Since I've Been Gone *cue '80s music*

http://www.last.fm/music/Rainbow/_/Since+You+Been+Gone

Who doesn't like a good bit of '80s rock?!

Hello everyone! That's right, it's that guy who keeps disappearing! I'm really genuinely sorry for not being here much, but school has been crazy and exam season is looming

Basically, the purpose of this blog is just to say *sorry* and that I will try and be back up properly soon! Also, here's a couple of links to where I am around the web, in case I / when I go MIA again...

E-Mail - A little '90s, I know, but I'm still a fan of it!

Facebook - That's right, I've entered the social networking arena! 've got a couple of TV.Commers already added and I find it's a great way to get to know people better and keep in touch. If anyone feels like adding me (and I'd love to add you!), just send me an email / PM!

Frasier Online - No prizes for guessing what this site's about! I'm the forum a bit and it's good a great community (but nowhere near as good as TV.Com ). You can also see what I've been watching in this thread

Last.FM - Spy on my listening and see my musical taste here (and then call me an idiot for listening to X )

MI6 Forums: Keeping the British End Up - Not half as kinky as it sounds, this is simply a great James Bond forum I discovered recently. If you're a Bond fan, come and have a browse around!

...and that's about it, to be honest! I promise to try and get back online soon and I'll try and get around as many blogs as I possibly can.

Tom.

TV, Taken, Ten Inch Hero, Rambo, Unicorns

Hey there, it seems that I really haven't been watching much tv of late, i have just lost interest in pretty much most tv out there...all except a few dear favourites! I find myself just waiting for Supernatural to come back to me! The new episode looks like it is going to be so damn good! The trailer every time gets me all hot and bothered! The feeling of excitement building more and more...I have the explosion scheduled for next week! Can't wait to see Castiel rocking the flasher mac again, and sam participating in some naughty extra curriculars and Dean dishing out some pent up frustrations.

Also, looking forward to Dollhouse and Smallville! Which is kicking ass! Oh and finally got round to seeing Dr. Horrible's sing along blog, which was so good. Great beginning...I could certainly have given the good doctor some tips on evil laughter. I loved the ending...joss knows how to do a good character exit.

Started watching 90210, got caught up in the hype and it just looks like another typical teen drama. There will be drugs, sex, teen pregnancy, alcohol, car accidents, deaths...ur usual typicalness...and if we're lucky we may just get a crazy stalker psycho! One can only hope!

So, i have watched quite a few good movies this week, so thought i'd just say a little about them.#

Taken - 10/10

Oh my lord! 10/10 people! There is nothing cooler than an old dude kicking ass! I mean Liam Neeson is sooo frickin cool he is ICE COLD! This movie is everything you want from an action thriller...seriously, its like when you're watching some evil dude giving a load of chat, stalling before he is shot by the good guy, and you're like shouting "JUST SHOOT HIM" well, this film does just that. Liam Neeson is chasing down the guys that kidnapped his daughter and he only has 96 hours to do it...sounds like a standard plot but it is executed with so much edge and authority it just feels so fresh! I feel like I should be using more exclamation marks to illustrate just how awesome this movie is!!!!!!!!!!! If you haven't seen it go watch it...Seriously....NOW people hustle....lol. The dude is cooler than Jack Bauer .....*distant voices "no way"* well yes way! Go on I dare you to challenge my claim!

Ten Inch Hero - 8/10

Okay so, I finally got round to watching ten inch hero...now before the mind wanders to the gutter let me tell you a bit about the movie. Okay so, it revolves around the lives of four friends who all work in a sandwich shop in santa cruz...not very interesting you say? Well just hold up...You have Tish (Danneel Harris), the pretty damn hot chick who jumps on every guy in sight, all except Priestly (Jensen Ackles), who appears very rough on the outside but there is a mr.nice behind the crazy mohawk's and facial hair. Thirdly we have Jen (clea Duvall) the nice plain girl with low self esteem and just waiting for her to find her soul mate; and finally there is Piper (Elisabeth Harnois) the new girl who recently came to santa cruz to find the daughter she was forced to give up 8 years ago. They are all just trying to live life, find love and get past their insecurities in life. Now this wasn't really my usual type of film and the only reason I watched it was because Jensen was in it but I was quietly surprised by how good it was. The story was well put together, some great comedy (Priestly and the tampon scene one awesome highlight!!), relatable characters, great music composition and some nice transitions between scenes. So if you want a feel good movie, produced beautifully with some interesting characters then I recommend you watch it. It is probably better than how I described it but I get bored of writing sooooo...anyway here's a link to the funny supermarket scene for those who haven't had the chance to see it.... enjoy!

