Welcome to 2010

The first day of the new year is here. In gaming a couple of days ago I did the 84 song set in Rock Band 2 on medium and got 5 stars on every song except two which were Steve Miller Band- rock in me and Mettalica's battery. I won't spoil the suprise of what you get for doing that but it took a good 6 and a half hours. If you really want to know what you get for doing the 84 song set I can message you about it. For the new year I have finished Forza Motorsport 2 and I finally started playing Mass Effect again. I believe Darksiders and Bayonetta come out Jan 5.

Just ordered a DSi XL...

... or DSi LL as it's refered to in Japan. It's done. Mine is on the way with a couple accessories (hard cover case, screen protector). I got a $50.00 gift card for use on ebay along with a $25.00 Visa gift/debit card. I used both of them to buy my new system and I'm hoping it will all be here over the next week.

I have had a DS Lite for a long time now and when the DSi came out, I considered the upgrade but something inside told me to wait. I'm glad I did becase the DSi LL is the exact same system but with 4.2 in screens. My one complaint about the DS since it first came out was that the screens were just too small. Now, that won't be a problem for me anymore.

For anyone interested, I'll be leaving a full report on the DSi LL as soon as I have had a chance to play it. I'll let you know how everything looks, plays, and sounds on the new system. This will help many of you decide on whether or not you're going to get it as soon as it releases stateside.

I'll keep you all posted.

Duke Nukem must die

I have been following duke nukem: forever for... forever and well here is my two cents. THe duke franchise is so cleverly crafted from the raunchiest humor to the most intense of blood baths and fantastic bosses. Duke Nukem was made into an amazing game and in my opinion it being out of 3D REALMS hands is just satanic. I love the Duke franchise and would love to see more come out of it but i just truly believe that the franchise should just be put to rest instead of having some developer come to the franchise completely new and screw up one of my beloved series. What do you all think?

A Dynasty of Fun - Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires

The franchise has been around for to long producing the same beat-em up genre game since 1997. The most recent Next-Gen version called Dynasty Warriors 6 was fun and had better graphics but didn't live to my expectations.

Then I get a hold of Dynasty Warriors 6: Empires for the 360 and I can say this is what I wanted from the franchise. Strategy, improved graphics, all the characters, create a character, and you choose the path of your character.

I know I'm weird for liking this game as much as I do but the game provides more to just beat'em up. Playing on Normal and Easy are very easy on all levels (the strategy, fighting and all around game play) but as you go into higher levels, they do get challenging as you keep playing.

The game is also has easy points for the 360 if anyone is willing to invest some time into it.

Would like to thanks Crimsonhead16 for showing me this game (he is on my friends list on XBL and I noticed that he was playing it). He and I do like the franchise alot.

I just got 12 games for 60 bucks

It was amazing. So I was looking through the forums over at Cheapassgamer.com when I saw a thread about a Hollywood Video $5 game sale. The deal was any used game 30 dollars or less could be bought for only $5 each! I was stunned and darted over to 3 different HWV's. These were my spoils:

Trauma Center Second Opinion (Wii)
Naruto Revolution (Wii)
Geometry Wars Galaxies (Wii)
Bioshock (PS3)
Tom Clancey's Endwar (PS3)
Mercs 2 (PS3)
Rainbow Six Vegas 2 (PS3)
DBZ Burst Limit (PS3)
Devil May Cry 4 (PS3)
Final Fantasy 3 (DS)
Final Fantasy Tactics A2 (DS)
Zelda Phantom Hourglass (DS)

I am a very happy camper. Thanks CAG!

Edit here's a picture of them.

Virtual Kingdom Theme Park Consept

Ok, so here is an idea I came up with for the absolute coolest theme park ever designed called Virtual Kingdom. The idea is that it would be Disney's 5th park in Florida and would be geared towards and older audience. Here's the pitch I wrote in a Disney fan site forum:

Ok, here is an idea that I think would become something revolutionary. It's a theme park devoted to video gaming. I am a hardcore gamer and know that the gaming industry is becoming just as big as the film industry. Disney has started to get into the game with their own publishing arm and buying up a few studios, so why not bring the magic of gaming to Florida with a gaming based theme park? Ever wanted to experience your favorite gaming moments? Now you can...

