You’d think by now [lastfm]Willie Nelson[/lastfm] wouldn’t need to remind fans of his roots by naming his album Country Music, but that’s what he’s done on his latest release (his first for Rounder Records). It’s a collection of old-school honky-tonk classics from the likes of [lastfm]Ernest Tubb[/lastfm], [lastfm]Merle Travis[/lastfm], and [lastfm]The Delmore Brothers[/lastfm] (most of which Nelson probably had memorized decades ago). Producer [lastfm]T-Bone Burnett[/lastfm] helped develop the sparse arrangements, and the result is easygoing and beautiful–pure, unadulterated Country Music.
