Left 4 Dead 2.

Four new heroes, same old zombies. Left 4 Dead 2 was the game I've looking forward to all year. After playing for several days I can say it has its strong and weak points.

For one thing there are more campaigns, but the problem is that some of them are short. New weapons including melee are fun to use. Especially the chainsaw. Controls, graphics, and sound are all great too.

But honestly, this one is much more frustrating than the first one. I can play through the campaigns in the first Left 4 Dead without dying. In Left 4 Dead 2 you can easily die at least four or five times. While this doesn't sound like a big deal, it's just that when you die you have to start again at the last checkpoint, and you have to cover all that ground all over again.

But still, this is a great game. If you liked the first Left 4 Dead then you'll definitely like the sequel.

Veterans Day.

Today we thank all those who have fought for our country, and to those who have fought and paid with the ultimate sacrifice. My Grandfather was in the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II, and thankfully he made it back home. I had a Great-Grandfather who fought in World War I too, but since it was such a long time ago, I don't know much else about him.

A big thanks to all those who are serving on the battlefront now. We should also remember those who were killed at Fort Hood a few days ago. For none of them deserved to die like that.

Movie Recommendation #27.

Since it's Halloween, here's a cult classic horror film you should check out.

Movie: The Evil Dead, 1981.

Plot: Five friends are making their way through the Tennessee wilderness to a small cabin they've rented for a vacation from college. Once at the cabin, the group settles in and are looking forward to having a great time together. Upon exploring the cabin, the group discovers a strange book, and a tape recorder from the previous occupant. Turning on the tape recorder, the previous occupant was apparently an archaeologist that had discovered an ancient relic called "The Book of the Dead." Out of curiosity and fascination, the group continues to listen to the recording. The archaeologist begins to recite a passage from the book, which awakens the demons and evil within mankind's domain. The evil spirits begin to slowly pick off members of the group one by one through demonic possession. Those who are still human are now in a fight for their lives, and must find a way to escape the cabin before it's too late.

One of the most creative, shocking and suspenseful films ever conceived, The Evil Dead launched the careers of director Sam Raimi, and actor Bruce Campbell. The Evil Dead was later followed by two sequels (Evil Dead II, 1987 and Army of Darkness, 1993) that also received critical acclaim. Whether you like horror movies or not, The Evil Dead is terrifying adventure with lots of action and gore to keep you asking for more.

Saw VI.

These past few weeks have been really stressful for me, school has been a pain because most of my classes suck so that's why I'm never around much. I won't be here this weekend, me and my Dad are going to see a Cleveland Browns game. Since it's the Browns I'm not expecting anything, but it should be fun to be there at the stadium.

With that out of the way, I'll give you my thoughts on the latest chapter of the Saw franchise.

To be honest I wasn't expecting much, but I will say it's a little better than Saw IV and V. The overall scenario was kind of interesting and suspenseful. If there's one thing I admire about the Saw films is that they're all able to connect to each other and keep the plot from going off track in different directions which is something that rarely happens in a horror franchise. The downside was that I really didn't understand the ending, but I guess I could always rent it when it's released on DVD. But overall, it was an alright movie.

With the announcement of Saw VI, I really thought it was going to be the last. Kind of like two trilogies, each with their own characters and settings and they all come full circle in the last chapter. Well, I was wrong. Saw VII is set to be released for Halloween 2010.

Aliens, Zombies and Freddy Oh My!

It's been awhile, but I guess that's what happens when you have school to bother you all the time. I've been struggling with a few of my classes lately, so I might not be around as much. But I hope to get things back on track real soon. With that out of the way, here's other stuff that's been going on.

I got Halo 3: ODST about a week ago. I will say that it's a very fun game with great controls, graphics, and music. The only downside to the game is that it's way too short. I feel like I should have waited for the price to drop, because honestly this game should have been priced at $30.

Halo 3: ODST Boxshot

I also saw the movie Zombieland a few days ago, and it was actually a really good movie. Woody Harrelson and Bill Murray were great, and there was plenty of action and humor in every part of the movie. If you liked Shaun of the Dead, then you'll definitely like this.

Theatrical release poster

Last, a new trailer for the upcoming re-make of A Nightmare on Elm Street was released a few days ago. I'm actually looking forward to seeing this. For one thing A Nightmare on Elm Street is my favorite slasher film, and the re-make is going to include many of the iconic scenes from the original Elm Street which at least shows they're being faithful to the original. Plus it will be great to see Freddy again, he's honestly the greatest villain I have ever seen.

School is In.

Oh great it's that time of the year again. Just when things are going fine, you find yourself back at that dump called high school. I don't know if I'll be able to hang around here like usual, then again I am a very lazy person when it comes to school work. So it might work out.

Not much else going on. There is that new Batman game I hear is good that just came out. I might check it out and see if it's any good.

Wolfenstein.

A World War II game unlike any you'll ever play. Wolfenstein explores the secret Nazi science experiments and involvement in the occult. The subject itself has always fascinated me. The idea of the Nazis, harnessing a power beyond reason and logic would have been a terrifying experience for all of mankind. Good thing it never happened.