The park would be called Virtual Kingdom and be geared towards an older audience sort of like Islands of Adventure, but have the entire park be based upon both classic and modern gaming franchises.

Attractions would be rated on content using the ESRB rating system used to rate the content of video games. These ratings are:

Everyone: Suitable for all audiences
Everyone 10+: Suitable for ages 10 and older
Teen: Contains content suitable for ages 13 and up
Mature: Not appropriate for anyone under 17

There would be six lands: Galactic Conquest, Mushroom Kingdom, Old School Central, The Streets, Main Stage and Mythical Palace.

Galactic Conquest: This land would be devoted to sci-fi and futuristic games.

Attractions:

Halo: Covenant Wars (Teen for violence)
Board a Warthog and blast your way to victory against the vicious Covenant onslaught. Based upon Microsoft's popular Halo franchise. This ride would use the Dinosaur ride system and give guests assault rifles to gun down targets who interact with the ride vehicle, depending on if you kill them or not. Each vehicle would seat 6 guests.

Star Fox The Ride (Everyone 10+)
Do a barrel roll with Fox and friends on this dark roller coaster ride through the galaxy! Based upon Nintendo's cla$$ic Star Fox franchise. This would be a pretty standard roller coaster with a highly themed beginning launch sequence.

Bioshock: Enter Rapture (Teen for violence and scary images)
The lost city of Rapture, a city of beauty and mystery as well as terror and destruction. Will you survive or become another victim of the Big Daddys? Based upon 2K Games first person shooter series. This would be a heavily themed boat ride filled with lots of advanced interaction scenes, including a large dramatic plunge, and several interactions with Big Daddy AAs.

Dead Space Experience (Mature for violent and disturbing images)
Dare to board a deep space mining ship and experience the horrors that Issac Clarke faced on his trip, if you survive that is. Based on EA's sci-fi horror franchise. This would be essencially a walk through haunted house with advanced audio anamatronics and lots of very intense moments. Not at all suitable for children.

Ratchet and Clank (Everyone 10+ for some crude and suggestive humor)
Join Ratchet and his trusty robot ally Clank as they journey into outer space in search of Ratchet's orgins. Based on Sony's action/platformer franchise. This would be an omnimover dark ride that follows a shortened story from the Ratchet and Clank series.

Mushroom Kingdom: This area is completely based on cla$$ic Nintendo franchises, especially Mario.

Attractions:

Super Mario Bros. Adventure (Everyone)
Board a shellmobile and aid Mario on his quest to save Princess Peach from the evil Bowser! This would be a dark ride using the same system as Journey Into Imagination following the basic story of the Mario games.

Mario Kart (Everyone)
One of the best racing party games is back and in real life! Board your kart, take out your opponents and get to the finsh line! This ride uses an advance go kart vehicle that stops and spins when hit by items activated when passing certain points on the track.

Mario Party Plaza (Everyone)
Play carnival $tyle games based on the Mario Party series.

Pokemon Central (Everyone)
Gotta catch 'em all! Create your own Pokemon, trade other guests and battle in the state of the art battle arena. The battle arena would allow guests to, for a fee, battle other guests using a hologram battle arena.

The Streets: Trash the urban landscape of a city filled with carnage, mayhem and zombies!

Attractions:

Grand Theft Auto: Turf Wars (Mature for Violence)
Choose your side and battle for turf in this highly interactive and immersive laser tag arena based on Rockstar Games' popular Grand Theft Auto franchise. Essentially this would be an open city block with buildings to hide in and defend as well as several interactive environmental areas such as destructible scenery and more. Extra fee required.

Left 4 Dead (Mature for Violence)
Can you and your friends survive the zombie apocalypse? Enter a dark city block and gun down zombies on your way to the safe room. Based on Valve Software's first person shooter. Guests in teams of four would enter a play environment with either a shotgun or machine gun. Then they encounter robotic zombies including smokers, boomers and the mighty tanks. Each player is equipped with a "bullet proof vest" that stores their three lives and keeps track of damage. Shoot down the enemies and reach the safe room alive in order to survive. Extra fee required.

