[mp3com-artist]Two Step Slumber[/mp3com-artist] are banjoist Jake Russell and multi-instrumentalist Brent Greiwe, a Portland, Oregan duo we introduced back in September with their song, "Hush Tones." Today, we encore their "dark blend of folk rock and Americana." What was true about "Hush Tones" is true about today's cut, "Dark Waltz": it's the musical equivalent of Deliverance remade by Jim Jarmusch (or maybe David Lynch), a musical march through misty bogs, ripe with moss hanging from the trees and spirits whistling through the wood. There's a mournful deep country intensity to their songs, owing to their influences ([mp3com-artist]16 Horsepower[/mp3com-artist], [mp3com-artist]Jesse Sykes[/mp3com-artist]) and cinematic in their delivery.
