Hit Alt+F4 for update...
*sigh*
It's been a while since I last updated on here - work is keeping me busier than ever at the moment. However, in the intervening period between now and my last post I have bought a bunch of games, played a lot of games and also had my 360 die on me and be resurrected.
I have bought:
Dead Space,
Guitar Hero World Tour,
Guitar Hero Metallica,
Prince of Perisa,
Resident Evil 5
Out of those I have completed all of Prince of Persia and World Tour. I've just got Metallica so I'm working my way through it. Dead Space and Resident Evil have been put on the back burner for now.
As for my 360, the graphics card in it went (or that's what I suspect). A couple of weeks back I was playing Oblivion and the screen went to purple and green. So I turned it off and back on, which resulted in no picture just sound. After switching cables etc., I decided to check the warranty. Fortunately, it ran out on the Friday of the very week it broke (it broke on a Tuesday). Four days later and I would have had to pay for repairs. So I shipped it back to Microsoft and they've repaired it and shipped it back within two weeks. It seems to be working OK for the minute, but we'll wait and see how things go from here. At least I get a picture when I play my games now though. And the 360 downtime at least gave me the chance to play some more Okami on my Wii. Poor Wii, it only really comes out for MarioKart at parties....
Back from the dead!
Hi all. It's been a while! Unfortunately I am very busy with my PhD at the moment, and while I check up on GS regularly, I don't generally have enough time to blog between sleeping, eating, working and the slim social life i have in between.
So, what is new? Well I have got GH: World Tour now, which is making for some fun (and hilarious) parties. I also picked up Fable 2, Okami, Fallout 3 and Call of Duty over the Christmas period, as well as Infinite Undiscovery and Bioshock second hand. I'm now not buying anymore games until I have completed some of my backlog - though I was very tempted by Skate 2. However, this oath will be broken when Resident Evil 2 arrives - which I will most definitely be purchasing.
In other areas, I have finally managed to obtain the Neon Genesis Evangelion Platinum Colleciton (after 5 years of fruitless attempts at getting the entire series), all of Cowboy Bebop, all of Noein, and all the Death Note DVDs currently available in the UK. All these series I am thoroughly enjoying. I've also managed to get upto volume 13 of the Trigun manga, so I've nearly finished the series, and will be looking for something else in this line too! I'm thinking the Welcome to the NHK manga as it is pretty short at 8 volumes to tide me over.
Finally I have succumbed to nerdyness once more as a friend of mine in the department where I work loves to play boardgames. Therefore, I have picked up Munchkin and Hunter: Deadly Prey, whilst I regularly go round to his to play the Battlestar Galactica boardgame with a bunch of friends. This has also led to me digging out Magic: the Gathering cards and being tempted into playing D&D again...
As i said, much nerdyness!
That's all for now - hopefully I will come up with something more poignant next time.
PSP RPGs
Another quick post! Does anyone know any good RPGs for the PSP outside of the Final Fantasy games (which I have). My PSP is being neglected after playing Crisis Core and I feel I should give it some love. As I mostly play RPGs on my handhelds I was wondering what the good ones were - the only one I've seen that really interests me so far is Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth. Any others??
Thanks in advance guys!
Okami...
It's been a while - I've been very busy working through my research. Reading a lot about Social Theory, but you guys don't need to know about all that jazz.
I have added another game to my ever changing collection of games following my purchases of World at War (which I've finished, but am yet to play online-see below) and Fallout 3. This time my money was well spent on Okami for the Wii. I managed to pick it up from the Christmas bargain bin at my local Gamestation for about £20. Which isn't too bad. I've only managed to play through the opening so far, but from what I've seen I know that I am going to love this game. It reminds me a lot of Wind Waker on the Cube (another game I loved and still have!) - similar graphical style, speech and humor. I can't wait to get back home today and lay into it some more.
In other news, my wireless router is still broken, and the replacement I ordered has seemingly vanished into the ether. I know that it is somewhere round my town, as the post tried to deliver it on monday when I was out. I requested a re-delivery for wednesday, but it never arrived. And calling my local depot had been fruitless - so far I have either not been able to get through, been told "it's probably around the depot somewhere", been promised a call when they find it (never happened) and finally told it's probably out on delivery "right now" and yet it still hasn't materialized. Obviously I am now slightly delirious with anger, and will be going to the depot in person on monday morning, possibly to vent said anger.
If it has gone missing, I'll probably end up having to tell Amazon and getting a replacement sent out - another weeks wait. So no online gaming for the foreseeable future. Bummer...
Other than that, all is well
And finally, I hope that all my American buddies had an enjoyable Thanksgiving!
Second Life, Second Wife...
Hi all. I've been in bed with the flu all this week, which has been a major pain because, not only have I done no University work all week havingspent pretty much all my time in bed, I've also not be able to play Gears of War 2. Although the few times I've felt well enough to pick up a controller have allowed me to get to around the second chapter of Act 5. So I'm pretty much done now ![]()
As for deciding whats next I have a tough choice. I could go back to playing Oblivion, where my character is now a relative bad-a**, with some pretty sweet items (including the Sword of Umbra). I've completed the Mages Guild and Arena quests, am about half way through the Main quest and am currently ploughing through the Shivering Isles (or was until Gears came out). So plenty still to do, and I'd rather nnot leave the game floundering while I continue to play through newer games.
Alternatively, I do just what I don't want to do
. I've been wanting to pick up World at War for a while now, most notibly because one of my best school friends has been working on level design for the PS2 version of the game - but that also allowed them to test the 360 and PS3 versions too, so I had some sweet intel during the design stages. Sorry I couldn't share at the time, but his job would have been on the line... The game will be relatively short, but will also provide some awesome multiplayer. Plus I love the COD series and WWII shooter in general. Most people are bored of them now. I am not.
However, while I do want to play World at War, money is tight, especially now I'm living by myself again, and the credit crunch has hit gas prices, food and everything else... Well, that and I just bought Fallout 3
. So the choice is: do I finish Gears 2 and go back to an expansive fantasy RPG setting, or do I finish Gears 2 and start an entirely newexpansive futuristic RPG setting? Choices, choices...
Oh, and finally something humerous that most definitely links into that title.