Burnout: Road Rage (Teen for intense sequences of racing and action)
Are you ready for the ultimate racing experience? Board your racer and speed through a sleepy suburban town only to take down the competition and smash your way to the finish line! This highly advanced ride would use a combination of the Test Track vehicle system and the Kula arm technology. The vehicle would be attached to the arm and would speed through the highly explosive indoor environment. The centerpiece move is where the vehicle smashes into a truck and corkscrews in the air over another oncoming vehicle and lands safely onto another track beside it. Harnesses will be a required addition to the vehicle due to high speeds and the corkscrew section.

Psychonauts Boot Camp (Everyone 10+ for some Crude humor)
Dare to enter someone else's psyche with Raz and experience a trip through the mind unlike any other based upon Double Fine Productions' cult cla$$ic game. This would be simulator attraction with a film featuring the art $tyle and several environments from the game Psychonauts. At the end of the ride, guests can enter the Psychonauts Playground of the Mind and have your own boot camp adventure.

Main Stage: At the center of the park is Main Stage, which features a place for guests to try out the latest and greatest games as well as rock out live!

Attractions:

Rock Band Live! (Everyone 10+ for Lyrics)
Are you ready to become a rock star? Audition your "band" to compete with other bands in an all out battle of the bands! Guests would audition for judges using EA and MTV's Rock Band video game. If selected, a small group of bands will compete against each other and the audience will vote on who they think was the best ala American Idol.

The E3 Experience (Everyone to Mature)
Have you ever wanted to go to the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3)? Well now you can experience what it's like at Virtual Kingdom! Here is where you can try out some of the latest games from some of the industry's top publishers.

Mythical Palace: Journey into the world of fantasy and mythology based video games.

Attractions:

Assassin's Creed Stunt Show (Teen for violence)
Follow the great assassin Altier as he leaps, dives and fights his way to glory and honor! Based upon Ubisoft's action series.

God of War: Hydra Battle (Mature for intense action)
Follow Kratos as he battles the mighty Hydra in a scene from Sony's God of War. This would be a revolutionary audio animatronic show using hologram technology. The theater is actually placed above the show area. It's a circular room with two rows of seats in a giant circle around the ring of the theater. Guests are seated and pull down roller coaster quality harnesses, then the theater lifts into the air in a corkscrew rotation and the seats are tilted downward to reveal the floor has become a giant water tank where a huge hydra audio animatronic appears and is killed by a hologram/AA Kratos. During the show, the theater would spin to simulate an oncoming storm and at one moment would briefly drop to startle the guests. It would be a very tough to pull off attraction, but would be awesome if it worked out right.

Legend of Zelda: Temple of Time (Everyone)
Follow Link as he ventures forth to uncover the Ocarina of Time in this dark ride based upon the legendary Nintendo 64 game. The ride would use a trackless ride system in order to increase the level of immersion from each scene.

Soul Calibur: Battle of Souls (Teen)
Choose between Nightmare or Siegfried in a battle of the two great swords on this high speed inverted roller coaster adventure based on Namco-Bandai's Soul Calibur series. This would be a highly themed outdoor dueling inverted roller coaster ala Dueling Dragons that would include a couple brief indoor audio animatronic scenes explaining the origins of each side and a launch outdoors where the battle begins.

Old School Central: A land entirely devoted to the origins of gaming in all their 8 or 16 bit glory!

Kickin' It Old School (Everyone)
Ever wanted to hit blocks and jump through warp pipes in Super Mario Bros? How about play Pong in real life? Well here's your chance in this exhibit where guests can relive some of the cla$$ic moments of old school gaming, in real life!

Neighborhood Arcade (Everyone to Mature)
Play arcade games ranging from old school cla$$ics to more modern hits from across the globe and prove how good you really are.

Tron the Ride (Everyone 10+)
Board a lightcycle and race through cyberspace on a quest to save the virual world based upon Disney's cla$$ic film, Tron. The ride would use a perfected version of the Rocket Rods ride system, increasing the capacity of the vehicles and featuring two different paths. At the end of the ride, guests can pay a fee and battle in the Laser Disk Arena.

