Killzone 2 1.20 Patch Now Available
Guerrilla Games is ready to release its version 1.20 patch for Killzone 2. Already available for download in Europe and the US this 16MB update fixes all previously detailed issues.
Taken directly from Official PlayStation Forums, these issues consist of:
Boost -- We've identified and fixed the bug to do with the boost medal not being awarded. It will go into a patch we are working on at present, but there is a workaround in the mean time to get it. Simply ensure that you are the Game Creator rather than client and you'll be awarded it.
Network Errors/Honor Ranks -- We are also looking at fixing a good bunch of the network errors and are looking into the complaints about the Honor Ranks as well as a couple of other bits and pieces. We'll provide a list of fixes when we are close to releasing the patch.
Bots -- We're working on a permanent solution for the bots stat padding and have some internal solutions that we're going to work on implementing. We'll let you know what those are when we've got the patch together and the solution implemented. We will NOT be wiping ALL stats and padders will be looked at individually by the moderators.
www.kz.com -- www.killzone.com is being sorted out today to deal with the massive traffic it's been facing and hope to have some long-term solutions in place shortly. The stats are currently empty on the site and will be repopulated today.
Controller Issues -- We have not stopped looking into the complaints and will see what we can do about it. Any possible changes will have to be carefully implemented and tested before being deployed though.
Charge disarming -- We have identified the issue where sometimes the C4 charge in Search and Destroy will not disarm. Will be fixed with the next update.
Shotgun Aim Assist -- Investigating the problem and will patch it up.
Clan Games -- Sometimes the clan that does not turn up for a match is awarded the win under specific circumstances. Will be patched ASAP.
Battle Replay for Map 8 - Corinth Crossing -- The BR on www.killzone.com is not quite right and will be fixed soon.
Ignore list -- Was found not to be functioning correctly. Will be fixed in the next patch.
Crashes -- Crash when using Saboteur disguise in certain situations. Will be fixed in the next patch. Infrequent crash when trying to start a game with an empty game name. Will be fixed soon.
Medic/Assassination -- There is an issue with the Assassination target HUD icon displaying when playing as a Medic. Investigating and will be fixed.
inFamous Launching Worldwide in June (DEMO on the way)
You're currently looking at the box art for Sucker Punch's upcoming PS3 exclusive, inFamous. The cover, along with the release date (well -- month, at least), was revealed on the PlayStation Blog today. You'll be stepping into the electrified shoes of Cole McGrath at some point in June. We're not sure inFamous will be as successful as last June's major PS3 exclusive, but players will be able to try this one out before they buy, as a demo has already been confirmed.
The game's soundtrack has also been detailed recently on Music 4 Games. It will be a collaborative effort between Amon Tobin, Jim Dooley, Mel Wesson, Martin Tilman who, between them, have worked on Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Pushing Daisies, Pirates of the Caribbean and Black Hawk Down. In order to produce a more urban, gritty sound, the composers will be creating music from real-life objects and materials found in urban environments. We're looking forward to seeing (and hearing) more as the release nears.
PlayFire Unveils Official PlayStation Trophy Cards
Joystiq reports:
We're not sure what's happening over at SCEE -- maybe there's something in the water -- but this is the second time it has managed to trump SCEA with regards to PlayStation.com features. Sure, Europeans have had to wait a little bit longer for Trophy integration but the result is so much better. What you see above are the official designs for the Trophy cards, which PlayFire.com has revealed to its members in conjunction with SCEE.
PlayFire took the bull by the horns when SCEA released its Trophy features on PlayStation.com and allowed users to sync their PlayFire cards with their Trophy info. It's not automatic, but it's a lot faster than adding them individually. These new official cards, however, will update automatically based on the Portal. We're not sure what the Portal is, but a Trophy card that updates automatically sounds great to us.
These Trophy cards will be available from eu.playstation.com (though you can use a PSN account from any region) at some point soon.
BioWare CEO talks PS3 development, MMOs
In an interview with Play magazine, BioWare CEO Ray Muzyka called the PlayStation 3 a really amazing platform to work on. He also said that BioWare might consider joining the growing MMO presence on PS3 if the studio could overcome some of the challenges with console interface design. However, that doesn't mean the company's current, PC-only MMO project, Star Wars: The Old Republic, would appear on PS3 sometime down the line; Muzyka says BioWare might explore other MMO games in the future.