*I originally wanted to embed the vid but I suck at computers so here's a link instead *

Rambo - 9/10

This film was brutal! And so realistic that it made me cry. It is really great that this film really helped show people the real brutality going on in Burma...I myself am a person who kind of stays ignorant to the world...i don't like to think about such horrible things happening. Like you watch them on tv but it doesn't really register with you that this stuff is real and happening to human beings. TV desensitizes us, but this film brought me back to earth. I think about war and people in pain and I think why hasn't the rest of the world banded together to put a real stop to this crap but how do you put an end to it? By words? Or by action? Well Rambo was right...you can't make peace with words...its not something heartless dictators care about...they understand three things; Money, Power and Death. And I doubt the world would want to take the first two things to sort out problems so death is what it comes down to. You fix problems with blood. Yet why is it right that others should suffer to bring justice and democracy in this way? Okay so I could go in circles fo hours about this so I'll cut it short. Rambo was a nice way to end the franchise. And he talked sense...it is just a shame that the world can't just get along. We find it so easy to destroy ourselves but its waaaay too hard to just let people live their lives in peace....oh im off again

Endnote: Its pretty cool how Julie Benz managed to still look good covered in dirt.

So thats pretty much it, off to frolic in the leprechaun fields with candycorn rainbows and unicorns.

One Year On

So, according to my Joining Calendar I joined TV.Com in June 2007 - where has the time gone?

Only the other day I realised i had been a member of this brilliant community for a year and four months. The time really has gone - it feels like only yesterday i was nervously adding comments to forums and getting yelled at for writing in closed ones... oppsie.

Nowadays i am a forum junkie. i contribute to everything and i love it!

Well, i hope to continue contributing (that's not easy to say or type) for the next a thousand years (or posts - i cannot believe i am a level 10!) and i hope the TV.Com Family still welcome with open arms. May the forums continue.

My review on sims 2
If you were wondering, The Sims 2 is a great sequel and a great game in its own right, and it's recommendable to just about anyone. For some, especially the devoted fans that have enjoyed the first game's open-ended gameplay, which was all about controlling the lives of autonomous little computer people, this is all that really needs to be said. But considering that The Sims 2 is the sequel to what is reportedly the most successful computer game ever (and that's not even counting its many expansion packs), the new game almost seems like a victim of its own success. Yes, it introduces plenty of new features that enhance the gameplay that was so popular in the original game, but it doesn't drastically refresh it. It also features plenty of options to play with, but it seems like it could've used even more content. Then again, you could simply say that EA and Maxis are making sure the game has room to grow with future updates--and there's no denying that The Sims 2's additions will give dedicated fans of the series plenty of stuff to do. You can make a highly customized family, even if all you want is a bunch of Nerds.
In the most basic terms, The Sims 2, like The Sims before it, lets you create one or more "sims"--autonomous characters with distinct personalities and needs. You then create a virtual household of one or more sims (you get to decide whether they're roommates, spouses, or parents) and move them into a house and a neighborhood that is either prebuilt or built from scratch. Your sims interact with each other and with their neighbors, children leave the house for school each day, and employed adults head out for work to earn a living in one of a number of different career paths. However, the sequel has several new options, including an enhanced neighborhood editor that lets you import custom cities from Maxis' own SimCity 4, if you have that game installed. Plus, there are expanded building options that let you build a much bigger house. But the most significant additions in the new game are probably the enhancements made to the sims and the ways they act. While they still have specific personality types determined by their horoscopes and individual characteristics like neatness, niceness, and playfulness (which you can still adjust to your taste), sims now have some notable major new features (some of which are more important than others), like memories, customized appearances, genetics, aging, and the new aspiration/fear system. Memories are generated by important events that occur in sims' lives, like getting married, having a child, or having a loved one pass away. Memories impact your sims' future behavior (though not to any huge extent), and they can also be used to build out a highly customized neighborhood with its own background story and photo album if you're so inclined, though they don't add much more to the basic game. The sequel also features enhanced appearance editing tools that let you customize your sims' clothing, hairstyle and hair color, and also let you make many adjustments to their facial features. Oddly, the editor doesn't let you adjust your sims' height or their build (beyond making them "normal" or "fat"), but it, along with the "body shop" utility, should let most players basically re-create whatever characters they want to from their favorite TV shows or movies. Nerd family genetics at work. Parents pass on their traits to their children in The Sims 2.
The appearance editors go hand in hand with genetics, which takes the ability to create a family of sims and builds it out further, though what you get out of this new feature depends entirely on what you put into it. Essentially, this new system lets sims pass on genetic information to their children. When creating a new family, you can have the game randomly generate that family's children based on the parent's appearance and personality (and you can further edit the child's appearance and personality however you like, if you prefer). Depending on your preferences, you may find yourself messing around with the genetics system in other ways. You might try to carefully re-create a real-life couple or family to see what kind of genetics they pass on. Or, you might toss some alien DNA into the family tree to see what happens, as The Sims 2 also lets you create aliens from outer space that you can marry off to humans, if that's what floats your boat. More importantly, sims maintain their family ties (assuming you don't have any dramatic family squabbles), so if you decide to really hunker down and build out an extended clan, you can start with a carefully designed family or group of families, let them get married, and let them have children. You can then watch the children grow up and move out into their own places. And since sims are still autonomous and go about their lives even without supervision, you can expect to later receive visits from doting grandparents (or mooching grandchildren, depending on whose household you decide to control). Again, like memories, these are features that will reveal their rewards with the extra time and effort you choose to spend on them. BUY IT!