So there you go, that is what I would love to see become the Virtual Kingdom. I didn't include restaurants or meet and greets or other smaller attractions, mostly because it has taken me 2 hours to write all of that down. Let me know what you think and if you have any suggestions for new attractions or restaurants.

In order to build this, Disney would need to make deals with Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, EA, MTV, Namco-Bandai, Ubisoft, Valve, Double Fine and 2K Games, as well as anyone else who would want to show their games in the E3 Experience, but if this was done, it would without a doubt be the most impressive theme park in the world.

So there you have it. What do you think?

I come from a long line...

I just found out an interesting fact about my grandpa through a local newspaper article:

Article wrote:
"I've been president of the local Atari group since the 1980s," he said. When asked why there was only a Wii system visible in front of his television, he emphatically replied, "That is my wife's Wii. Definitely, not mine."

My grandpa is the only person I know who had an Atari Jaguar. We'd bust it out on holidays and gawk at teh grafix. Then the N64 came out and we ridiculed the Jaguar's supposed 64-bitness. Puny Atari.

I had no idea that he was the president of the Michiana Atari Club, or even that such a thing existed. He talks about it in the present tense, so I assume it's still around. I wonder what they do when they meet..... I'll have to ask him on Easter.

Why Johnny Depp Can't Be the Riddler
The overwhelming enthusiasm surrounding The Dark Knight this summer has been record breaking for the industry, and memorable for all its fans. Unavoidably there would be intense speculation to if and how they would do a sequel. Nolan has yet to sign on, but it seems inevitable that he and Bale will do a sequel.

But the first mistake everyone makes is instantly jumping to the biggest stars and casting them in possible roles. Angelina Jolie should be Catwoman, and Johnny Depp's eccentric behaviour would be a perfect Riddler. This is the last thing you ever want to do in a series like this, for proof, refer back to the original four and look at what happened when big names were brought in. So far, Nolan has done a good job of casting good but not overly popular actors. Liam Neeson, Cilian Murphy, and Heath Ledger as villians, while Morgan Freeman and Micheal Caine serve as Bruce's allies. Granted, Christian Bale is currently working his way to super stardom (pretty much the biggest actor in Hollywood right now) he was relatively unknown the mainstream before Batman Begins.

So where do you go with a third film. Well, Batman is being hunted, and is now more alone that ever after the end of The Dark Knight. I think you bring him to the moral issue he was set up to confront in the last one. What is necessary to maintain order in Gotham? Can he kill? Should he kill? And what happens when he becomes the monster he is painted as? The Police are going to be one enemy, on their witchhunt for Batman (Introduce Harvey Bullock?) Then could we cast Daniel Day Lewis to bring his own style to the Riddler that terrorizes the divided Gotham PD, and Mickey Rourke as Bane, who seizes control in the absence of power after The Joker eliminates all the mob leaders?

Why Daniel Day Lewis? Not only is he a good actor, but the type to dedicate everything to a role, like Heath Ledger, and his main competition, Depp, would ultimately emulate the same Character Heath Ledger was in TDK.

Personally, as a huge fan of the new Batman series, would like to see this happen. The Dark Knight Returns will pack the theaters once again, but I would also like to see another installment, not after the 3rd, but between the 1st and 2nd. I think there is enormous potential for story during the time that Batman begins his Crusade against money launders and the mob. "The Caped Crusader" could bring back grounded criminals, more like Ras Al Gul. Such as a Black Mask, terrorist/anarchist storyline and/or a Hush as Hitman saga.

Ultimate Picks for Villains (Would Like to see Dent return)

The Riddler- Daniel Day Lewis

Bane- Mickey Rourke

Harley Quinn- Rachel McAdams

Hush- Karl Urban

The Black Mask- Ewan MacGregor

Harvey Bullock-

I Am Suffering
Hello there you guys, it certainly has been quite awhile since I have last typed to you. It's not that I have been busy, I just haven't felt like blogging. So since we've last talked I aquired Rock Band 2. The game is really awesome, a ton of great songs. I haven't unlocked them all yet, but I really want to play Down With the Sickness by Disturbed and Almost Easy by Avenged Sevenfold. The game hasn't really changed anything but thats fine with me. Also, on the back of the box you see that it says 20 free download tracks. When are we going to get those songs!