So far Wolfenstein has been a great experience, the visuals are beautiful, and the controls are good too. Out of all the firearms you collect, my favorite would have to be the Particle Cannon, a secret Nazi weapon. Also using the occult powers to slow things down, and shield yourself from bullets are very cool, and a nice game play touch.

The only thing that's bad is the navigation, and this takes place entirely in the town stage where you go to the next levels. Trying to find certain locations can take awhile since there's so much ground to cover, that and constant Nazi patrols. It's also annoying that you have to check in with two separate resistance groups in the town stage. It just makes things take longer.

Despite some minor flaws, Wolfenstein is still a great game. If science fiction and history are some of your favorite subjects, then this is the game for you.

Movie Recommendation #26.

Movie: WALL-E, 2008.

Plot: Hundreds of years into the future, the Earth is dry desolate planet without a trace of human or plant life. The pollution of toxins and garbage have forced the people of Earth to flee the planet, leaving working robots to clean up the massive mess. After many years, nearly all the clean up robots have ceased to function. Expect one. A single robot who roams the planet and continues the job, named WALL-E. As WALL-E works he gathers many items from Earth's past and even makes himself a home to come to at the end of each day. But as time goes by, the little robot begins to fell lonely and isolated. Yearning for a friend to by his side. One day, a ship is lands on Earth with a probe named EVE whose job is to search the barren planet for any form of organic life so that the people can return to Earth. WALL-E soon meets EVE and begins to form a bond of friendship with her that he has wished for all these years. But when a small plant is discovered, EVE is forced to return to report on her finding. Before the ship carrying EVE can depart, a determined WALL-E hitches a ride, and travels throughout the solar system to a large space craft where the rest of the human race resides. After making a landing, EVE discovers that a rogue machine on board has stolen the plant. Without the proof, the human race can not return to Earth, and the rogue machine is determined to keep it that way. As WALL-E and EVE begin their search, the rogue machine trails their every move with the entire ship's security at his control aiming to stop them.

To be honest when it comes to Pixar films, I usually ignore them and think to myself "That's just for little kids." But after all the things I heard about WALL-E, I figured why not. After watching this, it's simply a fantastic film. The animation and is amazing, the best I've ever seen in an animated film, it's full of adventure, thrills, and plenty of humor. In the end, it doesn't matter how old you are. WALL-E shows you the true meanings of friendship, compassion, and love.

The Conduit.

I've been looking forward to this one for awhile now, all I can say is that I'm having some mixed feelings on The Conduit. I'll just run down the positives and negatives.

For on thing the graphics are great for a Wii game, and the controls work well despite the Wii controller not having many buttons.

The main thing that drags The Conduit down is the level design. It's so poor, the environments you explore aren't challenging and don't have many hazards, (expect for the enemies) and the puzzles you're faced with solving are very easy. The last thing wrong with The Conduit is that sometimes the camera can be a problem; trying to turn around makes the camera get stuck pointing straight up for a few seconds for some reason.

Overall this is no Half-Life or Halo, but I will say it's much better than other first-person shooters I've played on the Wii. But still, I'm disappointed with the overall game design and difficulty.

I'm not sure about this one, maybe I should keep playing it to get a better opinion on it. Until then if you're interested in checking out The Conduit, then you may want to rent this first.

The House of the Dead: Overkill.

The zombie genre has recently become one of my favorites. I didn't know what to expect when I first bought The House of the Dead: Overkill, other than it's a rail gun shooter.

But I'm very impressed, the visuals look great, and the controls work very well. This has also got to be the funniest game I have ever played. It reminds me of the movie Grindhouse, and one of the main characters Detective Washington sounds just like Samuel L. Jackson.

The only things I dislike is that the story mode is really short, and the weapon purchasing and upgrading system sucks. But beside that, it's a really fun game.

I'm thinking about getting the Resident Evil games next. I'm just going to start off with the first Resident Evil that's available on GameCube, and possibly Resident Evil 0 some time later.

The House of the Dead: Overkill Boxshot

UPDATE: I'm thinking of returning this. Don't get me wrong, this is a fun game. But it's just after you beat it, then that's it. The replay value is really low, plus it's way too easy. I recommend renting this first before buying it.

Birthday a Few Days Ago.

Like the title says it was my birthday a few days ago. I would've done something a the actual day; but with E3 going on I was more occupied with all the news and announcements going on. So I'll just be brief here.

Mario Kart 64 Boxshot

I have no idea why I never got this when I was kid. Well, better late than never. I can say even after all these years Mario Kart 64 is a blast to play, especially with friends. It's basic and simple, and that's what makes it so much fun.

Call of Duty 2 Boxshot

This is a great game, probably the best Call of Duty ever made. The single player campaign is long and fun, you can play as the Americans in Normandy, the British in North Africa, and the Russians in Stalingrad. I can see why this was a launch game for the 360.

MadWorld Boxshot

You thought Gears of War was violent? You haven't seen anything yet. MadWorld is an insane game with limitless fun and enjoyment. I love the art design using only the colors black and white, it's very surreal. The motion controls work well and are very responsive, and its sick twisted humor has left me laughing for days.