For now, the EA-owned dev studio should probably focus on getting its first game on PS3 out the door, which happens to be the multi-platform Dragon Age: Origins. That title is expected to be released sometime later this year.
Sony...What the HELL?!?
How are you going to lose the exclusive rights to one of the huge money makers that put you on the map??? One of the reasons I bought my PS3 was to one day (hopefully) play Final Fantasy 13 and you let Microsoft get their hands on it as well??? STOP DROPPING THE BALL!!! We lost the exclusivity for Grand Theft Auto, Ace Combat, Devil May Cry and now Final Fantasy...WOW!!! I had a feeling that was gonna happen as soon as the CEO of Square, Yoichi Wada said he had one more vid to show and sure enough, my fears came true. In addition to the 360 buying/stealing the FF series, they're getting about four additional exclusive RPGs (including Lost Odyssey) while all we have is a crappy port of Oblivion. I like RPGs and Sony 'was' the king of RPGs while the 360 was the king of FPS'...now they got those and all I have is this ranting blog...
Sony better come with it tomorrow or I fear they're going to lose not only money but a HUGE fanbase...![]()

MGO Beta Overview and Impressions...
Finally, after waiting for what felt like a century, the Metal Gear Online beta went live in the US sometime early Friday morning. This came after two delays that had me waiting up until 3AMET (12AM PT)...yea, I know, you may think I'm crazy, but if you played any game in the Metal Gear series, you would know that Kojima never fails to deliver! So I went through the whole ordeal of pre-ordering MGS4, having the beta keys delivered late, dealing with the crap-fest of obtaining IDs and then two delays, but it was well worth it!
After creating yet another ID (yes another one for the game...) you get to create your character. There are only four available skins to choose from, but I'm hoping for more in the official version. You equip your character with all the appropriate head, chest, leg, arm and feet gear you see fit and are allowed to specify the color of each piece as well. You can then assign a voice to your character from a handful of choices but then are allowed to further alter it by adjusting the pitch. The final part of customization is the skills. This is where you select which areas you would like your character to specialize in. You get up to four skills and can select them from an array of specialties. All in all, with the exception of available skins, the customization is pretty satisfying.
Initially, it would be best to attend the training session where those who are and aren't familiar with Metal Gear can become more acclimated with the gameplay mechanics. I will tell you off the bat, that although the training session tells you basics, it fails to tell you how to exactly play Metal Gear. Alot of people were complaining about the speed of your character, the confined areas in the maps, the shooting mechanics, the bland feel to the game...all I can say to them is that it's not COD4!!! The game is NOT a FPS and should not be played as such. Metal Gear is about stealth tactics and places alot of emphasis on the use of Close Quarter Combat (CQC) techniques, which I personally love! I still have yet to snap a neck or slit a throat, but I delivered a point blank heardshot to someone I was holding hostage. I have no idea how I did it or if it was a glitch or what, but it was unexpected and very bad @$$!
The control mechanics for Metal Gear was always outdated...from MGS1 to MGS3 and that always felt a bit annoying, but those were MGS controls! For the beta and probably MGS4, Kojima decided to modernize the control scheme which are commonly used in games of today. Everything works well with the exception of the auto aim feature, which leaves more to be desired. But with the auto aim feature, you are not allowed to aim at specific body parts, so the use of that feature is not recommended.
Graphically, the game looks great and envelopes you with that Metal Gear vibe. The instance you spawn and give a salute to your comrades you are instantly thrown into the universe of Solid, Liquid and Solidus Snake...oh and Big Boss of course
. The audio sounds great delivering original sounds from MGS as well as the new voice commands you can bark out in combat. I have not experience any dip in frame rate, but I have been kicked from the server three times in about four hours...but hey, it's a beta so I don't expect it to be perfect.
All in all, any fan of the Metal Gear series will have a blast for the next two weeks playing this...at least I know I will. GTA4 will have to wait a week...unless I get tired of roughing people up with some good ol' fashioned CQC. Anyways, I have included a commercial for MGO...enjoy!
Meet the Engineer...
