This is one of those rare albums that comes out and you are dumb-founded as to why nobody has swooped this guy sooner. It is hard to pinpoint the exact type of music, which is what makes it so appealing. Obviously the hip-hop is most prominant, but there are so many other aspects that make this album worth noting. It has all live instrumentation, which automatically gives it that Roots type of vibe. The big difference is that the topics are more universal and radio-friendly (i.e. girl issues, growing up in the city, friendships, etc.). There is no doubt that this new artist is doing his thing and has defined a sound all to himself. So record labels, pay attention before someone swoops him up.
