reviews, they're pretty easy to get; just e-mail me and ask; my contact information is in the "about me" tab, and I'm not going to change that.

Also, to those who I've tracked and who have tracked me, thank you for all the articles and reviews; it was good to read some real perspectives.

I wish you all the best, no matter where you go.

NWC.

P.S. This will be my last post. After I finish this letter, Gamespot and CNet will be blocked on my router; if you wish to contact me, e-mail/MSN is pretty much the only way. Just the way it goes.

What is Up
I rarely do Blog's anymore, very few people bother reading them, some take them the wrong way, and or im just to lazy to want to bother to try. As it seems I usually type these long novels when im having an insomnia trip. So here's how things are going down lately. (For GS Entry, first entry since Oct of 06. lol)

Gaming -
So Black Friday is over with, thankfully I didnt have to work at the store that day (For those of you who dont know, I took a part-time job at the Newest Gamestop in the Area. Whittier and Spence Ave, pics in the pictures section). We had some really awesome deals, and as of the moment we are still running the 2 for 1 used games deal until the 2nd. On friday im finally buying Timmy's replacement PS3, and im keeping his original. Ive been treating it like it was mine lately anyway. Ive purchased most of the online PSN Store game's, and I have pretty much all the popular titles reserved. I picked up Kane and Lynch, which ive nearly completed already. Me and the guys are starting a Warhawk clan this friday known as "The Care Bear's" (Rigo's idea).

Rigo and me at Wotk:

We also will be playing Resistance: FOM, and UT3 when its released in mid December. Warhawk was the turning point for me as far as the PS3 is concerned, its an awesome game and I see hours and hours of hours wasted in game. As far as im concerned though, Skate still is the best game of all the next gen platforms so far. Ive spent countless hours online in freeskate. Its almost everything ive always wanted in a skating game. The next gen Thrasher: Skate and Destroy so to speak for those of you who've played that. For those of you getting PS3's for christmas or havent added me to your PSN Friedns list, my s/n is Kenji_Matsuo. If you want to know, you can ask me lol. I just got my Wii back about a month ago. I dont have all the games I had before, im really just waiting for Super Smash Bros, but in the mean time im going to catch up on the hit Gamecube titles that I missed out on (There are not many lol). Also for those of you who have Wii's and or will be getting them, make sure to add me to your address friends code list and let me know when you do so I can add you back (Need to for it to work) The number is 7474 3910 7289 3562. Right now I have Wii Sports and the RE4 Wii Edition. Oh and for those of you who want Super Mario Galaxy, ive had it in my store for a couple of months now, and it totally sucks. I like that they are trying to be creative, but Sunshine was a much better game over all. And the Bee suit, is pretty damn gay I also played the Turok demo tonight, that is gonna be intence.

Work -
Not much to say about Warner, its been a little slow, and will be with the Christmas holidays coming. The strike isnt effecting my work as some have asked, they are usually picketing far from where I am. They are all overpaid clowns anyway. Some probs at GS, but id rather not type that up....for now.

Phone -
Well i did get my new phone, the Palm Treo 700wx.

If you want the number, you can PM me for it now. Its pretty **** awesome. Unlimited data plan, Minutes, the whole thing $35 a month. YES, $35 a month with Sprint.

Music -
And lastly, im finally getting some good eccordings in. On my friends list on myspace, it is the band Chaotic Sequence. I need all the comments and suggestions I can get, so please have a listen and let me know whats goin on.

Not much else to say for now, Besides my work Schedule has changed from 6am to 3pm to now 8am to 5pm Mon - Fri. Weekends im usually at the store. See my fighting game entry, im seriously wanting to play. Comment!

World Cup

Been watching a fair bit of the world cup, mainly the Aussies, every game they have played though they have been shafted by the referee's and todays game against Italy was no exception. They have done well to get this far and to be knocked by a very dubious penalty decision is bitterly disappointing.

Eight Below
Most people rushed to go see this movie because of the lovable dogs and their very appealing appearances, but I personally went to see the actual survival story. The story wasn't anything out of the ordinary, it was just average and didn't make you feel obligated to feel sorry for this bunch of sled dogs. The story, as most of you might already know, involves a team of Antarctic snow dogs who are abandoned in the middle of an icy hillock. Jerry Shepard (Paul Walker) is the trainer of these endearing pups and is evacuated because of a gargantuan snow storm that is going to hit Antarctica, or as the characters in the movie like to call it, "the bottom of the world." Jerry soon discovers that he cannot return for his sled dogs until late August because it is too dangerous to head down into the aftermath of the storm. The dogs must then try and survive for months on their own in the cold, harsh weather until their trainer can finally reach them and take them back home. The entire movie is inspired by a true story, so I have no problem with it. The only problem I did have with the story is the very unamusing love that Jerry has for his co-worker, Katie (Moon Bloodgood), but tries to hide so he can focus on training his dogs and have more time to spend with them. That entire part of the movie proved to be astonishingly distracting and gave no additional entertainment to the audiences watching. I will have to admit that I am still flabbergasted as to how the makers of this film were able to get this amazing footage, not only of the snowy environment, but of the dogs by their lonesome. This movie deserves a lot of credit for its special cinematography and backgrounds, but otherwise, it tries to hard to succeed in things that it never even could, not to mention the horrible acting. If you have seen commercials for this film or have seen its theatrical trailer, you've seen the entire movie.

The Programming Journey Begins...
I've done tons of Game Maker (practically mastered it), started working with C++...But now, I'm starting to really buckle down to learn C++. I'll be starting at Full Sail in 5 months now, and I have that time to learn C++ as well as possible, along with finishing my last game I'm making with Game Maker. So wish me luck, for a while my journals will be prodominantly programming/video game design based.

A day in tha Life of tha JPP #9

Reduced Lunch Edition:

My Mom finally got around to putting in for it, cause im tired of not being able to afford lunch, and starting tomorrow, my breakfast will cost 30 cent's, and my lunch will cost 40 cent's, instead of $1.75, and $2.00 Even though there was a lil problem, and they processed it wrong, and I easyly qualify for free lunch. I will just re apply some other time, later, but for now im cool. Cause sometimes after We pay bill's, and the internet, and there is a a week till pay day, we don't even have a dollar. But still this is cool, cause for the last 3 week's, ever sence I quit my job, ive had to hustle, just to get my lunch money. My mom suggested we just cut the internet, but you know the answer to that... Im waaayyy too addicted to Gamespot to EVER give up my internet.