Growing up, I was always fascinated with how things worked. Not knowing what makes things tick can lead to all sorts of ground-breaking discoveries (to a seven year old) and revolutionize your world in many ways. Such as electricity...you don't know about it's existence when you're young, but you know that when you stick a cord into the wall things work. Well, what would happen if I cut the cord with these pliers while this clock is plugged in...lets see...and that lead to another discovery...conductivity...I should've been shocked (and possibly killed) but when I heard that zap of electricity, saw the smoke and then the power go out, I knew something occurred...and that I possibly did something wrong. My mother instantly ran into the smoke-filled room and saw me there with the pliers, the clock, a cut cord and a look of guilt on my face. After cussing me out and putting me on punishment, she told me that I was alive because of the rubber on the pliers...I didn't get it, but after taking physics in highschool I truly understood the magnitude of stupidity that little stunt I pulled off was. Well, enough of my side story, being an actual Mechanical Engineer, I thought it would be fitting to show what I do at work...enjoy the vid!
Five things you may not know about tryfe_lyn...
Funny thing, it actually took nearly two weeks to discover that majadamus tagged me into this madness...I don't know how this all started but I don't want to drop the ball...so here's my list of five things that you may not know about tryfe_lyn:
1.) Member of HAZ
My clan, my online family in the gaming world, my online brothers from another mother...HAZ is da sh***nit and we're always gunnin for ya dula...even when you don't know it!!!
2.) Basketball Freak!!!
I love basketball (if you couldn't tell) whether it be NBA, NCAA, WNBA, International, Highschool or Streetball and I love playing it equally...if you see that cat on the court takin ankles...yea...that would be me ![]()
3.) Mechanical Engineer
Yea...self explanitory...I'm a cool nerd if that makes sense...I'm that dude that has fun at parties, knows alot of people, is known by alot of people, gets numbers (well, not anymore...thanks to my gf
), goes out frequently and all other things associated with being "cool" yet I was that guy that knew everything, did well in school and always had a solution to a problem (according to my peers)
4.) Favortie Drinks are Hennessy and Gin (not mixed together...that's a BIG mistake
)
Got to have a favorite dark and light...it's a must!
5.) Always put others ahead of myself
This can be considered a flaw, but I can't help it. I need to help others before I help myself...go figure...
Now I will tag my fellow HAZ brethren:
DeadlyDisciple, Ratedrko22, sa10kun, tdoll22, THE1NE21, mrvic87, coa17ch, bamfer3, bigburd, Schonertod, hiryu3, Blackswift08, Sony_92
Okay...I know, I know...I can't tag everybody in the clan...sorry ![]()
Online gaming and HAZ!!!
Prior to purchasing a PS3 the only online gaming experience I've had was playing Internet Spades, Internet Hearts and bootleg chess games (yes...I like playing chess) in which the only form of communication were pre-written text messages from a pull down menu. Times have most certainly changed for me and I'd have to say that they've changed for the best. With my shinny new next-gen system I now have the ability to play with a numerous amount of people across the world and even voice chat with them. I know this technology was already implemented on the last gen systems, but I was still enjoying my offline single player campaign modes (and I still do today) because that's all I knew.
Online gaming definitely seemed like a requirement for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii and I have to commend all the designers...this is indeed a great feature and I can't see a gaming future without it now! Not only do you get to enjoy an offline single player campaign mode (for the most part) but now the life of a game is extended by taking it online creating a greater sense of getting your money's worth! Don't get me wrong, games like Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank and Devil May Cry all provide for unforgettable experiences but adding an online component allows you to communicate and further build relationships with your online brethren. Another solid point that attracts me to online play is the fact that your dealing with other humans and not programmed AI. Sure everyday game designers are utilizing tools and engines that are getting closer and closer to simulating human behaviour, but it's not quite there and honestly I don't think ever will (at least not during our lifetime). For example, designers can program their AI to take an infinite amount of routes to flank your position, but this will occur on a 2D plane...humans will think of these same routes but add the third dimension and instead of seeing an AI controlled enemy walking down an alley towards you you'll see a human controlled enemy walking on a ledge overlooking that same alley.
As stated before a big part of online gaming is getting a chance to meet other people all over the world. As you play more and more with these unknown faces you begin to develop relationships that can yield hours and hours of fun and excitement and ultimately (if you're on the same wave length) a clan. I've never been part of a clan, but that all changed the beginning of this year when a few of my comrades, people I didn't know and myself formed one. We wanted to create an environment where we could get together and have fun, talk about games, strategies for said games, trash talk to one another (in a playful manner of course) and more importantly gain some online friends that had similar interests...and so HAZ was born!!! Thanks for all the fun and entertainment...and keep the squad tight!