show might be coming back
Originally posted: February 8, 2008

When is your favorite show coming back? Check out the list below

If the Hollywood writers' strike isn't officially over by the time you read this, the odds are it will be history soon.

A tentative deal was announced early Saturday, and reports indicate that a settlement between the Writers Guild of America, which went on strike Nov. 5, and the producers who run the movie studios and TV networks, is a done deal. Most observers expect that the writers will return to work in the next couple of weeks - probably before Feb. 24, the date of the Academy Awards. They could return to work as early as Monday, if all goes well during the meetings scheduled Saturday on both coasts for writers to hear details of the pact.

So the question is: What's next for TV, which was completely shut down by the strike? What shows will go back into production, and which ones will return with new episodes this spring?

The following information about when various programs may resume has been collected from a variety of sources at TV networks and studios. (Note: New episodes of TV that are set to air in the next few weeks were shot last fall. Once programs resume production, it'll be April before we see fresh programming on the air).

The decisions about when shows will start shooting again and when they may air new episodes are still being made. So keep in mind that much of this information is subject to change. I'll update this list as new information comes in.

Broadcast networks

ABC

  • Scripted shows arriving soon: "Men in Trees" returns with 11 new episodes Feb. 27. As is the case at other networks, various ABC series have a few new episodes shot last fall in the can, and they'll air in the next few weeks, among them are "Brothers & Sisters" (which airs new episodes Sunday and Feb. 17) and "Boston Legal" (new episodes Tuesday and Feb. 19).
  • Shows that will probably go back into production: "Grey's Anatomy," "Ugly Betty," "Brothers and Sisters," "Samantha Who?" and "Desperate Housewives" would likely go back into production when the strike ends. Some episodes would probably air this season. New ABC shows "Private Practice" and "Dirty Sexy Money" could resume shooting and return this season also, though there's a good chance they will come back in the fall. "Pushing Daisies" will return in the fall. "Lost," which started airing eight new episodes Jan. 31, will resume production as well. It's not known when those new episodes would air.

CBS

  • Scripted shows arriving soon: "Jericho" returns with seven episodes Tuesday. A cleaned-up version of Showtime's "Dexter" debuts Feb. 17.
  • Shows that will probably go back into production: "The Big Bang Theory," all three "CSIs," "How I Met Your Mother," "NCIS," "Criminal Minds" and "Two and a Half Men" are all likely to return with new episodes this season. "Cold Case," "Without a Trace," "Numbers" and "Ghost Whisperer" may also resume production. Some episodes may air this season.

CW

  • Scripted shows arriving soon: Episodes of "Everybody Hates Chris," "Aliens in America" and "One Tree Hill" that were shot last fall will air in the next few months. "Supernatural" and "Smallville" are airing new episodes now. Three new "Reaper" episodes and more "Smallville" episodes will air Thursdays in March.
  • Shows that will probably go back into production: "Gossip Girl" should resume production and will probably air episodes this season. "Supernatural," "Smallville" and "One Tree Hill" may also start shooting soon after the strike ends. When those new episodes would air is not certain. As is the case with other network shows that have not gotten full-season orders, the fate of "Reaper" is up in the air.

