Though they work out of a barn full of records and tapes and synths and samplers in rural upstate New York, 45-minutes away from their nearest city (and a small one at that), the duo of Josh Carter and Sarah Barthel are anything but country. In fact, working under the name Phantogram, Carter and Barthel obliterate any mythical line that separates country living with urban life on their new single, "As Far As I Can See." Built over a funky Philly soul groove, Phantogram layer a woozy mix of Barthel's breathy disco vocals amidst splashes of synthesizers and hip-hop keyboard blasts. Far from the country, their soundtrack to what they call "eyelid movies" stares straight down a wavy center line of a midtown Manhattan street, splashes flashes of neon on spike heels and whirls the listener into a spin of disco 'round ecstasy. Intoxicating. [mp3com-download url="" artist="Phantogram" song="As Far As I Can See" email="optional" year="2011" label="Barsuk"/]