AIM FOR THA DULA!!!
Fighting a battle you can't win...
Sorry folks, but I had to write a quick blog with the recent events that have taken place. The first and probably most important point is that it sucks that a person lost their job for aparently doingsaid job correctly. Whether or not you liked the guy, it sucks...plain and simple. I was always on the fence and didn't always agree with everything the man said, but his points were always respected due to the fact that he was a sort of anO.G. to the videogame editorial/review realm.
But you cannot bite the hand that feeds you plain and simple. For the little kids that like rebellion, fine, that's cool, but when yougrow up, corporate america forces manyto conform to mannerismsyou maynot agree with ultimatley living in the "grey area". It sucks, but that's how it is. Hopefully this is a reality check for many and you see how cut-throat life can be sometimes.
Today, many have decided to "boycott" the CNET networks to show support of Jeff. If you think about it, your cause is a lost one. Boycotting is not effective unless you have nearly 100% participation from all parties involoved. As stated before not everybody really cared for the man and even though I agree it's not right what has happened to him (if that's the true story), I truly don't care. He does not put food on my table, is not a relative and will not impact my life in any kind of way what so ever. There a99.9% chance I willnever meet the guy. Due to the fact that he's a seasoned vet in the game, he'll find work out there and most likely land a much better gig than what GS provided to him...but I digress.
This boycott will not work as many users (including myself) are still using the site like normal...and probably the biggest surprise (not really) is that his former colleagues arestill active onthe site as well!!! Secondly, if you really want to send a message (other than 100% participation) DON'T COME BACK TO THE SITE!!! You're showing how much you believe in your supposed cause by leaving for one day and then coming back the next. CNET will note the minor decline in today's activities, but once they see things resume back to normal tomorrow, they'll continue with their daily business of making that money.
And to the Jeff fanclub that thought this guy could turn water into wine, don't be mad at me because I'm not all up on him like that...be mad at the powers that be for pushing the eject button. Change is good...and this will be a good opportunity for him in the long run. Now back to the games...
PS3 2007 Wishlist...
I got tired of constantly posting in forums concerning my wishlist for the upcoming onslaught of PS3 games. So, with that in mind, I figured it would make it easy for the world if I posted it on my page in a blog. The list is in order of release date and is as follows:
1.) Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction ( purchased 10/24/07 )
I was very impressed with the demo. If you haven't completed it yet, I suggest you do because you will not be disappointed. I really foresee myself (as well as my girl) having loads of fun with this title.
2.) The Simpsons Game ( purchased 01/14/08 )
This was another fun demo. I am moreso interested in having a good title with good co-op...and who doesn't love the Simpsons...I know I did...back in the 90's.
3.) Stranglehold w/Hard Boiled blu-ray
Very good action packed game from start to finish (I hope). A good ode to Max Payne and True Crimes: Streets of LA...I love shooting the place up in slow mo.
4.) Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare ( purchased 01/14/08 )
Have you seen this game??? No need to say anymore.
5.) Army of Two ( delayed until 2008 )
Another title that seems like it will be a sleeper this year due to all the major headliners simultaneous release dates. Will yield a good co-op experience.
6.) Assassin's Creed ( purchased 11/14/07 )
I was sold on this game the first time I layed my eyes on it.
7.) Blacksite: Area 51
Who doesn't love aliens? A first person shooter that I will highly enjoy.
8.) Uncharted: Drake's Fortune ( purchased 11/16/07 )
An exclusive that embodies all aspects of good gameplay.
9.) Kane & Lynch: Dead Men ( purchased 11/14/07 )
Heat, Heat, Heat...need I say more? This is going to be a very good action game...I gaurantee it.
Honerable Mention:
1.) Conan
Decent hack n slash game. I thought the demo was alot better than people made it out to be...and truthfully, I enjoyed it more than the Folklore demo.
2.) Clive Barker's Jericho
Another first person shooter that I think I will enjoy...and most likely end up getting after the above games.
3.) Haze
Hmmm...I'm just not sold on this game yet, but I will keep my eye on it for further developments.
At a pricetag of $60 a pop, that's $540.00 plus taxall together...I'll be spendingabout $570.00 within a timespan of alittle over a month...good thing I'm employed...
I finally purchased a PS3!!!
