Lou Reed, one of rock's most prolific songwriters, has passed away at the age of 71. In spring of this year, the former Velvet Underground member went through a liver transplant and was in good health, but unfortunately passed of liver disease on Sunday, October 27th. The music world is coming together to mourn the loss of the legend, from the likes of David Bowie to fellow VU member John Cale expressing their grief. Most known for his feel-good single "Walk On The Wild Side", as well as his work with The Velvet Underground like "I'm Waiting For The Man", Reed is the reason why many artists first got into rock n' roll in the first place. The evolution of punk and new wave that expanded from rock comes from Reed's contribution to music, where his devil-may-care attitude as well as his iconic look — shades, unkempt hair and a leather jacket — paved the way for acts like Iggy Pop, The Ramones, and even grunge acts like Pearl Jam. Even after his passing, there's no doubt that Lou Reed's music will continue to inspire artist after artist as time goes on.
