Mercury Records, the home such artists as [lastfm]U2[/lastfm], [lastfm]Arcade Fire[/lastfm], and [lastfm]Elton John[/lastfm], will no longer release singles in CD or vinyl form. Beginning immediately, singles will now only be offered as digital downloads. (The only exceptions will be very special events, such as charity releases.) Physical sales of such releases have recently made up around only 1% of the singles chart. Mercury will still participate in Record Store Day, however, on April 16, with limited EPs specifically for the event. [lastfm]Nirvana[/lastfm] will release a compilation of rare singles, [lastfm]Bruce Springsteen[/lastfm] will also have limited edition pressings.
