The Joyful Song

I've got a Dollar in my pocket
I'm going to catch myself a bus ride
and go in search of that princess I once lost
hoping she's going to take me back
she'll be mad, this I know
once I swore never to speak to her again
but that was before she unplugged the phone.

I'm going to sleep out in the stars tonight:
watch Halley's Comet walk on by,
see the green grass whistle and bow
to the blowing wind
sense a kiss that's bound to fall upon my lips:
yes, I know she'll take me back.

Children playing out in the yard
watch their feet dance to the merry-go rhyme
hear them sing and smile:
"La-la-de-da, la-la-da-de"
as mother and father returns from the farm.
There's going to be a feast tonight
I'm going to uncase my guitar
already I hear whispers of an unborn child
my lady's going to take me in her arms
we're going to dance the monlight waltz
just you watch me sleep in her arms tonight.

The Saddest Song

Verse 1:
Come with me, darling
I will not hurt you
I only want to take you to the stars;
Lightening and thunder
Two brothers in a river
So we must never drift apart.

You love is your weakness
A smile for a kindness
Oh, how I hate to see you cry.
No, they never said it was easy
This life that we live is just so hard
I know you would like to be even
But it's must too early for us to bow out

Come, let's travel up to the stars.

Verse 2:
Pain is a virtue
Silence a deep blue
The day no longer different from the night;
Sad as the grey clouds
This song I made just for you
Still, how I'd love to be your guide.

Sleep on my shoulder
Smash up my guitar
I never want to see you cry.
Yes, they never said it was easy
How come the gods never told us things would be this hard
You’re burning inside, I can feel it
Could you at least give me one big smile.

Come let's go sleep under the stars.

Mama Said ... (Acoustic Blues Version)

Mama once said:
Son, one day your nights will go cold
You'll be left all alone
With no shirt on your back;

My mama also said:
Sooner or later I'll be back on my feet
I'll have lots of dreams
And I won't be missing you anymore.

I got kicked off my job 'cause I couldn't stop coming late
They says the world's going to end tonight
So I might as well sit out with myself from now
Too much's gone away and we still don't know
No, we'll never know
Just what we did or said to make it end.

Got hassled by the cops for walking the long line
There's death and loneliness out in the streets lately
Best you and I find shelter
Before all this is gone
The landlord threw me out today
'Cause I'm still behind on the rent
But our love is all I wish for
So I know I'm not lonely anymore.

Mama once told me there'll be days like this
When you'll have to roll off the wrong side of the bed
Believing you ain't over on your head
Just to read the New York Times

But mama also said
Son, no matter how many times you fall
Don't stay there till dawn
There's a silver star out there for you
And it's calling your name.

SONG (Come Over Me)

So they wouldn't want you to get up no more
They're only there to get you down
Who would have thought you'd be sitting here
Crying all night
Feel the lights go off in your eyes

I've been travellin' these dusty roads for a long time now
And I ain't gotten no rest
I feel the sun rise up behind my back
Watch the moon fall down on my face.

CHORUS:
Don't let me fall asleep tonight. ol' girl
Don't let me have no dreams
Just let me lie here in your arms tonight
And let your love come over me.

All the workers have walked out into the night
And the bars have all run dry
There's no place for us here anymore
If only I could sing into your ears
Tell you how much I feel;

There's so much sadness in this heart
And it's bleeding me out
My mind feels like I've been drinkin' all night
Could I just have some water from that cup of yours
Could you hold me up if I stagger to fall.

CHORUS:
Don't let me fall asleep tonight. ol' girl
Don't let me have no dreams
Just let me lie here in your arms tonight
And let your love come over me.

Dr. Dre Presents...The Aftermath Dr. Dre
"Influential"
"Welcome to the AFTERMATH ... the second growth." Such as the announcement made in the intro of Dre's complilation piece after ending his journey with Death Row. But the album did more than that; it also signalled his turn-away from Gansta-Rap, delving instead into pure G-funk and Urban-styled music. The album does succeed in the latter, in the sense that nearly half of the songs are cool and laid-back, with soothing lyrics for one to simply kick his feet up to. Of course it also acts as a bit of dissapointment since most folks - myself included - miss the old Dre and regard this new one as a genuine let down. There are some revealing tracks of course, such as the brilliant "East Coast/West Coast Killas" featuring great MCs the likes of KRS-ONE, B-Real, RBX and NAS displaying their individual lyrical persona.

Kingdom Come Jay-Z
"Decent"
First Mase said he was retiring for good ... then five years later, he's back. Inbetween that time, Jay-Z also made the same proclamation ... then three years later, you guessed it - he too is back with a comeback album. Comeback? Why is it a lot of artists think that their fans are entirely stupid? Everyone knew well enough that Jay-Z wasn't retiring. Or rather everybody knew, except perhaps Jay-Z, what with him still recording new materials with Beyounce and else where. Then comes a gigantic promotion for his new album "KINGDOM COME". Does it sink or float? I'd rather you judge for yourself after listening to it.

Todd Smith LL Cool J
"Turn it to 11!"
I'm always on the defensive when it comes to this: why is it the media are still portraying LL's upcoming album as a 'comeback'? Didn't they get it when he announced in his hit single "MAMA SAID KNOCK YOU OUT" in his first line: 'Don't call this a comeback - I've been here for years!' Hard to imagine that they still find it hard accepting such when he hit radios with THE DEFinition album. And here he is with another LL bomb. The album opens with a vicious headbanger with him showcasing lyrical talent alongside Juelze Santana, from there it slips on to the club-dancing melody hit that's 'Can't Control Myself.' Of course the album's packed with other outstanding voices, but none of them's strong enough to outshine the lyrical heavyweight that's TODD SMITH aka LL!

The Ecleftic: 2 Sides II a Book Wyclef Jean
"Influential"
For most fans and even critics alike, most would surmise that "Ecleftic" as the album that completely dissociated Wyclef from the rest of The Fugees. The album is highly inventive, though a subtle part of it tends to bend towards the usual sacchrine. None the less, the Wyclef did a pretty good job, sterring himself further from Hip-Hop's mainstream and further into Alternative with invites such as Ken Rogers;, the sound of Pink Floyd; Mary J. Blige; The Rock;, Earth, Wind and Fire to offer much spice and harmony to turn it into a classic. The album moves ... and penetrates the soul.

Weathered Creed
"Grows on you"
Carthatically grungy, retroactive pop and at the same time sonorously introspective and religous undertones, it's hard to imagine that the sound of Creed hasn't changed much from their previous albums, but it's also a good sign to know that they still have the magic, even as a three-man band.