Sorry I haven't posted anything in a while, but I've been very, very occupied enjoying my shiny new 60Gb PS3!!! That's right...I have joined the elite ranks and jumped into the next-generation of videogaming...and I have to admit...it's great. If I was a Sim, everytime I go into my living room, my fun meter would go off the charts!!! I made the purchase Saturday, September 8th...my current PS3 game library consists of Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2, Def Jam Icon and of course...WARHAWK!!! Stay tuned for reviews of each of those games, however, it may take some time due to the fact that I'm usually sitting around enjoying my new entertainment system and the goodness of free online gaming!!! I've been cutting out of work early since my purchase and I plan on doing so again today!!! Thanks to all for the input from earlier in the year...enjoy the madness of next-gen gaming...HA HA!!!

Rich Gallup crying on last On The Spot Show???
Not saying that anything is wrong with shedding a tear or two, but I was wondering if anybody else thought the same thing. Towards the end of the most recent On the Spot show, they didn't return to him after giving him his tribute, which seemed a little odd...and on top of that if you listen closely you can hear a sound that sounds like a sniffle or two. I don't know...it could just be me or maybe they didn't want to put him on blast like that...or better yet, maybe Jeff or Brad broke down and just lost it. If you didn't see the latest show, check it out...thoughts anyone???

Transformers the Movie

Last night I was given the opportunity to see a pre-screening of the new Transformers the Movie set to release in theaters today and man all I can say is WHOA!!! If you're an 80's baby or somehow made your way over to the Transformers realm through G1, Beast Wars, Cybatron, Energon, etc. you will most definitly love this movie...unless you're an obsessive compulsive person with a hankering for details. I just caution you...THIS IS A MOVIE...that was based on a popular cartoon series!!! Anytime something goes to Hollywood and is based on something that exists, not all details from the original source will be emulated!!! Characters will look different (robot and vehicle/alternative forms), characters will be excluded, plot lines will be altered and the explanation on some things (i.e. how Bumblebee arrived to Earth) will not emerge and weaknesses in the Transformers that were not present will show face. Just go to the movie, sit back, relax, watch this cartoon come to life, enjoy the beautiful life-like transformations (except Brawl) and take in some air for your past childhood has emerged as a seemless CGI and real-life action movie...oh and there WILL be a fairly high body/metallic exoskeleton count!!! ROLL OUT...
PS3 vs. Xbox 360
As the summer draws near and the northeast finally begins to thaw out, I should be amped at the fact that soon I will be performing various outdoor activities...whether it's walking around the neighborhood, taking a jog along the river, crossing somebody up on the blacktop, shooting a turn-around fade-away jumpshot in somebody's eye, going to an amusement park with my wifey or hanging out in the front yard and enjoying conversation with family and friends, I should be doing backflips for our two months of blazing summer is nearly here...yet I am conflicted inside. I am conflicted because deep down I have a feeling that I will be just as excited to be bundled up, sitting in my A/C filled home, in front of a 50-inch flat screen plasma tv playing either a
or
I believe that I will eventually end up owning both of the systems, but there are some crutial questions that must be answered for both units such as:
1. When will the PS3 be receiving more blockbuster titles to fill up it's anorexic library?
2. Will Sony ever reduce it's price for the PS3 and if so (fingers crossed) when?
3. Will Microsoft ever issue a recall for the 360 and fix its lingering issues?

4. Will any titles be exclusive to a particular system and which one?
5. And probably the most important...Which systems will FF13, MGS4 and Mass Effect be on and will they make a port for the other system?
I know which system those titles are suposed to be released, but hey...things change all the time, especially within the gaming industry. Or maybe I should just go in a completely different direction that nobody (including myself) would see coming...maybe I should just purchase a

I mean it is significantly cheaper and the games are fun, but how long would I enjoy playing Wii sports or older Nintendo titles? Well at least there's Mario Galaxy, which looks absolutely amazing, however, there is just one issue...it is revolutionizing the way we interact and play with games but over-excited people usually end up looking like they've been in a bar fight or they damage their television set. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what the future has in store for me.

Clone Wars
Use the Force...
It would be great if somebody made a game for The Clone Wars...it was clearly one of the best times for the light side of the force as there were numberous Jedi. This would be a great seller for any Star Wars fan as there are alot of interesting characters with varying special abilities and force powers...could be an open ended type of RPG similar to KOTOR but a 3rd person action/adventure without the RPG elements would give it a fresh feeling...
If I could only develop games...
