It’s been an exciting year for 16-year-old singer/songwriter Lorde, who not only dropped her debut LP entitled Pure Heroine a few weeks ago, but also released probably one of 2013’s biggest singles, “Royals”. The track is all about being a teenager in today’s modern world, being baffled by the luxurious material objects that many artists in pop boast about in their lyrics, and listeners are relating to her message.

Despite major albums coming out in the past few days, like Justin Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience 2 Of 2 and Miley Cyrus’ Bangerz, Lorde’s “Royals” is still sitting atop the Billboard Hot 100 chart stronger than ever. This is her second week on the top of the chart, replacing Katy Perry’s empowering anthem “Roar” for the no.1 spot.

Music fans are curious as to how long Lorde can reign the Billboard Hot 100 with her infectious hit, especially with viral song “The Fox” by Ylvis and Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” coming up fast behind her. Perhaps Lorde’s “Team” will be just as successful as her first single.
