Click through for more info and some free rock mp3's! During the late 80's and early 90's [mp3com-artist]Pixies [/mp3com-artist]changed the face of American rock music, emerging from the ashes of 80's glam rock to give birth to genres like grunge and alt-rock. It's difficult to overstate their importance in terms of influence. To wit - [mp3com-artist]Kurt Cobain [/mp3com-artist] once said that "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was just his attempt to write a [mp3com-artist]Pixies [/mp3com-artist] song. Recently the band made music nerds all over the world very, very excited by announcing that they would reunite to play concerts. If you haven't seen them yet, their set at Orlando Calling is a must-see. [caption id="attachment_79491" align="alignnone" width="385" caption="(Photo by Alberto E. In addition to running Third Man, his own independent record label, he also plays in two bands - [mp3com-artist]The Dead Weather[/mp3com-artist] and [mp3com-artist]The Raconteurs[/mp3com-artist], the latter of which is returning to the stage after a hiatus to play at Orlando Calling.  White formed the band in 2005 with his friend Brandon Benson in 2005, soon adding Patrick Lawrence and Jack  Keeler, who are also in [mp3com-artist]The Greenhorns[/mp3com-artist]. The group has been carrying the alt-rock torch into the new millennium, releasing two critically and commercially albums over the past five years. Jack White was ranked #17 in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of all time. The guy is a living legend. For some serious shredding, be sure to catch their show. [caption id="attachment_79497" align="alignnone" width="385" caption="The Avett Brothers"][/caption] Mixing rock, country and bluegrass, [mp3com-artist]The Avett Brothers[/mp3com-artist] cover things on the mellower end of the alt-rock spectrum.  They're like the musical equivalent of a deep breath of clean, mountain air.  Be sure to check out their song "Die Die Die" in the playlist below!