I guess it was a pretty good birthday.

Nintendo in the Spotlight.

E3 is sure off to a good start. Nintendo has announced a Super Mario Galaxy 2, and New Super Mario Bros. is coming to the Wii. There was also the announcement of a No More Heroes sequel, that could be good.

It's going to be quite a year for video games.

Wii games like The Conduit, Dead Space: Extraction, and Super Mario Galaxy 2 are looking great, looking forward to getting them

The Start of E3.

Wow it's been a long time. Not much has been going lately, which is the main reason why I didn't hang around GameSpot that much.

I'm glad that E3 has started. The only news that has caught my interest is Valve planning the release of a Left 4 Dead 2. I was hoping they would announce something new with Half-Life 2: Episode Three, but I guess not.

BioShock 2, Halo 3: ODST, and Modern Warfare 2 are the main 360 games I'm looking forward to this year. Especially BioShock 2, I can't wait to see how the story progresses after the events of the first one.

Not much else, Nintendo's press conference doesn't start until tomorrow. That should be interesting.

Friday the 13th.

Jason Voorhees is back. After nearly six years, the hockey masked killer from Crystal Lake finally returns to the big screen for another bloody massacre. Just so we're clear, this is not a re-make of the original 1980 film. From I've read it's been described as a "re-boot" for the series. Combining the elements of the first four films into one.

Overall, the movie was alright. There was plenty of suspense, and terror for everyone to enjoy. Not the best Friday the 13th, but definitely not one of the worst. If you love slasher films, than this one is for you.

Super Bowl XLIII.

The big game is finally here. It's the Arizona Cardinals against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Just saying that still feels weird, Arizona was honestly the last team I'd ever expect to see in the Super Bowl. Pittsburgh didn't surprise me, they're always a good team.

Personally I'm rooting for Arizona, it's about time a team like them had their chance in the spot light.

Well, best of luck to both teams.

My Bloody Valentine.

It sure has been awhile, I was really busy with exams which is why I didn't have a lot of free time. I'm glad the exams are finally over.

On Friday I saw the film My Bloody Valentine, since I'm a big fan of horror movies. Surprisingly, it's a re-make, yeah just when I thought the movie industry finally came up with something new for once that moment instantly passed.

The original My Bloody Valentine was released in 1981, it never gained enough momentum and popularity to become a franchise like Friday the 13th or Halloween. Now I watched the original, and it's actually a good movie. It really makes me wonder why it didn't become popular.

Now comes the new and more hardcore version. The re-make is without a doubt the goriest movie I have ever seen, and the 3D effects in the movie were actually cool and very convincing. Overall, it was a decent re-make, but what bothered me most was that they changed the ending. I don't know why they did that. Besides that, if like horror movies, you'll definitely like My Bloody Valentine.

Last Day of 2008.

Thoughts on Christmas.

My Christmas was pretty good this year. I got to see all my relatives in Cleveland and a bunch of gifts definitely worth waiting for.

I got Call of Duty: World at War, Fallout 3, and Left 4 Dead. I also got a DVD of Burn After Reading.

Overall, it was fun to be with everyone, and that's really all that matters.

I hope everyone else had a great Christmas.

Movie Recommendation #25.

Movie: Fargo, 1996.

Plot: Taking place in the year 1987, an executive car sales manager in Minneapolis named Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy) finds himself in severe debt. Desperate for money, Jerry meets up with two men named Carl Showalter, (Steve Buscemi) and Gaear Grimsrud (Peter Stormare) to propose a deal. The plan: Carl and Gaear are to kidnap Jerry's wife, and hold her hostage with the demand of $80,000 as their ransom. The ransom will be paid by Jerry's wealthy father in-law. Carl, Gaear, and Jerry then split the money $40,000 a piece, and Jerry's wife is returned safe and sound. After successfully kidnapping Jerry's wife, Carl and Gaear start driving toward a cabin in the forest where they'll keep Jerry's wife. But when a police officer pulls them over, and a car with two bystanders witnesses the event, blood is spilled and the plan takes a turn for the worse. As the pile of bodies continue to grow at a fast rate, a local chief of police officer named Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) takes the case and begins to begin her hunt for the culprits of this crime.

Nominated for 7 Academy Awards, Fargo walked away with 2 for Best Actress, (Frances McDormand) and Best Original Screenplay. In 1998, Fargo was ranked #84 on the AFI's 100 Greatest Movies, but was later removed in the updated 2007 list.

A smart, suspenseful, and dark humored thriller, Fargo remains as one of the best crime films that shows even the most simple situation can go wrong in every way possible.

Fargo, 1996

Happy Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving today, not one of my favorite holidays but it was still a fun day for me.

I always head up to Cleveland during the holidays, so when Christmas comes around I'll be heading back up there again.

My Thanksgiving was alright, watched the football games, ate lots of food, relaxed for the rest of the day, and finally headed home.

I hope everyone else had a great Thanksgiving.
