This was my first ever multi-track recording. Did it all with a Roland Vs-880, an old Charvel, a borrowed purple bass named Barney, and a Yamaha QY-10 sequencer. Bare bones all the way. Nothing fancy but it is still a fun song to play live.
My buddy Dai is an Art Major over at Parkland College and he is always working on projects for his classes. I composed this little piece for one of his 3-D pictures called "Castle".
This was my first ever attempt at singing. Wasn't easy. My buddy Jeff Nardoni sang back-ups, another buddy Jason Landis played the drums, and my son Tyler did some sound designing. My gorgeous wife Julia whispered in the bridge sections.
This was my first 7-String song recorded way back in the 20th century. During the first couple hours of playing on a 7-string guitar I had a little bit of a learning curve. Then that was it. The rest is, as they say......"history".
Just fast and furious. Lots of pedals used on this one. Ring-mods, a whammy pedal, wah-wah's, an Eletrix Filter Factory, etc.. Weird but heavy. Good for working out to (or making out).
Another 7-string instrumental. I named it after a tough section in the song that I call the "Maneuver #5" where I simultaneously play an ascending part and a descending part on the guitar with one hand. Tricky.
This one was circa 1996-7 (I think) and I played my Mauve colored 1988 Charvel Model 3A guitar (modded with a Seymour Duncan Distortion p.u. in the bridge position and a reverse headstock 22-fret neck yanked from an '88-'89 Charvel Predator). Cool tones.
Back before I owned a digital multitrack recorder, I spent a small fortune on a Korg 01/WFD synth workstation that was worth than both of my cars combined. It took months to complete these scores. Well worth it though.
the floppy disk for the first two movements for "Of Kings and Prophets" crashed right as I completed them. I lost everything in the process. Thus I had to start over from scratch, all from memory. Ughh....
Once I reprogrammed the first two movements, I composed the third. I hope to do more orchestral stuff in the future, and maybe even score some films or video games, but for now I play mostly guitar.
This is the soundtrack from a short film that my sons and I put together back in November 2006 called "The Wood". This was probably the funnest recording for me to make in 2006. Syncing stuff to video was a blast.
One of my all-time favorite guitar tones is when I combine a ring-mod with a heavy tone. This song just drips with what I call my "Rude Tone" and then at the end I cut loose and shred free-style. I actually wrote and recorded this song in just over a week
OK.....this one falls into the broad category of "experimental heaviness". It is all 100% guitars except for the drums. Somehow I never got around to putting any bass parts in this song but it sounded so full as it is that I thought I'd better leave "well
Another guitar-based instrumental tune. It was all played on an Ibanez Universe 7-String I used to own. I never liked the pick-ups on that guitar but this song has some of my favorite tones. Heavy yet happy. Enjoy!
This is a collab I did a while back with a good friend of mine, Christina Ladd. She wrote the lyrics and had the basic chord arrangement figured out and then I worked out the instrumentation and produced/engineered it.