Another game I have been playing is FEAR Files. I bought this game last christmas and never really touched it. All of a sudden I got an urge to play a horror game. So I beat the first expansion pack which I don't remember the title. Awesome ending to that expansion! I can't wait for FEAR 2 early next year! I also started the 2nd expansion called Perseus Mandate. The scariest thing happend when I was playing this. I was climbing down this ladder and I see a guy walk into a sort of hallway. So I go and investigate this hallway and it's a dead end, there is some ammo there so I grab that and right when I turn around, that guy that I saw walk into the corner is right behind me. That scared the **** out of me!

Other games I have been playing is Burnout Paradise, the bikes pack is alot of fun. I hope with the next update they put some more bike challenges in it. I have been playing the online alot since I want to get the freeburn stuff done. I think I have completed 134/490 challenges, so I have awhile to go. Another game I have been playing is Mercs 2, I still really enjoy this game even though there are alot of glitches in it, it is still alot of fun to play.

The last thing I have to say is I got The Suffering for PC, I would like to thank The Wesker for the heads up on the free download of the game. The game itself is pretty fun and I think I will go through it to completion.

The next game I will be getting is Condemned 2 for the 360. I'm getting this because I have been in a horror game mood so this should be great for the $30 it is now. After that its NHL 09, so DBoy keep an open slot on that team for me!

That about wraps it up for this blog. I might make a video blog for this weekend, so stay tuned for that!

Cya!!

The new URL for my blogs, podcasts, and general insanity.

www.giantbomb.com/profile/Bruce

I'm sorry Gamespotters but.....this site blows sometimes. You can't curse in your blogs, they censor out certain words after I've typed maybe....300 in a paragraph because some HTML bull****, the mods are brain-dead (Not you PrincessZelda, the other mods) and I really was getting tired of the constant issues with the site being down....blah blah blah. SO! Everyone add me to their list and I will continue my "Insanity" on Giantbomb.

Bye!!!

I have personally felt that Gamespot.com has gotten quite stale since Jeff, Ryan, Vinny, Alex, Brad, Frank, Greg, Rich, and all the other important personalities left. Now that GiantBomb.com has launched, I feel that the online community of gamers have finally got their favorite reviewers back, without the corporate advertising pressure of giants like IGN and Gamespot. With there own site, the staff of Giant Bomb will get to cover games on their own terms, which is important to many people such as myself.

The reason I am writing this post is to tell whoever is reading this (not many people, but oh well) that I will be moving to Giant Bomb.

HEY! Remember me? (My life updates)
Well as some of you know, but most of you don't, I left Gamespot roughly 6 months ago without looking back. Well for any of you that care or just stumbled across my profile, he is my updates as of now.

I got divorced from my "true love", aka the $250 paperweight, aka my Nintendo Wii. I have not played SSBB since the day after launch and there isn't much to hold me with Nintendo. My DS finally stopped working when the top screen so whimsically sprang itself from it's lower half.

I got myself a PS3 to which I spent a good few hours on Resistance. My PSP sadly is used for music and the web browser drastically more than games.

But most importantly, over the last 6 months, I found true love in the one place I'd sworn to never look. Yes, I am a World of Warcraft fan. I have a full s2 70 tauren hunter named Dandaru on Laughing Skull and I'm currently working on my rogue Ludacritz on the same server. Feel free to whisper me or look up my toons on the wow armory.

I see a lot has happened union-wise and whatnot. Drop a comment and fill me in on some things if you have a minute.

That Was Fast...

Just to let you all know, Gertsmann's site "Giant Bomb" is up. Since it allows comments, I am going to assume that it will eventually lead to a full user system, and thus I am now plegdging allegiance to it as my core game review center.

I suggest those of you disapointed in Gamespot do the same.