Fox

  • Scripted shows arriving soon: "Unhitched" debuts March 2, "New Amsterdam" debuts March 4, "The Return of Jezebel James" debuts March 14 and "Canterbury's Law" arrives April 14. New episodes of "Back to You" begin Feb. 26, "ƒ|'Til Death" returns March 14 and new episodes of "Bones" start airing April 14.
  • Shows that will probably go back into production: "24," which filmed eight episodes of its seventh season before the strike halted shooting, will resume production of the next 16 episodes of the season. But don't look for Jack Bauer in 2008; Season 7 probably won't air until January 2009. Nothing has been decided regarding "House" or "Prison Break."

NBC

  • Scripted shows arriving soon: "quarterlife" debuts Feb. 26. Episodes of "Monk" and "Psych" that have already aired on USA debut on NBC in April. New episodes of "Las Vegas," "Scrubs," "Medium" and "Law & Order" will air over the next few months.
  • Shows that will probably go back into production: "Law & Order," "Law & Order: SVU," "ER," "30 Rock," "The Office" and "My Name Is Earl." The new shows "Life" and "Chuck" will probably return in the fall. Nothing has been decided about "Heroes" and "Friday Night Lights."

Cable networks

ABC Family

  • "Greek" returns March 24.

AMC

  • "Breaking Bad" is airing new episodes.
  • "Mad Men's" writers are at work on the second season of the show (the studio that makes the show, Lionsgate, struck a side deal with the WGA), and the series is expected to return this summer.

FX

  • "Nip/Tuck" is airing new episodes.
  • Season 2 of "Dirt" begins March 2.
  • Seven episodes of "The Riches" will begin airing after "Dirt" completes its seven-episode run.
  • The final season of "The Shield," which has already been shot, will air at the start of the summer or after the Summer Olympics.
  • New seasons of "Rescue Me" and "Damages" have been commissioned, but the return dates for those shows depend on when they complete production on new episodes.
  • "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" is also expected to return.

HBO

  • "In Treatment" and "The Wire" are airing new episodes.
  • "John Adams," a new miniseries, begins March 16.
  • No dates have been set for the following HBO shows: "12 Miles of Bad Road," a new series from Linda Bloodworth-Thomason; "Big Love"; "Curb Your Enthusiasm"; "Entourage"; "Flight of the Conchords"; "Tell Me You Love Me"; and "True Blood," a new vampire series from "Six Feet Under" creator Alan Ball.

Lifetime

  • "Army Wives" has been renewed for a second season. No return date has been set.

Sci Fi

  • "Battlestar Galactica" returns April 4 with the first 10 episodes of its 20-episode final season. Once the strike ends, Sci Fi hopes to begin shooting the last set of episodes as soon as possible.
  • "Doctor Who's" fourth season will begin airing in April.
  • The "Doctor Who" spinoff "The Sarah Jane Adventures" will debut in April.
  • "Eureka" will return, but no date has been set.
  • "Stargate Atlantis" is airing Season 4 episodes. Production begins Feb. 19 on Season 5, but no return date has been set.
  • A new series, "Sanctuary" (which began as an online show), goes into production in March and will debut in the summer or fall.

Showtime

  • "The L Word" is airing episodes.
  • "The Tudors" begins its second season March 30.
  • Tracey Ullman's "State of the Union," a new five-episode comedy series, will debut March 30 after the second-season premiere of "The Tudors."

  • A new comedy series from England's ITV, "Secret Diary of a Call Girl," will air in late spring or early summer.
  • "Californication" has been renewed for a second season and should be back in the summer.
  • "Dexter" has been renewed for a third season. No return date has been set, but if the strike ends soon, it's likely to return in September or October.
  • "Brotherhood" has been renewed for a third season. No return date has been set, but if the strike ends soon, it's likely to return in September or October.
  • The writers for "Weeds" (who are covered by the WGA's side deal with Lionsgate) have begun working on the show's fourth season, but no return date has been set.

TBS

  • "My Boys" is expected to be back this summer.

TNT

  • "The Closer" and "Saving Grace" are expected to be back this summer.

USA Network

  • A new show starring Mary McCormack, "In Plain Sight," premieres April 24. The first season of the show has been filmed.
  • A second season of "Burn Notice" has been commissioned, but new episodes have not been filmed. If the strike ends in the next couple of weeks, it should be back in the summer.
  • "Psych" and "Monk" are airing new episodes. If the strike ends in the next couple of weeks, they should be back in the summer.
  • A second season of "The Starter Wife" has been commissioned. If the strike ends in the next week or two, it should be back in the summer.
  • "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," which moved to USA last fall, is back on NBC. The show is expected to go back into production and shoot new episodes for USA when the
